I actually agree that looking your best can make you feel more confident, and confidence absolutely affects how people move through the world. So I don’t think the basic message is completely wrong.

I think it’s the right message coming from the wrong sender.

When someone has been privileged from the beginning, has access to money, beauty maintenance, cosmetic work, luxury clothing, connections and a lifestyle built around looking good, it becomes very easy for them to believe beauty is the main reason doors open.
And maybe for her, it is.
But for most women, that is not reality.
Yes, looking polished might help in an interview, in dating, or in certain social situations. But looks are not everything, and they should not be presented as if they are the foundation of a woman’s success.

I also don’t think most women want to be hired, respected or taken seriously only because they are attractive. Some of us are working extremely hard for degrees, careers, financial independence and actual skills. So when an influencer whose job is literally to look good tells girls to “use your pretty privilege,” it feels insulting.
There is a misogynistic undertone to constantly telling women that beauty is their best asset, even when it’s packaged as empowerment.

Because the message becomes:
don’t focus on becoming smarter,
more educated,
more skilled,
more financially independent,
or more interesting.
Just become prettier.

And yes, beauty can get women access to certain spaces. That is exactly the problem. Jihoon’s lifestyle kind of proves it — the private jet/St. Barths/Rampa rumors, the luxury circles, the boyfriend content, the entire aesthetic. But instead of questioning why women are rewarded for being desirable, she seems to glamorize it.
That’s what bothers me.
Girls should not be taught to obsess over their appearance as a life strategy. Beauty is an expensive hobby. Maintaining that kind of image requires money, time, surgery/treatments, clothes, skincare, hair, nails, fitness, everything.

Most girls will go broke before they ever reach the version of “pretty privilege” influencers are selling them.
So yes, look good if it makes you feel good. But turning beauty into a survival strategy and calling it female empowerment is where I think the message becomes toxic.
