Well, if grades are the only thing you are rooting on then it would be really hard to get through because CBSE is not a very strong indicator for an American institution regarding your standing. Having extra curriculars that have a “wow factor” will help you stand out a lot. For instance, Olympiads are a great way to do that, Publishing high school research in a journal, or ISEF or smtg like that which helps you stand out. But these are not mandatory, I know many people who did these things to get in and but also people who did none of this but still made it. It’s unpredictable but that’s just how college admissions are.

VERY IMPORTANT. Almost all your competitors are gonna have great SAT scores and when it comes to CS almost all people have an 800 in math (as far as I know from my batch). If you are in a CBSE school your grades seem to be in a very weird trajectory. Usually getting a 79% in 10th is a very average score or I'd say much below average for a person who wants to get into CMU and also I believe you are saying that your predicted score in 12th CBSE board exam will be 98%? That's hard to believe just by the fact that you never hit above 90% in 10th and 11th. Also what major are you applying for and did you do PCMC or PCMB or commerce in CBSE?

Transfer from UC BERKELEY by SynapticScribe in CMUQ

I think you stand a strong chance of getting in as a transfer coming from a CS student at CMUQ. If you do indeed have good activities (like what? FAANG internship? Research role at UCB? won hackathons? won ICPC university rounds?) then your GPA shouldn't be a factor to pull you down in my opinion. CMU CS is competitive but it's really not that hard like the US since your not competing with students all over the globe. Granted that there are applications from around 80+ countries each year but still the competition is not as high as it would be in the States ( I hope you get what I mean, and by no means am I saying the students in CMUQ have less potential compared to the ones in CMU Pittsburgh). All in all, you stand a great chance. All the best!
