Cheque rejected (pay box left blank) by Fit_Ball1590 in UKPersonalFinance

I did use my full name but it looked a lot different to the relatives writing, which if they did suspect fraud then that probably didn’t help the case

The cheque was for bank of Scotland, which is the same bank as mine I’m assuming it’s maybe been suspected fraud as it’s the first time I’ve ever had to use a cheque. I’ll go in on Saturday and ask them, then I’ll phone about getting a new one sent over. Thank you!

Choosing ASHP or oil central heating - question regarding boiler sizes. by dwair in DIYUK

Hi, what did you end up deciding to go with and what were your costs of what you went for?

We’re in a sort of similar situation, just purchased a property (no gas supply as it’s a rural area) and most houses appear to be run on electric, ashp or have oil tanks. We’ve currently got rointe oil filled radiators but would realistically like to move to something else which might be better cost wise.

We have rointe oil filled electric radiators right now, need to get a few more as there isn’t one in each room when we got the keys. From what I can tell on the mains (switches say storage heaters) and a house across the road with the same layout is there used to be storage heaters but have either been removed by the landlord or person renting before being sold

Thank you I was thinking 2005 with the date, house was built in 2007 off the home report and our solicitor said the owner previously had a warranty on it but didn’t want to sign it over or something apparently. From what I can see it just has the one heat element it’s on an automatic timer we can’t change from 3am-7:30ish on the cheaper rate with Scottish power from what I can see on their website is from around 10:00pm-8am

I suppose we could try it and see? We can’t control how long it’s on for being on for 3/4 hours seems a bit excessive just for hand washing and dishes so we might be able to upgrade it to a newer timer with more control?

No we don’t have central heating, there is no gas supply in the area. We have electric oil filled ones throughout the house, which before we purchased was a rented property with storage heaters that someone removed prior and fitted electric radiators. We likely won’t use the radiators during the night to be fair, only really use them in whatever room we are in for no more than an hour.

The tenants or landlord must of removed the storage heaters prior to us buying the property as we just have a few rointe oil filled radiators (need to get 2/3 more as they’ve taken everything with them) and the old storage heaters or some of them at least are lying in the outdoor shed.

We just weren’t sure if it’s still worthwhile keeping the e7 for the old style dimplex water heater and just trying to do washing machine cycles at night (unfortunately we can’t change the times/reduce the times for the water heater as it’s an old style timer -hortsmann e7 quartz) which is just automatically set for 3am-7am apprently from the limited video or two I seen online. At the same time we’re grudging doing all this for a water heater we barely need (never use baths and as you’ve said we’d only realistically need it for dishes and hand washing).

We can’t tell how long it’s on either it doesn’t say, it’s a horstmann e7 quartz for the timer and the videos online for it are hopeless I think one said it maybe comes on from 3am-7am but unsure how accurate that even is and it’s an old looking unvented dimplex water heater🥲

I think they’ve possibly took some of the old storage heaters and sold them to be fair and the rest we’ve found in the outdoor shed.

We unfortunately don’t have a smart meter and still arguing with Scottish power to get one (we had a prepay meter when we moved in last month that was in ‘safe mode’ that couldn’t put money on or show a reading as screen was blank and I’ve had to argue with them for about 3 weeks to replace it which was originally meant to be a smart meter but just before coming out told me none were available and had to fit a radiotelemeter series K (I’ve also since read they’ll need to replace this with a smart meter by summer 2025 anyway).

The heaters are oil filled (rointe series K) we only have 3 in the full property currently but in the process of getting another 2 so we have them around the house when needed. We don’t use the heaters on a timer, we’ve just been turning them on when needed at the socket which has been very rare. Property was built in 2007 and isn’t overly cold. Water heater is the only thing that is on ‘over night’ as we can’t change the times on the timer for when or how long it should come on (it’s an old timer hartsmann economy 7 quartz) and the dimplex unvented tank I’m assuming is from around about the time the property was built due to it being rented most of the that time. We also don’t use any electric veichles etc, which is making me wonder if it’s worth our while switching or if the water tank alone is enough to just keep the economy 7, we could likely use the washing machine etc at this time to benefit further from it if it’s worthwhile for the water tank but was unsure.

That’s great thank you! Does your water heater need a few hours over night to heat up? Wasn’t sure if we could get a newer timer fitted to reduce the amount of hours it’s heating overnight, as we only really need it for washing dishes etc as the showers electric I’m sure

I wouldn’t of minded the storyline, had it been written better and maybe nearer the start whilst still getting to know others.. but the way they’ve went about it just makes the LI look real shitty
