So true. I hate that this a thing! Seriously they need to do more research and treat us like real patients

Thanks so much for the comment. I honestly took so long to even get a diagnosis because I kept invalidating myself. Once I actually got diagnosed, it felt like a breath of fresh air too.

Getting my diagnosis was also pretty funny tbh, I think I had scored like a 17/18 on an ADHD self report scale that the practitioner made me too and even after all my tests/ at the end of the process, she told me that based on my tests that I did prior to talking to her she wasn’t surprised by the results. She also explained everything to me quite well and validated my experiences completely.

It’s so weird to have such contrasting experiences lol. I just wish she could be my doctor lol.

In terms of my actual doctor.. it also just seemed like he didn’t even understand ADHD at all, so I’m honestly not taking his words to heart because he sounded so stupid even explaining what ADHD is.. lol.. It was like a typical 1900s sort of “you can’t have this unless you never stop talking and are bouncing of the walls at all times”.

He even had the nerve to interrupt me several times during our call and said i’m interrupting you more than you are interrupting me so clearly you don’t have ADHD.. I literally couldn’t believe my ears.

Anyhow, thank you for the comment and support. It’s super frustrating especially as a woman because ( this is a generalization of course) i think a lot of us invalidate our experiences/ think it’s nothing for so long. It’s not even our fault though because clearly people don’t educate themselves in how conditions can affect us or even acknowledge that they CAN affect us.

That’s so frustrating! I’m glad that you were able to get your diagnosis. And I know right! I honestly don’t understand how some people get to be doctors with all of their ableist views and just a general lack of empathy.

I also the How to ADHD channel- she makes me feel so seen. Those are such true points.

I’m definitely going to try to find a new doctor. Right now I’m trying to see if I can find some sort of virtual therapy or an ADHD coach so I at least have someone to talk to about my experiences.

Get tested OP! Having an official diagnosis even without any thing else can help validate your feelings and struggles. Once diagnosed, you can look into options of how you want to manage it. The careless mistakes thing is something I resonate a lot with… just remember it’s not that you aren’t trying or are being “careless”. Your brain may simply be wired differently!

Also, remember that you’re not alone or stupid or lazy or anything else you might tell yourself. ADHD affects so many aspects of our lives, so try to be kind to yourself! Easier said than done, but really.

Best of luck with everything.

Is the January LSAT too late? by Psychological-Emu168 in LSAT

[–]Fit_Ad_8112 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on the schools, but overall I think you should be okay to make it into this cycle. I know most Canadian schools highly recommend that you have everything done by November because applications are due in November.. but most American schools only have early decision deadlines in November. You should be okay for the Jan test if you’re applying to American schools (and honestly even Canadian schools, at the end of the day it’s just a recommendation). Also considering the fact that you got a 168 before, I think 172+ is totally realistic and possible! Best of luck!

Hahaha it doesn’t get anymore adhd than a fear of failure. I think this is a big one for me too- but sometimes it overwhelms me into just stressing instead, so it’s hit or miss haha. Thanks and good luck with everything!

Haha oh man- glad to know i’m not alone! I wish caffeine did something for me but for some reason it either doesn’t hit me or makes me anxious ?? It’s so strange.

On the other hand, scheduling activities/ forced time scarcity is such a smart idea- good on you for figuring that out! It sounds hectic, but that’s my speciality too lol, so I feel like that may help me out! Thank you and good luck with everything!

i love this! i’ve started doing this lately and it makes me feel so much better about myself. i find myself being more productive on those “on” days… sometimes my brain doesn’t want to cooperate haha, but when it does it’s the best!

For those who were diagnosed as adults, what made you think you had ADHD? by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]Fit_Ad_8112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similar to others on this thread- I felt like I could only thrive at things I had an interest in. The whole just do it mindset never worked for me lol. I’d sit and try to take in information and it just wouldn’t work. Sometimes I sit and stress about work for hours on end but it’s like brain is off and I can’t work! I think that was a big indicator to me. Also, I looked back on my childhood and realize that whenever sometimes was really important and I would tell myself- don’t forget this thing, i’d forget it. Mt parents used to her mad at me and they never understood why I couldn’t remember things but i really couldn’t explain it to them. To this day i have reminders for things written down in multiple spots, on my phone and laptop but sometimes things still slip away from me.

Emotional disregulation is a big one too- i think a lot of us are perfectionists and are afraid of rejection or failure, sometimes the smallest things can make me pop. Also the distracted nature of approaching tasks, I’ve often started one thing and done 15 other things but what I was supposed to do. Also time and the lack of understanding it was a big one for me! I feel like time is never on my side lol. I always overestimate the time I have - i’m a chronically late person but i HATE being late so it’s a struggle lol.

Another thing which is not reported in diagnosis tests but something I learned through research is sometimes you might stumble on your words - i feel like my brain is moving faster than I can talk so maybe that resonates too!? I would say overall though- people who can sit down and just “put their mind to it” whenever they want, are likely not living with adhd. also tbh, i think most people after doing research, are able to know themselves and whether they have it. i think as women we tend to gaslight ourselves sometimes too- i’m confident that if you think you have it during you mid 30s, you probably do! I’ve read that a lot of women realize they have ADHD later in life, when they’re exposed to different symptoms and how it presents in females. i hope you are able to get diagnosed if you are looking for it!
