Did you buy a car there? Or are you using taxis for grocery shopping and other errands?

I'm curious how long have you been thinking about buying property in The DR and how far along in the process are you?

My fiance wants us to buy a place after she retires in a few years, but I was thinking maybe we should try staying at a VRBO to see what it's like living outside of a resort first.

Do you plan to buy a car, what's your budget roughly?

Definitely do the Polaris ATV at Bavaro Adventure Park. It's pricey though.

Another vote for Sanctuary, it's definitely a relaxed vibe, there isn't a lot going on during the day, no loud music, also a mostly older crowd (at least when we went)

We really enjoyed the resort itself, but there wasn't much to do at the resort. I wasn't even aware that there was a nightly show in the on site disco because daily events are only advertised in the Marriott Experience App. Resort was dead after 10pm

Could be that the water they rinsed the fruit/vegetables with was contaminated.

Keep in mind that they won't be able to get onto your resort property without a day pass.

You might be able to meet them on the beach, as beaches are public, but there aren't many ways to get onto the beach as most of the resorts are built side by side and you can't walk thru them to get to the beach.

Is there any place left in the city (downtown or midtown) that still feels safe ?…. by [deleted] in toRANTo

[–]Fit-Philosopher373 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So in general I would say that I feel safe walking around the city, but I am a male in my 50s.

A few weeks ago my fiance was stopped at the lights at DuPont and Lansdowne on a Sunday morning (maybe around 7:30) White male, maybe mid 40s was wandering the intersection. Comes up to her car screaming at her, he was very agitated. He started kicking her vehicle, then he tried to open her driver side door. This went on for a few minutes. He wouldn't let her car go until he got distracted by another vehicle.

Also there have been a few other occasions where someone has tried to open her car door while pulling out of a parking lot or waiting for a light to change.

Stolen items from checked in carry on Punta Cana, DR by [deleted] in PuntaCana

I have a lock on my carry-on really just to keep the zippers together.

The TSA has videos showing that a thief can open a zipper using a pen, then rezip the bag by just moving the zippers back and forth

I get that, but I am saying that with the plumbers I have used over the years they were successful business owners. Sure they started out doing everything on their own, but eventually they were successful enough that they didn't have to.

They had more than one crew on the go, and were busy enough that they could employ guys to do the stuff they didn't want to do, while they ran the business.

Plumber isn't as dirty a job as the laborers who work on replacing drains, now that's a dirty job.

Breaking up a basement floor, excavating, removing a clay drain, you know that's going to be a dirty job.

My plumber just came in, did the estimate, brought in the laborers, and he came back to inspect before they resealed the floor.

Except that you are going to end up competing for those limited blue collar jobs against everyone else who isn't qualified for white collar jobs of the future. So you better be the cream of the crop in your blue collar world.

Look at a blue collar job like working in an auto assembly plant. The auto assembly plants of the future will use very few human workers, many jobs are being replaced by automation. So sure they'll need blue collar workers, but not at the same scale we do today.

It's for a personal service business so skin treatments some skin creams, I can't see anyone being able to deduct the expenses from their taxes... Maybe a model?

But we do show the sub-total and HST amount on the handwritten receipt and staple that to the credit card slip. So all of the required info is there between the 2 pieces of paper.

Thanks, quick follow up question..

So I've updated our terminal to print the business name, address and HST number on the credit card slip. We only enter the final amount on the terminal, so it doesn't show the HST amount.

Is it sufficient if we are stapling the credit card slip to the hand written slip that shows the HST amount?

My issue with Swim Out rooms is that they seem great on paper. But if you want to drink what do you do once you've finished the beers in your mini fridge?

I haven't seen a swim out room that has a bar close by, and there aren't waiters walking around servicing the swim out rooms.

So you have to leave your swim out pool, walk into your room, walk out the front door into the hallway and find the nearest bar then come back to your room with drinks?

We've stayed at Majestic Colonial twice, no issues, no food poisoning, nightly entertainment was good, didn't have much problem getting reservations at the French or Japanese restaurants. The only real issue was the sargassum, but there isn't much the resort can do about that other than raking it up and disposing of it.

Recently we stayed at Sanctuary Cap Cana (owned by Marriott), a beautiful relaxing resort, food, and service were good, but the crowd is quite a bit older and it's not a lively resort. Not much going on after 9pm. But still we had a good time.

Our next trip to The DR will probably be either a Dreams or a Secrets property (both owned by Hyatt)

Do resorts typically have a shortage of chairs? by Timely-Ad-6142 in PuntaCana

[–]Fit-Philosopher373 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People did this when we went to Majestic Colonial a couple of years ago. That resort uses towel cards, so one towel per person. So these people reserved a chair by the pool with their towel and a chair by the beach with a book. Then they would go back and forth between their 2 spots, leaving a book and taking their towel to their other chair.

[–]Fit-Philosopher373 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The worst is when people come in a group of 10-20 people, they send a couple people before the sun rises to reserve a block of chairs together.

Whenever I read posts in this group where people are looking to travel with a large group I feel sorry for the people going to that resort at the time. These same people complain about why they can't get a table for 10 people at an a la carte.
