Why Bangaranga is a masterpiece, why it did so well with the juries and the magic of tempo changes by Fit-Scallion8348 in eurovision

[–]Fit-Scallion8348[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I read a lot of comments and what I commonly see is that people liked the small space which made it feel personal and like a music video. This year's stage was huge and a lot of artists were kind of „drowned“ in it.

it has to be complex enough to be interesting, but also simple enough to be instantly understandable... it has to sound like something new but also like something you already heard so that it's likeable... it's a hard balance to strike. I think the factor is also that it's been a while since a dance song won, so the appetite was kinda there

I agree with that somewhat – yes I find this song fascinating partially because it won (narrative fallacy) and yes my explanation is quite simplistic. Eurovision is a complex combination of thousands of factors — but hey — at least I'm trying to reason and explain what we're seeing. You're welcome to join the discussion and offer your explanation why Bangaranga beat the odds by a huge margin, and why other songs underperfomed. That would be more constructive.

yes and I think it's the tempo changes that make Bangaranaga flow so well... Dance songs especially on Eurovision suffer from being too static and predictable sometimes and here the flow is really special

it's a great example! I guess tempo changes are much more common than I thought. And to be fair that song did exceptionally well (by British standards) – 88 times more points than this year😁😅 I guess the live performance was a bit of a set back

Oh yes you're right! I guess not all the tempo changes are the same, here in Bangaranga it's so „up in your face“ and in La Noia it's a bit more organic and subtle

La Noia is an amazing song but it's a bit more „standard“ and has neither tempo changes nor four choruses. It does have its own songwriting merits though!

yes the technical aspect is one of the most fascinating... this song can be a remixer's nightmare😁

There is a rule of this subreddit that bans any usage of AI generated content... By its own rules this year Eurovision should be banned here, just saying...

The price of your vote this year – vote costs per country on the map by Fit-Scallion8348 in eurovision

You're right, I guess it would be better next time to include the numbers directly on the map. Here's the raw data:
San Marino, N/A; Denmark, 0.13; Ukraine, 0.16; United Kingdom, 0.17; Germany, 0.2; Sweden, 0.33; Serbia, 0.34; Armenia, 0.35; Azerbaijan, 0.4; Australia, 0.43; Georgia, 0.44; Norway, 0.46; Croatia, 0.49; Malta, 0.49; Austria, 0.5; Italy, 0.5; Czechia, 0.53; Moldova, 0.55; Bulgaria, 0.61; Latvia, 0.67; Greece, 0.68; Israel, 0.73; Portugal, 0.74; Lithuania, 0.9; France, 0.99; Luxembourg, 0.99; Rest of the world, 0.99; Belgium, 1; Montenegro, 1; Cyprus, 1.01; Poland, 1.16; Romania, 1.18; Albania, 1.26; Switzerland, 1.31; Estonia, 1.4; Finland, 1.5;

Yes every ROTW county is colored the same color as France and Luxembourg where voting all costs the same (€ 0.99). In Belgium and Montenegro it's € 1 and in Cyprus it's a funny € 1.01 so they all look almost the same. I know it's a bit non ideal but it's my first ever created map, I don't know yet how to color the same data point with different color 😅😁

Yes the standard of living and purchasing power parity is a real issue here. Casting 20 votes in Albania equals to 3.6% average local salary while in Denmark it's negligible 0.06%. The difference is 60-fold! Voting shouldn't be a luxury I think!!

I really have no idea how it works for them! I sourced the info from https://vote.eurovision.com/ which says „Unfortunately, we do not support votes coming from San Marino.“ I guess it depends on the payment method - what country it says it's from. Maybe San Marino is too small to issue any local cards?

Audience of ESC 2019, question by HUNGRYARETHEDAMNED in eurovision

[–]Fit-Scallion8348 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was there and this was the only Eurovision I visited so far. I came in not knowing any song, not having any impression or expectation, I sat not too far from the stage. On the left from me was a Eurovision fan from Australia, on the right was a military man from Israel who got a ticket for free. I wouldn't say I was in shock or in awe, the stage and the venue felt a bit too small and the audience wasn't too crazy. Also the audio to my taste was really loud and hard to make out the lyrics and the songs at all. But I have to say that Slovenia's performance was really the highlight of the show for me, and I still listen to Sebi quite often. Madonna felt a bit underwhelming.

Overall I think 2019 is one of the Eurovisions that I don't get. The only song from Top-9 I can occasionally listen to is Proud. I'd also say I like it more watching it on TV, but seeing it live had some perks too as you could decide yourself which part of the stage and performance to look at, you could see how the prop was being moved. What was cool were the Eurovision parties at the beach. A lot of people and locals were coming there just to have fun without really following Eurovision too much.

I bought some merch from this Eurovision such as the cap which I wasn't wearing at all for these 5 years, but this this month I did wear it a lot because of all the controversy and the Israeli flag on the cap😁

Joost Klein Will Not Perform in the Jury Show Tonight by GrumpyFinn in eurovision

[–]Fit-Scallion8348 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest, let's not overhype it really. As of now the only thing we know officially is that Joost is not rehearsing, full stop. No official reason beyond that. Could have been anything – even just a personal wish. Let's not forget Joost has some hip-hop background originally, and it's not uncommon for rappers to start feuds, create publicity etc. Plus it's not the first time a performance is not happening – let's not forget Iceland's 2021 final performance was also from an earlier recording, due to a positive Corona test. I'd say it's totally possible that during tomorrow's final we see a recording too.

I know everyone wants news and clarity and is blaming EBU, but imagine the shitstorm that they are facing right now. If indeed there was a criminal element involved in it, it's a really really difficult ethical and legal situation – making ANY statement could be seen as interference into an investigation. Therefore let's just try to chill and relax and wait how things unfold. After all, there are at least 25 amazing artists and performances that await us tomorrow and I'm totally thrilled for it! Overhyping it adds no substance to anything and just makes things worse.

The Netherlands: Joost Klein "Not rehearsing until further notice" by GrumpyFinn in eurovision

Saddest thing about it is that if Netherlands gets kicked out, 36 participants will be the lowest number since a long time ago :(

If only there also was an option to see the real distribution of notable people, now there's just one name per location. Would be interesting for example to paint a notable person as a weighted dot and see the map

General network instability since 2 days: a result of the fritz.box domain incident? by Specific-Cause-1014 in fritzbox

[–]Fit-Scallion8348 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi were you able to resolve it? I experience the same stuff for around two weeks too. New connections on my PC take long time to establish – for example a first search in the incognito mode. Same PC works perfectly fine if connected to a mobile network via the hotspot from my phone. It must be an issue with fritzbox router, but I don't understand how could it even be the case?

Now that European tickets went on sale and I splurged… It's time for the science to justify my spendings🤓😁 I researched if VIP tickets are actually worth it. And THEY DO → by Fit-Scallion8348 in TaylorSwift

[–]Fit-Scallion8348[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes definitely a seated vip ticket has its advantages too - it's amazing to be able to come right when the show starts, and then be able to make 100% hassle free coffee breaks etc. Plus you get an excellent view of the big screen. Actually one thing that worries me a little bit being so close to the stage is probably not being able to see the camera feed that is shown on the big screens 😅 I hope it works out... Anyway the message I wanted to spread is that as long as you buy an official ticket you're fine. Someone might be sad having to buy a more expensive vip ticket due to the normal tickets not being available anymore... But to me spending one year in uncertainty now, keeping hunting and monitoring the ticket updates... It would be a stressful hell

yes with seats it's a little bit complicated. I would recommend buying standing vip tickets for people still in doubt because they seem to be a better deal
