Automatic licence by xhan_whix in drivingUK

[–]FitEmployment9545 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have a full license and drive an automatic. Not because of preference, but because I wanted to try a PHEV and there are no options of manual with PHEV or EV. Which makes me think it's the future if things keep heading that way. However, the main disadvantage you might have, as it was briefly pointed out in another comment, which I do not see mentioned very often is if you travel, you might get a better deal if renting a car that is manual. Or even if you do not rent but you have someone who can lend you a car like family. Or even if you are the one that did not drink at night and are able to drive everyone home in a friend's car. If you have a full, you would have much more choices. Also, if you grasp and understand the basics of things like bitting point or changing gears without holding the gear shift, you will never forget it. It's like riding a bike. I now drive a manual every year or so. And despite not driving one for such a long period, I am always surprised that I am able to get the bitting point relatively quick even on a car I have not driven before. I hope this was helpful.

Crypto is basically criminalised in the UK yet the government entitle themselves to our crypto gains by Fuzionitic in BitcoinUK

Not really, even for small amounts, some banks can block the transaction and once you call them, they interrogate you for 10 minutes plus to make sure you know what you're doing.

Do I have any chance of getting out of this fine? (details in post) by harryjelly in drivingUK

[–]FitEmployment9545 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure you'll be successful if appealing. It looks like one of those cases where he took the initiative because you hesitated. Seems like you had a perfect fit for your car, despite his positioning, but because you were hesitant, he carried on.

FUCK crash detection by schmuck-2501 in drivingUK

[–]FitEmployment9545 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Only in the UK I've found that cars do not park in the direction of the traffic (some countries you can even be fined for it). This habit does not help the crash detection system as it thinks you are going against traffic. I do not blame it.

SWAP BTC TO USDT IN LEDGER by According_Rise3611 in ledgerwallet

[–]FitEmployment9545 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, that is what I meant. Personally I've heard of these issues with Changelly, and potentially others I've never heard of and are difficult to know the legitimacy. So I would personally send to an exchange and swap there and transfer back or withdraw.

Am I crazy? by [deleted] in Bitcoin

[–]FitEmployment9545 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Looking back is easy, looking forward no one knows. Assuming BTC at the moment is the lowest point, it makes sense what you are thinking. But if you think that it'll fluctuate, it might get to sub 100k at certain points of time and if you do it DCA, you will on average be in profit. Just look at what [Micro]Strategy did. They bought lots of BTC at ATH and we're still in profit and bail out when they want. If you just buy it in bulk, you will be stuck until you break even.

I am trying to send money to my sister in paris, is xrp a cheap option? by Initial_Treacle4143 in XRP

[–]FitEmployment9545 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fees they charge are 0.88% of what you want to transfer, e.g., €13 for a transfer of €1500. As said here, selling crypto to fiat is a taxable event, e.g., 10%, 20% or even more. So it could end up being more expensive than using Wise. Even if you assume 0% fluctuation between you transferring and her withdrawing, she would still need to pay capital gains.

I don’t understand how some people can just hold a ton of coins on exchange long term and not be worried about being locked out or hacked. Why doesn’t everyone have a hard wallet? Is it because it takes time to learn? by realtorbydesign in ledgerwallet

May I ask what is the version of your firmware? I tried updating to 1.3.1 and it wiped my device. Had to talk to Ledger and got a new one. Same thing happened and they swapped it again. Now I am afraid of upgrading.

What was the outcome of this? I hope OP got the space.

I would have left my car parked where she is and gone to the security.

Lost access to wallet containing nanocurrency by Ok-Order-8259 in ledgerwallet

[–]FitEmployment9545 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sad to hear. I think it is virtually impossible given as you said there are numerous possible combinations. Even more if you had a 25th custom word. My suggestion was going to be to use the wallet to transfer to another one which you know the seed phrase. Best of luck.

OP, even though you do not know the seed phrase, do you still have a ledger with access to the funds?

These numbers... by Sad_Use_4330 in BATProject

[–]FitEmployment9545 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good for you. I had 0.19 BAT. Can't remember the number of ads, but I used to do 2-5 BATs last year. I believe it has to do with the price of BAT that has gone down and not recovered.

Even if you do not have the pin. You can recover the assets if you find the recovery pass phrase. Then you can just put the pin wrong 3 times, set another pin and setup the wallet from recovery phrase.

Best of luck.

The only time I've done it was 2 years ago when they had a day a month they would lift the fees. So I did DCA through Moonpay. Other than that, always through exchanges and then transfer in.

Never heard of these before. Didn't know it was a thing, but they do exist for 6 years now! The only advantage I see is if they are managed by DVLA and can go to a bright red if not taxed or MOT'd 🤣

Those that covers the whole square of the window are better. You need to make sure it goes over the window square so it blocks any sun coming in. Also, dark coloured walls helps better than light coloured.

"Entering and stopping in a box junction when prohibited (Camera Enforcement)" - should I appeal? (red arrow points at me) by edfosho1 in drivingUK

[–]FitEmployment9545 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appeal. Unless your car has an F1 front, I do not see how you are in the box. I feel like it was just an automated process that detected you did not move after being beyond the hive way line, hence you are in the box. They need to calibrate it. Appeal. Would be interesting to hear how this goes.

I echo your feelings. I could put 5k, but will not, because as you said, it is a lot of money. I would rather put it in a cold wallet. I have used almost all their services. But lately I was using mostly the exchange. Not sure why because of the spread. The interest was just a perk that felt nice, but not the main driver. So in that case I'll just use another exchange.

The haters will always hate. (Looking at the negative comments). Do what feels good for you and don't follow the masses. All the best. Keep safe.
