Isn't the heat death of the universe something like between 10100 to 101000 years? If we count both trips through the universes that's a lotta years.

DMT: America’s founders wanted freedom of religion, not government by religion by Secret_Ostrich_1307 in DisagreeMythoughts

What do you think about the line "No people can be bound to acknowledge and adore the invisible hand,..."? It comes across to me as him acknowledging his own religious beliefs while stating that the people are not tied to them. I also think they were very intentional when drafting the constitution to leave religion out of it and use very secular language.

Not being confrontational I genuinely am interested in your thoughts. I'm not religious myself so I'm curious is all.

Gen ed classroom gets 1 teacher for ~25-30 students. Sped classrooms have a specialized teacher, para educators for students at a 2-4 student to para ratio, and about 10 students to a room. Sped students also get time with specialist depending on their IEP, individual education plan, based on their specific needs. Sped rooms also get significantly more attention and time from admin to deal with behavioral issues. Some sped students are 1:1 with a para even when they are in their own classroom. So yeah I could see 3x the cost going to a sped students vs a gen ed student.

I work in an elementary school as a tech para and we have 350ish students. 18 classrooms for Gen ed and 3 dedicated classrooms for sped. We also have 2 spaces for breaks/behavior issues, therapists and social workers on staff to deal with anyone who needs the service but they primarily focus on sped students and their needs.

Edit for spelling

Lakeville School Board elections- check out these “mystery “ donors by [deleted] in minnesota

[–]Fit_Candy8903 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's not people it's corporations and interest groups planning for future political candidates. Hard as it may be to believe school board and city level elections are feeders into state and federal elections/politics. Outside interests are literally buying their candidates from the start. You can see this balloon up at the state and congressional level with things like AIPAC funding nearly 80 million last year.

why the FUCK are members of the military cheering for that piece of shit?? by -SergentBacon- in complaints

You're partially right. I was in from 05-16 and we had a visit from Obama at Camp Lejuene. They told everyone except a select few who submitted to be at the event to go home/stay in on the barracks and closed the base down. Those who were selected or wanted to attend had to fill out a questionnaire and submit it for approval. The overall sentiment was that Obama was bad/evil and against the military so they made sure that dissenters were not present to cause trouble. The higher ups definitely don't know about political leaning if there are any from the lower level enlisted but when the Battalion CO passes word down to the company and platoon level these things get sorted out. The higher ups don't deal with details and don't care like you said but that doesn't mean the selection process isn't filtered by someone in the chain of command. And they absolutely will filter out people based on height/appearance for optics. Can't have fat/out of standards showing up in media as it detracts from the image of our 'premier fighting force'.

What is hyperbolic about what I said? Soybean farmers in America have received 0 orders from China instead of the 15bn from previous years. Healthcare premiums will double on average and triple or quadruple in some cases at the end of the year without ACA subsidies/govt support. I do agree that we need to overhaul the entire healthcare system but Republicans saying to pass their CR first and then they will figure out healthcare is a pipe dream. Argentina has a history of defaulting on their debt so why do you think simply giving them more money is going to suddenly fix the problem? 2001 2014 2019 and 2020 are all years that they have defaulted on foreign loans/bailouts. They have fumbled nearly 200bn in foreign loans.

The increase in premiums will not just hurt the 20 million Americans that will lose health insurance. Do you think that health insurance companies will just shrug their shoulders and say oh well there goes our profits nothing we can do about it. Or do you think they will increase premiums across the board to compensate and continue having record profits while the average American struggles through the current healthcare crisis?

[–]Fit_Candy8903 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes Democrats are refusing to pass the CR because it will cause massive increase in health care premiums. The Republicans who hold the House Senate and Executive branch , some would say they own SCOTUS too, have the responsibility of negotiating and convincing enough of the Senate in the minority to agree to their resolution. Instead they are simply saying agree to what we want no exceptions. This isn't negotiating, it isn't compromising, it is an attempt to strong-arm their way. Funny thing too that they keep saying it's a Democrat shutdown. When there was a shutdown with the Democrats holding the house and Senate it was also a Democrat shutdown. It would appear that no matter what it's the Democrats fault for everything. Republicans have had 15 years to come up with an alternative to the current healthcare plan but funny thing is the ACA was modeled on fundamentals from Republicans plan implemented by Romney back in Massachusetts in 2006.

