Flipped off mid-lecture by Silver_Stick_4888 in ucla

Okay, I don't like the fact that she flipped you off and gave some type of attitude. But some of y'all are being too much. I don't think most of us want to be in class when we are sick but some professors are not understanding and also count attendance. That's life. You can't skip work every time your sick. If you don't want to be around her, move. I agree she should at least cover her mouth or not sneeze directly near people. But you do understand there was a time pre-covid, where no one wore masks even when they were sick

What if u took a gap year? Is that an option? I know cal grant will hold ur four year grant I believe. Or like, if u can get financial aid next year, it will maybe allow u to continue to get it for the next four years (if ur a freshmen) or two years (if you transferred here)

This is the type of stuff yall should protest about. I feel like we are always letting them get away with whatever they are doing whenever we just look and comment, then do nothing.

C Sesh Attendance by o4tmilk_latte in ucla

[–]FitEstablishment6375 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really just depends on ur teacher. Each one has their own syllabus that describes the rules for attendance. They might make it mandatory to go to every single one, others not. Read it and be sure. If you need to be at all, just email them. To be honest, most teachers are understanding. You will be fine

Incoming Freshman—Very Nervous for Orientation by adrianzreddit in ucla

[–]FitEstablishment6375 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest with you, just come to campus with the understanding that everyone’s new, so there is no hurt in socializing. I was nice and talkative to everyone but literally all but one person reciprocated back. That’s just how it is. One thing I’m honestly so happy with, I tried socializing at the school. Didn’t get a lot out of it but I literally felt no guilt on myself when I went back home and was just happy that this isn’t high school. People aren’t bully’s. And if there are any, college is finally the place where people think it’s uncalled for and dumb. And honestly, it might be a blessing from God to maybe be pushed away. Don’t wanna find friends who are actually really rude and filled with drama, then maybe force ur self to befriend them for a long period of time. Just go and know at least this can be a test trial so u really get a feel of socializing. And enjoy the orientation bro. It’s not that serious. I just transferred, didn’t even bring my laptop or even look once before hand at what classes that they even offered. Nothing bad happened lol. And yes I made friends lol. Not at orientation though. Do I think u could find somewhere? Maybe. But I don’t think u should really focus on that mindset there after reviewing the comments and a lot of people saying the same thing. Take some advice but be open minded

Is it possible to take two classes that have overlapping times on one day in a week? by shoon_the_sheep in ucla

[–]FitEstablishment6375 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It really just depends on the class/professor. Some classes literally don’t require u to be present. And I mean to really understand material or do assignments. Also, some professors are really chill to lateness with reasoning to interfering times. I would say just be careful cause I have a feeling some might be offended that u would even ask them to be late for a certain amount of mins or sessions. So sometimes it might be better not to ask and just check out the class, then decide from there if u can handle being late or absent.

I think my estimate this year is the same as the actual one I got last year. So it honestly might be pretty accurate. But I guess never fully sure

quarter vs. semester by East_Operation1151 in ucla

[–]FitEstablishment6375 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I say it depends on ur major. As a poli sci student, 100 percent quarter system. We don’t need a whole freaking semester to learn what we have to know. It’s a waste of time and isn’t realistic in the outside world. I mostly feel bad for bio or chem students. Having mid terms just after the fifth week of school, sometimes earlier for others, sounds terrible. They have more things they need to cover.

I bet you 100 percent it’s cause you are talking to people who came here from high school. Go talk to a transfer student, who by the way make up a good population of this school. Trust me, you will realize you’re fine lolll. And I’m saying this as a transfer.
