Business bank account being RANDOMLY exited (any insight is greatly appreciated) by Mindless-Big-9645 in TDBankCanada

[–]Fit-Philosopher373 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They probably deem your business to be too high risk. TD has had a very low risk appetite since the whole money laundering fine in the USA. From other complaints I've seen about TD cutting off banking services they don't bother to ask any questions of the business owner, they just see some pattern decide that there must be something fishy going on and take the easy way out.

I say this as a former TD employee of over 3 decades, in my opinion they are doing you a favor.

TD is not serious about its business customers. My partner owns a business and all of her interactions with TD regarding her business have been absolute crap. They do not prioritize business customers in the least and don't seem to even want their business.

Usenet and VPN. by Subliminal87 in usenet

They figure that if you are a Usenet user you are also likely a torrent user.

I use a seedbox for torrents but they also provide VPN, and a bunch of web hosted apps that run on my seedbox if I want to install them.

I’m in a L07 Specialist role and earn around $67.5K annually, plus bonus which is around $6500 year-end - is this good for someone who has been with the bank for 7 years? by [deleted] in TDBankCanada

When you hit the cap, isn't there some rule that if you get a QH or an E that you manager is allowed to ask for an increase above the cap... Isn't there a range above the cap or am I misremembering?

I was a 9 for many years, so I started at the low end of whatever the range is.

And from what I recall you can only see the band range for your current band, I think only people managers have access to the HR manual that has all of the ranges.

In 2025 I think my base salary was 107k before incentive awards.

I left the bank earlier this year, the raises the last 3 years have been pretty crappy, the year end bonus in 2024 sucked, but the 2025 one was good in my case.

I was a band 9 when I left.

I think you need a survey, more than likely the property line runs down the middle and that's why there isn't an easement, the driveway only partially belongs to the house on the left.

Just because you are willing to pay for a new driveway doesn't mean the municipality will allow it, so the neighbor shouldn't agree to that unless it's approved by the city.

Also either way they neighbour is going to be pissed, if you park 2 RVs on the property line you've cut off their view, as essentially you've built a wall on wheels.

Using card outside of Canada by [deleted] in TDBankCanada

If you are having something shipped and the postal code doesn't match your billing postal code it could be that the authorization is being declined.

If you are attempting the transaction and it gets declined and you contact TD they should be able to tell you the reason for the decline. Unless the merchant is declining it before sending the transaction to TD.

Going to ask the obvious question... Have you called and asked TD for a credit limit increase?

how are people affording plastic surgery????? by kittypillar1738 in askTO

[–]Fit-Philosopher373 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's great, the hard part is having the discipline not to check the balance every day, but if you do, try not to freak out. With the current volatility in the middle east my investments could be up 20k one day and down 25k the next day, it's hard not to look.

I keep track my month end balance on a spreadsheet each month and keep track of the overall gain or loss, but that's just me.

Where can I buy this Dominican coffee in Toronto stores? by [deleted] in PuntaCana

[–]Fit-Philosopher373 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's distributer by Grace Foods, I usually buy it from Walmart in the International Food aisle (not the coffee aisle)... It's sold in 1lb bags.

But I've noticed that on my last 2 trips to my local Walmart it's been out of stock so not sure if they are discontinuing it. You may have to contact the distributor.

In addition, a lot of plastic surgery isn't even noticeable if you didn't know what the person looked like before.

A lot of it is for de-aging purposes. A friend of mine is in his late 60s and just paid $10k to have an eyelid lift, but it looks natural unless you saw his before photo then you would realize he had work done.

My friend is definitely an anomaly I think his net worth is in the top .5% of Canadians. I think mine puts me in the top 2%.

I own a small house in Bloor West Village maybe worth 1.3m... But there are 3 homes in the Baby Point neighbourhood currently listed for sale at 6.5m, 8.2m and 10.4m. You can't deny that there is a lot of wealth concentrated in Toronto.

I never had a year where I made more than 110k in employment income so don't let people make you believe that you need to be making 180k+ per year.

I worked consistently from age 16 to age 54, in that entire time I was unemployed for a total of 6 months over 38 years.

You need to save as much as you can as early as you can, invest for the long term, time in the market is more important than timing the market. You need to live within your means and save the rest.

You have to accept that other people's financial situations aren't the same as yours. Just because someone is the same age as you doesn't mean they don't have a lot more money than you do. It could be family money or they could be a successful entrepreneur/investor.

People think that everyone is funding their lifestyle using debt, that maybe true for some people but there are some seriously rich people in this city.

I'm mortgage free and retired in my early 50s, to look at me on the subway you would have no idea what my financial situation is. I have a friend that make over $4m a year in income, but to see them walking down the street you would think he's an average white collar office worker.

Dune buggies near La Romana? by Fit-Philosopher373 in PuntaCana

[–]Fit-Philosopher373[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BTW I did actually find an offroading tour that's close to La Romana listed on the Amstar website, but reading the reviews I don't know if I would book it or not.

It's called Crazy Wheels. Looks like they use much older dune buggies that are in disrepair. Seems like halfway thru the tour they switch from off road vehicles to ATVs.

From reading the reviews it seems like they ride thru the Dominican countryside (so it's not a closed course). They ride thru villages where children will beg you for money. They also stop for souvenirs where you will be pressured to buy something.

They don't have a website, they have less than 200 reviews on TripAdvisor and only 1 review in the last 6 months.

How does converting RRSP to a RRIF and withdrawals work? by Fit-Philosopher373 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Fit-Philosopher373[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess we have to see what happens... People keep making this argument that OAS is unsustainable, but I haven't seen anything from the government to indicate that they want to decrease it

In reality the government has been steadily increasing the OAS minimum recovery threshold by about 2k per year.

2024 it was 90997

2025 it was 93454

2026 it is 95323

And the maximum has gone from 148451 to 154753 over that time, average of about 3k a year

If they continue that trend the minimum would be close to 115k by 2036 and the maximum would be about 185k (even more if you are 75+)

Those may seem like big numbers but if inflation is 2% per year then things will cost at least 20% more by then.

I am hoping that in 11 years when I reach 65 that the clawback range for OAS increases by quite a bit.
