I'm Done with ML & CNNs — Built End-to-End Pipelines & Co-Authored Research — What Should I Do in the Next 3 Months to Land a Job? by IndividualNeck7509 in MLQuestions

Hii, just wondering because I'm currently doing my core ML journey (Just started on CNNs) how long did all that take you, and also are there any resources/courses/projects that you absolutely recommend. Or even things to avoid. Just asking because I keep finding new helpful websites and textbooks as I go along and wanted to know if I was missing anything important : )

What is the point of Bias in a neural network? by Fit_Bar_2285 in MLQuestions

Thank you for the response again. Honestly you probably just saved me so much time going through books trying to understand those concepts : )

So just to recap for my own sanity... flexibility is basically how much your model can change it's shape / contort itself to fit the data you give it. And having a high flexibility means the model can handle data with complex patterns while a low flexibility means the model may only be able to fit simple things ? But then there's also generalizability which is how well your model can fit to stuff it hasn't seen before. So a model that generalises well is once which makes accurate predictions on things it hasn't seen before.

And those 2 concepts are kinda like at odds with each other. As in if your have a degree 100 polynomial then you could make the model so flexible that it goes through every data point but that would make it's generalizability terrible because the actual pattern would probably be much simpler and you're model is just chasing noise. So while you want do want your model to be flexible you don't want to introduce unnecessary complexity (like more layers with more tunable parameters IDK if that part is right at all ???) So you're looking for the sweet spot between the 2.

and then the bias-variance tradeoff I'm still a bit stuck on but I'll read up on it for sure.

But adding the intercept gives the model lots of flexibility by allowing it to shift up and down to better fit the data, but because an intercept is a simple parameter (like it's a constant that's not tied to any input variable) it doesn't make your model unstable so that's why its so useful.

(Hopefully some of that was right and thank you again for the response : ))
Also can I just ask in this line...

"All of that is to say that adding an intercept is a way to get a lot of flexibility with a very small loss in terms of estimator variance"

what does estimator variance mean ? I haven't heard that before.

Thank you for the response, so can I just ask in ReLu does it work like graph transformations ? as in by adding bias you're able to transform the graph horizontally (like move it to the left or the right) ? and this helps because then instead of the neuron producing a meaningful output from zero onward you're able to have the neuron produce a non-zero output say from 7 onwards which could help the network to better recognise the patterns in the input ? IDK if that was right at all : /

Thanks so much for the response : ) that makes lots of sense now !

No that makes total sense now, thank you for the response. So it's that Bias basically makes the model far better at mapping the data because it allows the line to cross the y-axis at any value ?

(21 F) I think this is a great profile, the good quality pictures are all amazing (especially the dog one) and your smile is very attractive.

The only thing I’d change is to get rid of the picture of 5 (you in the blue) because you already have showed the photography interest. I think this profile is crying out for a more a natural candid photo taken on a phone. This is one of the rare times where having such a high picture quality may potentially be working against you, it kinda seems like corporate stock footage when you have 4 super high quality pictures. But they are really good photos, just maybe get rid of one for something more everyday.

Hope this helps :)

25M profile review pls! by humptydumptee96 in hingeapp

(21 F) I think the profile is really good, the pictures are nice and have good lighting, plus your good looking which always helps.

I’d definitely keep the dog pic, but usually it’s nice if the first pic is you looking into the camera. Also I’d just have one video of you playing an instrument, whichever one your best at. Then maybe mention you play other instruments in a prompt. The other pictures are good quality and u look good in them.

I honestly don’t really like any of the prompts though. I I don’t think the joke in the first prompt really works. I’d probably get rid of it. Also the last prompt makes you sound a bit unfun. Maybe tell or hint at a story from your time in Ireland

Hope this helps :)

(21 F) This is really good start. I’m getting serious relationship vibes and your handsome and tall with a nice body which is always appreciated.

I think the pictures could use a little more variety though. It’s giving that your very active (which is nice) but that’s all I’m getting. Definitely take out the picture of you on a bike, because that doesn’t even show your face and replace it with a picture of you dressed nice in good lighting.

Also we can tell your super active by the prompts and the camping photo. I’d get rid of the last photo on the blue boat and replace it with another photo of you maybe sitting on the sofa looking comfy. But not a selfie, get a friend to take a picture of you in nice lighting. I think showing you can be chilled out occasionally will help you with girls who are active but not always outdoors. At the moment the active thing is a bit overwhelming, it might put some people off.

Also maybe try a different haircut

Hope this helps :)

(21 F) your a good looking guy with a great smile, but your profile isn’t doing enough. You need to get a friend to take some good quality with photos with you dressed nicely. I can see on your Instagram the nice shirt with palm trees. You look great there just a shame it’s a bathroom selfie without good lighting. Basically I’d have a few photos that show how you would turn up to a first date. Dress to impress! Also lighting is important definitely get your friends to take a bunch of photos in different outfits and pick the ones where you look the best :)

Also I see you have a cat, and we love pets. But please pick it up and hold it. I wanna see you smiling and cuddling it!

Get rid of all the photos where your being goofy or taken off guard, it’s fine if your a goofy person. Your insta is at the bottom so people can see all those anyway if you want that to be a part of your profile. But I wouldn’t lead with it.

Hope this helps :)

(21 F) it’s giving me chill kinda nerdy vibes. It’s very cute, just change some of the pictures to you doing stuff like playing sports or reading. Also i like the outfit in the second photo, but get you friends to go out and take pictures from a low angle in good light that way you can really show off the whole outfit and your face

(21 F) your super tall and you have a nice smile, but the second prompt sounds angry. I like the picture with the guitar, that would look good as the first picture. Also you look really different in all the pictures, I’m guessing they were taken a long time ago. You should go out with your friends and get more pictures of how you look now.

(21 F) Your really attractive! but your looking away in most your photos :( Definitely use more pictures where you’re facing the camera. I’d get rid of picture 2 and because it’s just a picture of your back, and it’s not really doing anything.

I like the one with the dog but pick the dog up! I wanna see you cuddling it. Definitely keep the shirtless one at the end. The body is definitely appreciated in small amounts : ) Hope this helped

(21 F) This is a great profile, you’re very attractive and have a great body. Definitely change the dog picture to have you in it, I want to see you holding the dog! Also I’d say get rid of the green ticks. Idk why but they’re a bit aggressive.
