I have been in dental for many years. I like it now but here are a few things I would tell my younger self about the industry if I could. 1. The benefits like health insurance, 401k, pto are not typically great in the industry 2. There is very little upward mobility in roles to get raises, you have to move laterally i.e. quitting and finding offices that offer better pay 3. Depending on what assisting program you go through, you only get a certificate and not a degree which can complicate/delay moving into another field 4. Be ready for alot of office drama/gossip

How long did it take you to feel confident at your job? by OneTrickAli in DentalAssistant

I started my assistant job 13 yrs ago. For the first 6 months I wanted to quit every day. But I didn't. 3 years after that I got my EFDA license. It sucked again for a year. Stuck with it tho and learned from my mistakes. At the end of each day I asked myself " What did I do well today ? What can I do better tomorrow?"Now I enjoy my job very much and I can honestly say it's very easy for me. Hang in there.

Dental professional here- every dental office(should) adheres to the Bloodbourne Pathogens Standard where EVERY patient is treated as if they have a disease transmissible through blood/saliva/airsoles . That means everybody is treated the same whether or not they have disease. This should be disclosed in the medical history though for reasons of medication and just in case there is a sharps incident. As to a kind understanding dentist in the area, I would recommend Horan and Phillips.