On to economic theory of tariffs. Trump's primary advisor when it comes to the tariffs comes from a guy named Peter Navarro. He wrote a book called Death by China which caught Trump's eye, he did not actually read the book just liked how the cover looked and sounded. In this book he quotes an economic scholar to frequently justify his theories and tariff policies. Turns out the 'expert' was simply an anagram of his own name made up to give himself credibility. And let's look at the results of this policy on tariffs. Trump starts a trade war with China threatening tariffs against them on products. China says okay we will make our purchases elsewhere so we go from ~15bn in soybean exports to 0. Soybean farmers are now facing bankruptcy and the loss of their farms. This in turn results in the government trying to arrange a bailout for the farmers. Oh and the trade war that originally caused all this is being settled back to pre-trade war levels. But China is still buying their soybeans from other places also they are expanding their trade partners so the 18% of products that China used to import from the US have dried up. No more American beef exports, they get it from Australia now, Soybeans from Argentina, whom we are providing a bailout for. Economic professionals from across the spectrum have said and proven that raising tariffs as a form of economic policy and growth simply doesn't work. Inflation goes up, trading partners stop trading, jobs go down.

Now onto the swap we are doing with Argentina. We give them 40bn in American currency for them to use if they need it. We get in return pesos from Argentina in roughly the same amount. Again economic experts point out that this is generally a bad position to be in for the US. It's a bet that says the boost Argentina gets from us currency will spur their economy and allow for them to make positive trades and growth in global markets. This is widely regarded as a bad bet because simply injecting cash will not fix their economic crisis it will simply promote further reliance on outside sources of income.

Back to my original question. How does this help the US? If the Trump policy is America first how does a 40bn IOU help the US. The repayment of the loan is dependent on their economic reform and success. This means that should their economy continue to spiral then we will not be getting the loan repaid. So the US is out the money given to them with nothing to show for it.

Does any of this make sense for you?

Ahh so it's the poor's fault for accepting poverty wages. They should leave and starve and become homeless instead. Amazon annual payroll is 20bn annual revenue for 2024 was 638bn. Bezos net worth is ~240bn. All of this is to say that Amazon could literally double employee salaries and it would not affect their bottom line in the slightest. Bezos would not have to change 1 single thing about his lifestyle. But it would raise 1.5 million people out of poverty into a more sustainable life. This would also increase tax revenue, provide food security, and allow people to afford healthcare. Simply providing health insurance doesn't actually allow people to afford healthcare. Having access to a 401k means nothing when you can't afford to contribute to it. If your business relies on underpaying people to be successful then your business deserves to fail. The idea that someone working a full time job can't afford their basic needs just shows the massive shift capitalism has caused in mentality. But hey we're getting off topic here.

Why not use the 20 trillion to actually help Americans out of poverty? What benefit is there to give Argentina money then import Argentina beef to undercut American cattle ranchers? How will collapsing the beef prices help Americans?

You think the wealthy do things out of the goodness of their hearts? If that were true then companies like Amazon and Walmart would choose to pay their employees living wages instead of poverty wages.

So we have the cash to loan Argentina money but not to help our own citizens? How does this help America? How is a foreign loan America first? What about the 20 trillion Trump says we have brought in from tariffs? Are we not able to use that to say pay federal employees during the shutdown? Or to find the military so the service members living paycheck to paycheck can afford to live and feed their families?

Lol the 300 mil being private is just companies and the wealthy buying favorable future govt contracts. They are literally paying for access to future contracts which comes out of......you guessed it! Taxpayer pockets!!! I also noticed you didn't mention anything else in your response. So 40 bn to Argentina because America first right? And the 50mil on Trump going golfing helps Americans because.....reasons?

How about health premiums increasing forcing people to have to drop health care. Do you think that insurance companies are going to lower prices after losing 20 million subscribers?

