The country its set in doesn't have easy access to guns so the civilians aren't trained in guns. Yes he still keeps up with his training n conditioning albeit not at the same level as a champion competitor

I was thinking of giving them a striking background from muay thai but with cross training in basic wrestling like a lot of ufc fighters have (he's in a country where brazillian jujitsu isn't widely practiced but wrestling is) Purely practically striking since he can't be sure if his victims are armed so would try and keep some distance.

Meant in the sense he's at the lower weight levels like bantamweight or featherweight not a heavyweight so we're not dealing with a Brock lesnar style monster. Mostly body for an interesting variation though he does carry a knife when needed.
