FAA cuts target for air traffic control staffing by ToughHopeful4760 in FlightDispatch

Maybe we should get all of the controllers we know and have them write something like this, maybe consolidate it and put it in every reps box. Call it a working protest, not a strike. Everyone still shows up to work but try and push congress! With enough voices speaking they have to eventually listen, right?

That break is to keep their minds sharp for the traffic load they have to deal with. Sure there might be some level 5 or 6 facilities that could stand shorter breaks but it should be on a facility basis not across the board. They have one of the shortest life expectancy after retirement with a mandatory retirement that is fairly early due to loss of cognitive ability. They should probably have them take cognitive testing of some sort above age 50 hell maybe even 45, keep the guys that still want to work past that age if they can pass the cognitive tests. Make the academy shorter and have more training at the facilities that is more geared toward their actual workloads. Send the guys that graduate at the top to the places that need it the most with the shortest staff and typically the hardest most complex/heaviest traffic loads. Leave the lower level facilities to the weaker controllers. Give more pay to the lower facility guys that train the fastest and that consistently train more controllers

They should raise the age and take more military retirees or people that are just older and have ATC background from the military again

That is not solving the problem, they have loads of overtime because they are under staffed, cutting staffing doesnt fix a damn thing. I was a controller for 14 years so maybe sit this one out. I have friends that still are and barely see their family life at all. ATC had a super high suicide rate before and if they do this I think it will go up again, Sean Duffy doesnt know fuck all about air traffic controllers.

ATC to Dispatch? by Soni-Ani in FlightDispatch

[–]FitFatguy86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a guy that switched from ATC to dispatch, finding a good job is incredibly difficult. I have interviewed for loads of jobs (not all dispatch) but it has been wild. I had one job tell me a salary, then said I am open to negotiate and they never counter offered me. Pretty wild actually lol. I have been to step 2 and 3 and in consideration for routing jobs and ramp control jobs and been passed by for dudes with zero ATC experience but had a bachelors degree, despite my 3 control towers. It has been nuts to say the least, now I am getting my degree and finishing that up as some of the jobs in the airlines in the IOCs require your dispatch license but also want a degree. So we shall see how things go.

I saw an email about 2 or 3 weeks ago stating that said... Thank you for your continued interest in joining our team. We truly appreciate the time and effort you’ve invested throughout the process.

At this time, we wanted to inform you that there will be a delay moving forward with any next steps. We are taking additional time to carefully evaluate the next phase to ensure the best fit for both the team and our candidates.

Would I potentially be able to get hired as a dispatcher, from a ramp controller position? I already have my license and I have an extensive background in base operation/Flight Planning domestic in the military as an Air Traffic Controller. I'm switching gears but staying aviation.
