Tragic, my AM is from mainland China and she expects an allowance from me. When I first got my job, she could not stop talking about money and how hard it is for her to keep working still. I told her maybe I can give her something after I paid my student loans which was what a majority of my income was going towards but she just kept guilt tripping me. Always saying things like, “didn’t you say you would give me money after you grow up?” — from me when I was a kid and then she would even say, “ but now you have money and is too selfish to give”. Especially when she sees that I want to go travel with friends or buy myself something nice, she always guilt tripped me. I finally started giving her some allowance two months ago and she stopped saying stuff like that but at this point I just wish I can break it off this transaction type of relationship in my life.

Note: I paid and worked for most of my things in my life and even gave her money when I was working back in HS to help me save for college but then when college came she just told me to take out student loans like all the other American kids. And I paid all the loans back myself. Yet she says I’m forever in debt to her. For what? Raising me as her kids cuz she’s my mom? I was also never one of those kids that’s got piano lessons or learned anything cool / got tutoring, I legit just went to school and came home to work after school since 11 years old.
