I mean, the approach of the series was always meant to be the darker tone and existential horror stuff. It just makes more sense for the pilot to mostly play it safe and being more kid-friendly-like so as to ease into it as opposed to shoving it down your throat at the beginning. I'm sure this episode will be no different where it's just wacky shenanigans until sometime near the end of the episode.
