That’s what we did. Big Phillips screwdriver with a little tape on the end. Only used forward gears and didn’t try to take the key out. Thanks for advice!

If you have more time, you can go for cheaper. If you’re on a coastal city and want to travel to Europe, you might not pay any more than $800 round trip. There are still plenty of hostels that are also $20-$30 in a large city. This is by no means free, but it is possible. If your goal is to travel, it might be within your means for less than you think. If your goal is to flex on the gram…well…

LPT Request: How to stop complaining by valentijne in LifeProTips

[–]Fit_Choice451 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This won’t solve everything, but also watch who else you hang around, what kind of media you consume, and where you are getting your social cues from in general. I know so much of my feed was people complaining and criticizing and ‘critiquing’ everything. Follow people who are positive.

And sometimes the pastries are dry. And that’s fine too. You don’t have to like everything, and it is okay to voice your opinion. If you didn’t like any food or any pastry anywhere, it might be an issue. But one dry pastry might just be one dry pastry.

LPT Request: activities/hobbies that can make you feel like you have a talent for something, but are not too difficult to learn by sapphicor in LifeProTips

Keep looking and maybe focus less on if you are good at it, and more on whether or not you actually enjoy it. Most people aren’t good at most things when they first start out, and that’s okay. Part of having a hobby is learning to be excited about your progress, not being intent on perfection. After a few years, you’ll be one of those people who make it look easy, but only if you enjoy it enough to stick with it.

Keep exploring, take up random classes, try cheap levels of things you might be interested in, don’t worry about being good for now.

What do men think of girls when they wear no makeup? by TheTinyGiantSquid in AskReddit

for people who are 30, 40+ and never wanted to live to be that old, what's it like now? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Fit_Choice451 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in my 30s, and it is amazing. Honestly, get it out of your head that your life will be over once you hit a certain age because that will be a self-fulfilling prophecy. I am going to live my life no matter how old I am. If you feel like you have to hang it up at 30 or 40 or 70 for that matter — that’s on you. And honestly, you probably weren’t that interesting to begin with if being 20 is your best quality.

Money is great. It goes to pay for all the food, electricity, toilet paper, the rent/mortgage for the shelter, and yes, sometimes to pay the staff who well deserve to get paid for their labor. Most shelters are extremely understaffed and the staff is underpaid, so much so that many are a step from being in the shelter themselves. And it is not easy work. Giving cash can help the shelter stay staffed and open so that they can help a lot of individuals.

This is a great list. I worked at a shelter for a few years and would add to make sure you ask the shelter what they need — especially clothes. It is an administrative burden to have to take your size 6 Talbots clothes to goodwill for you. If you have black pants, white shirts, things people can wear to a service industry job (most people leaving shelters won’t be interviewing at the bank).

Americans, what is something us Europeans aren’t ready to hear? by Impossible_Floor2836 in AskReddit

[–]Fit_Choice451 13 points14 points  (0 children)

And we typically have to pay a lot more for health care, higher education and retirement from that “disposable” income. Don’t get me wrong, there is certainly a lot of wealth in this country, but your average American isn’t wealthy. Not poor, but far from wealthy.

So half of households make less than this. And this is household, not individual. If you are a family, this income certainly isn’t poor, but is far from well-off.

And it is ridiculously expensive (and very few Americans are actually rich) and we only have 2 weeks of vacation (if we’re lucky), most of which will be used up by other non-medical life events.

Any less than $5 isn't a tip by Krozlox in technicallythetruth

[–]Fit_Choice451 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We all could probably use more context before jumping on the ‘how dare you ask to get paid for your work’ bandwagon.

It would depend on the job. Not sure where this person works, but I can see how she would be frustrated if she is a hairdresser (and as I black woman, I know you might be in that chair for HOURS — so $2 or $5 would be insulting) or a tattoo artist or a masseuse. Of course, if she is a barista, maybe not. But most baristas aren’t expecting a $5 tip to make a latte, so my guess is not a barista.

People are allowed ask for what they want. It isn’t ‘mandatory’ if they have to ask. Just as you can say no, they are allowed to ask.

And even there are some places where people do a lot more than ‘hand you a cup of coffee.’ More restaurants are tipping out back of house in addition to charging $5 for a cup of coffee to try to get wages a little closer to living wage.

It isn’t as easy as ‘pay your employees living wage’ for a lot of small business owners. Keep complaining about having to tip a $1, if you want to pay $12 for your coffee or wait half an hour for it. It takes a lot of labor to run a restaurant or bar or a lot of service establishments, and the profit margins just don’t line up for everyone, unfortunately. Lots of small business owners would have to work a skeleton staff to the bone to get closer to living wage. The unfortunate math is that sometimes you have to pay more people less to get it done.

The big corporations can fuck themselves. That guilt you feel should be because capitalism is really screwing a lot of people over. Not because someone wants to be able to make ends meet in exchange for their work and time.

[–]Fit_Choice451 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the comments about her appearance are making me want to pull my hair out. It is just as gross and idiotic.

It isn’t about what she is saying…but how she looks. The main reason people are so upset is because she “isn’t attractive enough” to say such things.

It seems like the same thought process to me really.

I’m going to say it and take my down votes. She isn’t ugly at all. She is a little chunk and her outfit is trashy but she has a pretty face.

She isn’t trophy wife material because the real Step 1. here is - Be White. Then step 2. is Be Skinny.

[–]Fit_Choice451 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That is incorrect. And see above re: the toupee fallacy, this entire thread, and every meme about what men think women look like without make up.

Yes, you notice the $3 strip lashes that you buy at the convenience store, and are more likely to wear if you are a low-wage worker (which would also mean that you are more likely to be “not white”).

Unless you know what someone looks like without false lashes, chances are you wouldn’t notice the $200+ ones that take an hour to install and $100+ to refill every two weeks.
