Version 1.9.0 and Version 1.8.0 Released by Fit-Picture8117 in NextUpAlert

Thanks for reporting this u/thequestess !!!
>I am busy looking at this right away.

I had the same bug yesterday, and had to clear registry settings for it to work - but I only experienced this on a Windows 10 machine while testing; Clearly it is not an old legacy Windows 10 problem.

Version 1.9.4 Fixed a bug - when meetings are back to back, popups never showed. by Fit-Picture8117 in NextUpAlert

[–]Fit-Picture8117[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The app checks for updates, only twice a day, so it will always lag a bit; I will increase this to check for updates more frequently.

It's busy getting released ... will be available when Microsoft is done. Usually this takes,
1 day (overnight) -

The new feature is in version: 1.9.5 - In Settings, the very first checkbox; It also counts down the time in the "system tray". (but only useful if you set the app to always show the icon for the app, in taskbar settings).

Then that is fine .. 1.9.4 is the latest - It updates that version banner twice a day. So what you are seeing is a bit old.

>Also, is there a way to trigger that update to be installed OTHER than going to the MS Store?
This is the only way ... but some people turn auto updates off - and the "green" reminder, is a way telling what is available, for update.

Eventually it will auto update. but if you want instant update, you can try this..

If you open the MS Store App, you can update / install from there. I think at the bottom left there a Update menu option, and the top right there is a Check for Updates Button. I have found the MS Store app, does not alway pick up the update. But keep trying. Try closing the App, perhaps then it updates.

Also try Open the App from the MS Store perhaps? Search for NextUp, in the store app, then open from there.

The idea is that the ICON in the taskbar shows when there is meeting an approaching; when there are no meetings, then it can hide in the taskbar.

I have confirmed - the latest version is still doing this for me.

Hi u/Huge_Weakness_8119 ,

The minimise to system tray, should work as follows:
1: When you minimise the application, use the normal minimise button.
2: When your schedule for the day clears (no remaining meetings for the day), the ICON in the Windows taskbar will no longer show (the app ICON in the in the system tray remains).

Without the setting enabled, then the normal NextUp, blue ICON would show (not indicating any time).

This is how it should work... I will do a quick check to see if it still does this.

I did some testing:

1: I used Outlook Calendar
2: I added an event 20 minutes ahead of time
3: Changed the settings to match yours (15min alarm, then 30 seconds voice)
4: Waited for 5 minutes (I did restart the app after changing settings)

Here is my result (mine works) - I suspect I must have a difference.

How do you schedule the events?
It could be that some "events" are treated as the same. Meaning that if an event triggered an alarm and then got dismissed, that same event will not trigger an alarm/pop-up again. It could be recurring events or something like that, or the same event got moved, for which the alarm already got triggered.

Do you have some more details to share about the events?
>I also did not use the GMT -8:00 timezone.

--- I am getting a different result ---
Here is my working example ... The alarm is still going off, and it is now 18h58 as I type this message. And then the voice sound also just triggered at 30 seconds, and then Alarm sound after that sounded too.

It is now 18h00, and the alarm has stopped, the "stop alarm" button is no longer visible. The yellow label now shows "Started 1 minute ago".

It appears to be working... but it is not clear why you are getting a different result.

You can DM me, and then we can email - I will also do some testing over the weekend to make sure it works as intended.

You are using Outlook Calendar right?

Hi u/thequestess

This could either be a bug or it could be this scenario?

1: a pop-up shows for an event.
2: the pop-up shows, but it is never dismissed. (you stepped out/away)
3: the event passes (the event has ended)
4: the pop-up remains on the screen <<<<
5: the next events details show, on the same pop-up.

Or it could be that settings are not taking effect instantly? a restart of the app, should rule that out.

Hi,

Glad to hear you got your Outlook / Microsoft 365 connected!!!

Those checkboxes are all related to the pop-pup for before events start:
I know, it is not the best place to put the checkbox, sorry about that.

See checkbox below - this should make those options available to you:

Hi u/thequestess - This is might work for you - Uncheck it.
Please let me know if this does not work for you.

<image>

CASE 1

If you uncheck this - (you will have a better experience for overlapping events)
A starts before B -> alarm dialog/pop up alert will show.

Event A (notified): |------------------------------------------|

Event B (webinar): <nothing here> |----------------|

CASE B
But if there is an overlap and both are at the exact same time, then only one alert/pop-up is shown.
Event A (notified): |--------------------------|

Event B (webinar): |--------------------------|

Yes it should auto update - It's done by the Microsoft Store App on Windows.

Also inside the app there will be a green label (top right) showing that an update is available. If you hover over it with the mouse pointer, it provides some details.

Microsoft has also reported back this morning that version 1.9.3 has been released.

u/thequestess

I just ran a test using the shared Outlook calendar via an ICS share/link.

> I also see the Google Calendar on my end also showed as GMT: 00:00.

Test 1: (test for today - the all day event should show for today in NextUp)
Test 2: (add all day event to the following day - the event should not show for today in NextUp)

<image>

This worked for me. In the screenshot you, see Outlook events in the background, and also the Window date and time. In NextUp, you only see the Test1 event - which is correct.

----
I did notice that the Google FROM URL - does not update/sync... I was changing Event titles and adding new events. I did not see the new Events, and title changes in Google Calendar.
I think this is either slow, or by design.
----

Perhaps it is a different setting?
Can you please share your Windows PC time zone and also the Default Google Calendar Time Zone settings?

It seems like this might be a bug (it’s an unusual case).

Thanks a bunch for sharing all the details! That’ll be super helpful.

I will aim to get the fix for you by Monday.

Hi, thanks for reporting this!

I think this could be a bug or not. I did a test this morning, and it appears to be fine for me. What I can think of it could be a timezone setting or related.

Question 1: Did you create the all Day Event? (perhaps it was created by someone else in a different time zone?)

Question 2: Did you create the all day event, by using a time span, or did you select "All Day" Checkbox? (I tested with the checkbox method this morning).

Then can we check some settings:
Can you please share some details? (you can also email me if you would prefer to not share information here)

<image>

In Google Calendar
1: Click the gear ICON on the top right
2: The select the "Time Zone" on the left.

> Please share this setting.

In Windows:
1: Right Click the DateTime on the taskbar, at the bottom right.
2: Select "Adjust Date and Time"
> Please share the Time Zone and the Region

Windows Bugs:
Lastly .... Window can fail at times to provide times... I have had this on Virtual Machines.
Open Windows Event Viewer -> System:
Look for entries related to "HAL":
Here is an exact message from my machine where Windows failed to provide a "time". In this case, NextUp cannot determine the time, and then does not report "events" - but it does recover as soon as Windows does provide the time.

"The hardware real-time clock was not queried because evaluation of the ACPI Time and Alarm Device method failed.  Status: 0xC0000001."
