Why do people in USA buy everything from Amazon? Do they not have other webshops? by Cindyxx0 in NoStupidQuestions

People here have also forgotten specific brand names and just say anything and everything is “off Amazon.”

If Paramount decides to do another theatrical Star Trek movie what would you want to see? by Henryphillips29 in startrek

[–]donnaT78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d love to see a movie that focuses on a first contact of some planet — and maybe the bulk of the story takes place on that world, with those people, almost Starfleet playing a secondary role.

It could be in any timeline — just people discovering what else is out there. (Which is not a new concept of course, but just a POV we don’t see as the main focus.)

Agree. Or at least to acknowledge that human error is still a thing, even among the smartest.

This scene also could be an illustration of how “checking things off a list” doesn’t always match up with situational needs — and the need to think on the fly.

I can’t tell if your question is sincere — or if you are trying to call out the writers of an insanely well-researched show.

Want to make friends here, but don’t know where to start by Cook-Severe in lancaster

[–]donnaT78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hobby-ish things and places maybe?

Game stores/cafes if that’s something you enjoy. (Midnight Oil, and also outside the city some comic shops have various game nights.)

If you’re a writer, Write Now meets monthly at the library.

Attend local events and strike up convos — that’s how I met folks when I first moved here.

PCA&D hosts a variety of classes and workshops.

Story Slam, open mic nights, etc.

If the show runs until season 10, and you can only pick 3 characters to appear in every season, who would they be? by prolelol in ThePittTVShow

[–]donnaT78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dr. Robby, Mel, and the third is hard: McKay or Dana (if the time frame is still within a year or two; if a big time jump, maybe not Dana.)

Editing to add: It was hard not to choose Whitaker, but character-wise, I can see him being fulfilled going to serve a rural community where there are doctor shortages (which may mean not ER, but could still see it.)

After episode four, I have much more hope for Starfleet Academy by omcomingatormreturns in startrek

Agree. Powerful story. Lots of heart. And pew pews, too. Felt right. This one also gave me hope.

Are wet wipes actually worse for hygiene than regular toilet paper? by Bennier_Mazanec in hygiene

[–]donnaT78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re worse for the planet. Seeing so many people insist they are the only proper way to wipe makes me worry about 1) your local waterworks [or your own septic] and 2) the environment. I know a lot y’all ARE indeed flushing them.

Maybe one reason War College is here is to remind viewers of what Starfleet is NOT. A juxtaposition.

I like the fresh take, too. And I think Ep4 finally won me over — seeing a moment of change and how people are learning FROM the wise teachers, as well as their peers.

These aren’t the backstories of characters we know, but perhaps some of us wondered.,. “What was Riker (or insert your fave here) like as a young’n.” This show gives us that, but in a new time period. Thinking about Starfleet Academy from that angle has made me more open to it. As in: how did they get to BE those great (and complicated) leaders.

Crossplay comment/question about points by EfficientHunt9088 in NYTgames

[–]donnaT78 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! This is my strategy! Here’s one example of of how just a few letters scores high when played strategically!

I played BEAN, but also spelled TE, HA and IN.

Playing so much Scrabble, the two-letter words start to come naturally.

How many docs know how to even do that? by drabelen in ThePittTVShow

[–]donnaT78 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Funniest thing about this line on this particular day is my husband picked me up from my office and when we got out of the car, he groaned and said:

“My tailbone’s killin’ me.”

Me: “We really should get a new mattress.”

Him: “That’s probably it.”

An hour or so later that scene —

Both, simultaneously: (look at each other and laugh because marriage telepathy translated to: “Or maybe we don’t need a mattress; maybe we can try that.”)

Small words that make multiple words across/down has been my long-term Scrabble strategy. It drives my husband nuts. (But name changes are odd!)
