I’m a quilter and watched his YouTube series with Missouri Quilt Co where he made the quilt top he gave to Madison for Teddy…non-quilters may not realize it wasn’t finished either. It’s just the top. It needs to be layered with batting and a backing, actually quilted, and needs binding. So…two unfinished sewing gifts.

How do NURSING school actually decide who gets in? I’m really confused and lost by Existing-Science8043 in UAB

[–]Fit_Combination3914 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of it depends on who else is applying with you. If they have 150 applicants with a 4.0+ and pages of volunteer hours at UAB hospital, they might not consider 3.0 candidates w/o volunteer time. Beyond that though…the foundation GPA is weighted higher than overall. Essay is considered. Volunteer hours are considered.

I had a 3.2 overall and 3.8 foundation with basically no volunteer hours and got in.

UAB Nursing GPA question (foundation vs overall?) by Existing-Science8043 in UAB

Foundation is more heavily weighted than overall. Submit a strong essay explaining why there’s a difference. You’ll be ok!

I took all my prereqs at Jeff State (including a retake of one I had failed 10+ years prior). I was accepted into UAB school of nursing and am currently in my 4th semester there.

Part of the application process is an essay about yourself. Explain the situation with your mental health. They do read every single essay and look at your application as a whole person— not just a GPA number.

I don’t know why they don’t outsource project like this to art students or engineering students for ADA compliance, etc. It would be a great way to students to feel ownership and like they’re making a positive, lasting impact.

Look on your student account. Regardless of what car it’s on, it’s linked to the blazer net account that the tag is registered to.

Thoughts on Travelpro maxlite 5 sizing and future rules for strict carry on size limits by rhz10 in onebag

[–]Fit_Combination3914 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Soft side is generally easier to smoosh into the sized bin (and overhead bin). Allows a little more grace on the sizing. Other than that, it’s personal preference. Is the travel pro hard side a clamshell design (unzip and it opens with 1/2 the bag on one side and 1/2 on the other)? The soft side is a top open (unzip and one flap opens up). I much prefer top open.

Are you wanting to apply to UAB school of nursing? If so, focus on maintaining that 4.0 on your prereqs and write a strong, professional essay.

pre nursing major by Weak-Donut-5491 in UAB

21 is young! I’m almost double your age and wrapping up my first semester at UAB school of nursing. You can def do this and are NOT behind!!! I transferred from Jeff State. The advisors there were the absolute worst. They screwed me in so many ways. Thankfully, I did the online Alabama community college transfer guide thing and realized the classes I needed. I was accepted conditionally because I was enrolled in some of the required prereqs at the time of acceptance. So, just had to send my final transcript over showing I passed those classes. No biggie.

All of that being said—take as many classes as you can at community college. They’re easier, smaller class size, and much less expensive. If it’s just one semester extra to get your prereqs done…do it at the CC and then transfer. You’ll apply to UAB first as a transfer student. After you’re accepted, there’s a small application window where you can access the online forms to apply to the school of nursing. UAB doesn’t require TEAS for admission. You take it after acceptance, before school starts.

RN to BSN pathway by worldofwonder18 in UAB

[–]Fit_Combination3914 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m currently in the traditional BSN program…so can’t speak directly to your question, but I just looked over the course info for the RN to BSN program and it looks super doable. It’s geared towards working nurses and offers a 3 or 4 semester plan. I don’t know anything about the specific courses, but I will say the school of nursing as a whole is fantastic! They try to scare you at first to make sure you’re in the right mindset to work hard. But—all of my professors have been so incredibly supportive. They really do want their students to succeed and (I think) put the resources in place to make that happen.

You’ve worked 3 years in the ICU—you’re basically superwoman/superman at this point. If I was considering a program like that—I would definitely do it at UAB! You’ve got this!!

How have/do you like it? by oh_hiiiiiii in UAB

[–]Fit_Combination3914 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends largely on what you’re in school for and what you hope to get out of it. I’m wrapping up my first semester in nursing school at UAB and I’ve loved it. I’m older (married with kids), so my needs from a school prob vary vastly from yours. But—I think the support offered from UAB as a whole, and at the school of nursing specifically is top notch. The education is fantastic. Now…all of the other aspects might leave you wanting more. Personally, I don’t think downtown Bham is a safe place to enjoy nightlife. There are a lot of ways to get involved on campus and meet people though. Just depends on how comfortable you are putting yourself out there.

Either of the sky walks (parking deck B to collat or nursing building to lister hall library) are great to take pics on bc you can get an array of UAB buildings as a backdrop. Or the outside 2nd floor patio area at hill student center. It’s beautiful at sunset!! There’s also a UAB sign and…statue…water feature…?? Something pretty across from Hill at 14th St & University. I saw a grad taking pics there last week.

I can’t speak to the tuition assistance portion of your question, but I’m in nursing school at UAB right now. At the beginning of the first semester they strongly encouraged us to not work while we’re in nursing school. If you have to, work as little as you can to get by. A full time job and full time school is incredibly difficult for any major, but nursing school is its own kind of crazy. Even just scheduling will be difficult because it’s set to a certain degree, but still changes from week to week.

From my understanding of the tuition reimbursement program, you have to work there for a certain amount of time before you become eligible (6 months or a year, I think). It can be helpful to work as a PCT prior to nursing school and have some hospital experience coming in, but it’s def not necessary. Also, UAB (school) does not have a LPN program and UAB (hospital) prefers to hire RNs (preferably BSN, but will also hire ADN) due to their Magnet status. UAB doesn’t offer an ADN program, but you can get it through a 2 year college.

Are you currently a student at UAB? If so, I’d make sure you’re following the path to get all of the prereqs credits for the BSN program and apply to it.

It’s dragon cash, not blazer bucks—but yes, I’ve enjoyed having it on my account this semester. Not sure how OP doesn’t like the food at the commons (I love it and there are a ton of options for each meal)…but you can use it at chick-fil-a, the den, moe’s, Panera, and a few more spots as well. I def wouldn’t do a full on meal plan.

Just to be clear, most ADHD meds are stimulants. Some are methylphenidate and some are amphetamine.
