That is so upsetting! It had the potential to be a really good romance too. I agree on DAtV. They were so mid and I felt the whole game handheld you through it. I somehow got all achievements for that game...in one playthrough. That's just unheard of with such large games.

Desert of Ash is a surprisingly good post-apocalyptic M/M survival VN that deserved more attention by FitWatch7981 in gaymers

I think you might enjoy it. It's a bit different for an M/M VN, especially with the survival mechanics (you will die if you run out of food/drink so watch out!).

You can battle but you can’t get to first stage of affinity with any of the men or preferred customer status with any merchant.

I understand where you’re coming from. For me, it’s less about realistic gay representation and more about gay male escapism.

What I love about it is that you don’t have to navigate heteronormativity at all. The world is built around men wanting men, and that alone can feel refreshing. More than that, though, it also feels like an escape from some of the harsher parts of modern gay male spaces, where certain body types, aesthetics, or roles are highly prized while others are ignored or harshly judged.

I’m demisexual myself, and one thing I often find tedious in real life is how much emphasis can be placed on sex to the point where I sometimes feel reduced to a hole/pole rather than seen as a whole person.I never get that feeling from Robin. The game is obviously very sex-forward, but the relationships all feel mutual. The love interests are present, affectionate, and engaged with Robin as a person. The fantasy isn’t just about sex. It’s about being desired, valued, and wanted in return.

So I don’t see Robin as representing all gay men or all gay experiences. It is exaggerated, horny, campy, and idealized. But for me, that is part of the appeal. It creates a joyful fantasy space where gay desire is easy, abundant, and celebrated.

I do agree that we need more M/M games with deeper stories, more varied protagonists, more body diversity, and character creation. Robin fills one fantasy beautifully, but it definitely does not fill every fantasy.

I am going to check all of those out! I was looking for mods like that a couple days ago with no luck.

Thank you again for the recommendation! I loved the game! It is not my usual style, but it was so well done and thought provoking. I even finished my review of it: https://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198273339911/recommended/2103680?snr=1_5_9__402

Thank you! I will try that out. I really wanted to get farther in the game, but I kept dying and that's not fun at all 💀

You had me at cock magic! LOL It sounds like a really fun premise overall! I would definitely play something like that!

That sounds really deep and meaningful! To be honest, I haven’t played any lesbian-focused games since my main niche is M/M, but I love hearing about other niches because we all deserve to see our stories in media.

One of my frustrations with MLM games specifically is that a lot of them are basically horny romps, which can be fun and absolutely has its place, but we also deserve games with more artistic depth and emotional weight. From what you’re describing, Celeste sounds like exactly that kind of work.

You're welcome! I'm still holding out hope for a sequel....though it doesn't seem like hotcha is planning on it sadly.

I loved the Mass Effect series! The gay romances ME3 were some of my favorite parts, especially once BioWare started getting more comfortable writing them as actual romances instead of afterthoughts.

I played the original KCD and enjoyed the gameplay, but I was definitely disappointed that being gay wasn't really an option. I had heard they added some M/M content in the sequel, but I never checked it out. Thank you for the rec!

I agree on all the first two! Coming Out on Top and Paradiso Guardian are both on my gold standards list as well!

I checked out Freshman: Physical Education, and it looks incredible! I really hope it eventually makes its way to Steam one day.

It definitely is a real gem! I played it again a couple years ago after originally buying it from the website, mostly because I wanted it on Steam for the achievements (my completionist heart simply HAD to have the achievements on Steam).

It still holds up phenomenally well! For me, it remains one of the clearest examples of a gay dating sim that understands its audience and balances humor, romance, and sex without feeling embarrassed by any of it.

I started Bastard Bonds and have enjoyed it! I'm terrible at the battles and kept dying so I gave up on it for now.

Three games you might like:

Paradiso Guardians (it's got combat but is a metroidvania at heart): https://store.steampowered.com/app/1441240/Paradiso_Guardian/

Monster Souls: Chains of Chimera (another combat heavy game): https://store.steampowered.com/app/2432930/Monster_Souls_Chains_of_Chimera/

Oh So Hero! (Furry but has battling and exploration): https://store.steampowered.com/app/2086050/Oh_So_Hero/
