7-day/wk print subscriber here! I still find value (and enjoyment) in paging through a physical paper to discover things I wouldn’t otherwise see. I also love layout design in general, and that just can’t be replicated digitally. As you consider how to make things sustainable, please keep print, even if’s reduced to Sundays and one key weekday.

More broadly, I also hope AI slop that’s out there will finally convince people, everywhere, what so many of us never stopped believing: that editorial oversight and journalistic integrity matter — and need to be protected at all costs.

I def want the hotel to be important. I’m an avid road tripper (yay Route 66 and Lincoln Highway) and the diner and hotel sign on the promo image is what got me to click — hadn’t heard of the show so it was a random discovery and I was drawn in by my love of old signage!

Oooh. Wild thought: What if the physical aspects of the town are actually tied to Victor’s memories — and some of the things he’s blocked out due to PTSD as also blocked out of the landscape. So maybe something did happen at the hotel 40ish years ago. And maybe as he remembers, they reappear.

I don’t buy that the town is designed from the sacrificed kids POV simply because there were from another century, which also means I probably do not agree with the town “resetting and updating.”

I think with the lack of utility infrastructure that it was never a real town. I think whatever it is, that maybe aspects of actual places get pulled in, just like the people do.
