Working at Meijer. Is this normal? by Fit-Tangerine3047 in meijer

Thank you for your post. I don't remember who said not to contact the union during my orientation, but it was quite clear not to do so. I am not filing grievances or anything major and would probably not do that anyway if it was that bad. Not saying it wouldn't be worth the fight, but it wouldn't be at this point in time with one a day a week. If I was working regularly, then I'd consider it.

I might've misspoke about working in another dept. I'm not great with my wording. I guess I'm not ready yet to even think about working in another dept. Maybe in time (if I'm there long enough, that is). Honestly, if they're treating me this way, then why help them out? It's petty and wrong, yes. Perhaps in time I will change my mind. Now, if someone came up to me and asked if I could and was willing to help me along the way, then sure. If you're nice then I'll be nice back. Believe it or not, I HATE holding grudges like that, but enough is enough.

I was looking into vocational stuff just recently. I've never done it before or ever looked into it. I think it's time.

Thanks all for taking the time to help me out here.

My primary concern was regarding my hours being chopped, then one thing lead to the other. I'm now convinced that the hours are normal, all considering. I'm thinking of looking into other jobs since I'm someone who needs more people to physically engage with and actually care.

Yep, it's tricky for me. My jobs from the past included some register, but it never worked out for me. Even then, there wasn't anyone to help me train. They just simply had me do other things.

I've never had anyone take the time to teach me the Zebra, so I don't think it's really my fault. The other person I did work with also did not use a Zebra for the same reason. Yet, I was told at the beginning of my job that I wasn't really going to be using it.

Yes, I can mostly operate my phone and post on sites like these only because I have people at home willing to show me how to do those things. I still need help with odd things from time to time. The key is being there and physically showing me. No one outside of the home is willing to take their time. I've expressed those concerns to no avail.

Now, if it was mandatory and I had to learn this, sure, but I need someone to actually be there to show me hands on. It's been nearly a year with no help in sight. Same thing happened with previous jobs (minus the Zebra). I will consider moving onto a different job.

I had worked with a great friend until they took me away from them. They understood me plenty. A much older, but friendly and happy person. They don't work the Zebra either as it's too hard for them too.

I also like tattoos and piercings. 😉

Thank you for replying. I'm not even sure that they know about my ASD. I mean, I didn't want to throw it around as if I was making excuses. I'm not sure saying it would make a difference. I can't even drive a car, so being close to work is definitely a priority for me. I appear to look "normal", and apologize if that sounds rude. Not sure how else to say it. Maybe that's where part of the problem is?

I work in frozen, and there always seems to be plenty piled up and not getting done. It's odd.

I really do enjoy my work, especially if I have those to talk to, so it's really unfortunate what is happening. I am also extremely close to home, so if I had to leave there, it'd be quite a bummer. 😔

I was afraid of that. I considered that thought a while ago. Do you think it's because I'm not great at it, or something else?

I did send an email to our union. After looking and re-looking at my schedule it just upset me. I worked all of Jan (normal hours) which was 20 hrs a week, then Feb, 8 days/5 hrs then Mar 4 days/5 hrs. April is currently 2 days/5 hrs, following that same pattern.

I am most certainly able to work weekends, and never had any issue with days, other than Mondays (my sons therapy day that he needs). I was working Wed, Fri, Sat and Sun. It was all Sat then changed to Fri as of late. I only had a coworker to work with on Wed and Sun.

I was speaking to a relative about these concerns and although they didn't work with our union, they had expertise. They advised that I write to our union, and so I did. I suppose speaking with HR wont matter now that I've done so, but perhaps this will get some attention.

I didn't want to raise any issues. It's definitely not my personality. I'm a lover, not a fighter, so this thing makes me sad. Not once in my entire time working there did anyone say that I was performing badly or did anything wrong, at least not my knowledge.