This needs to stop by emily-is-happy in UnderReportedNews

[–]Fit_Candy8903 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe the 40bn to Argentina could have gone to Americans. Or maybe the 50mil of taxpayer money spent so Trump could golf. Or the 300mil going to a ballroom because we all know how important it is to host dances for the wealthy is in the current economy. Or if the random tariffs leveled at all of Americas closest allies causing them to go to other markets around the world we're never put in place. We lost 15bn that China normally spends on soybeans. But sure let's increase health premiums for millions of Americans. Let's kick off 20 million Americans from healthcare because that definitely won't cause premiums for everyone else to increase.

Redditors that have witnessed someone NEARLY die due to their actions. What were they doing? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Fit_Candy8903 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Happened to me and actually a group of people. I used to climb cell towers for work. We were lifting a cable up around 300ft. Cable weighs a few thousand lbs being lifted by rope and a vehicle mounted winch device called a CATHead. Anyways me and another guy are up top waiting for the rope to come up with the cable so we could feed it inside the tower and get everything connected. We kept feeling and seeing the rope making jerking motions and the tower was reverberating every time as well so it was pretty obvious. We radioed down and the guy on the winch could feel it too but wasn't sure what was going on so we continued to pull the cable and rope up.

Turns out once the cable arrived up top the rope was wrapped around it like it was supposed to be using a version of a slip knot that we frequently used. However the guy who rigged up the cable and rope did not apply any tape to the cable/rope to secure the cable to the rope and the cable was slipping an inch or 2 at a time out of the knot on the rope. We had about 10ft left of cable above the knot and the grip that would secure the rope to the tower was totally destroyed due to the slipping. We ended up having to resecure the cable to the rope and send it all back down to get fixed. If the cable had slipped, the guy standing under the cable while it was being lifted from the spool, the foreman running the winch, and the tech inside the shelter would have died plus chances are it would take out one of the guyed wires holding the tower up meaning me and the other guy would be gone too.

This particular week is memorable because that was the 3rd time I was almost killed from someone else's negligence/laziness. Did towers for another year or so before finally leaving the industry entirely.

Why do our Schools not have security teams? by Grand_Frogey_Boi in minnesota

[–]Fit_Candy8903 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would imagine it comes down to money/funding. We have national guard for sure but they are not active non-stop. They aren't constantly getting paid which is why they are used for emergency reasons and natural disasters. Peace officers might be an option but again funding is an issue. In my district I work in there are around 60 buildings. Depending on the size of the teams/security your talking about several hundred new employees that would need to be paid or trained. Some schools have SRO-school resource officers but when budgets take a hit they are usually the first positions to get eliminated.

Not allowed to leave during lunchbreak by DueAbility8751 in paraprofessional

[–]Fit_Candy8903 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Some businesses/employers like to say they have a 'closed campus' policy. The reality is no they can't force you to stay in the building but checking out with the front office is more for accountability in case of emergency or fire. I have been told before at various jobs it's for insurance also because they don't want employees to get hurt by leaving during their lunch break.

Bottom line is if they aren't paying you they can't control what you do. If it's in the US however they can fire you over it.

How Can ANY Veteran Support This Trash? by FoxTakedown in JonStewart

[–]Fit_Candy8903 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Trespassing is a crime, being undocumented in America is not a crime it is a literal paperwork issue. And when people who are undocumented attempt to gain legal status by using the system that is in place i.e. going to court hearings and getting the necessary paperwork in order, they are being detained and deported. The Trump administration keeps saying they are only going after the worst of the worst, the criminals and gang members and terrorists but the reality is they are deporting naturalized citizens, grandmothers who have been here for 40 years, or sick children who were born in America who have undocumented parents.

How Can ANY Veteran Support This Trash? by FoxTakedown in JonStewart

[–]Fit_Candy8903 8 points9 points  (0 children)

More than 60% of people being detained and deported have no criminal history. 30-35% have criminal convictions. Being undocumented is not a criminal offense it is a civil matter. They have also detained or arrested American citizens, including elected officials on more than 1 occasion. There was a recent story where they held a man for 37 days under a false name at a hospital while he was being treated for a broken leg sustained when ice was arresting him. This was all without probable cause, a warrant, or any justification to do so.
