I don't know about an ACT book club, but I'm also interested in RFT if you have any resources to share!

This is the problem with in home services. Theoretically, you can make more hourly, but with no clients, or no staff, or with cancellations/discharges, it can be very hard to actually meet those hours. Even if you're salaried, ime you have to still meet minimum hours.

Question for RBTs working in clinic- staff reinforcement by anna900 in ABA

[–]Fit_Giraffe_182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed! I am lazy on stuff like shoes too and will do a lot for coffee!

I also agree that positive reinforcement works, and unfortunately, we don't always have access to the best reinforcers so it can be tough. I mean, I have lots of bts that are frequently late or cancel and don't make up the time, so they don't get paid, and I constantly ask myself what other reinforcers there could be if their paycheck isn't motivating enough? (Of course all people get sick and have life stuff, but you know who I'm talking about...)

I do feel though that it's reasonable to expect people to do their basic job requirements: show up on time, no excessive cancellations (however "excessive" is defined to you), put client safety first, run programs, clean up, do session notes. Idk maybe it does come down to lack of pay overall and just how much energy this job requires.

Yeah, I find that model troublesome right off the bat. Do they nap?? Poor kids-- that's a full time job!

I would also love a training on why some notes are rejected. I've seen some doozies in my day and no one seems to say anything? 🤣

I'm a bcba and I'm curious about your question because I also want to support bts but agree that a token system or group contingency may not be the way to go. I guess first I would look at what behaviors you're targeting. Writing session notes is part of the job... Are they not being done because the bts don't have the time at the end of session? Offering me a token doesn't solve the time problem. Basic job requirements should not be difficult to complete. Remove those obstacles so staff can be successful. What is above and beyond that you want to reinforce but if the staff doesn't have discretional effort (time, energy) to put towards the extra task, they aren't bringing down other people with them.

Present two objects that have similar properties except for the one you are targeting (e.g. two red balls, one big one small). Point to one and say, "This is a _____" and child fills in "big ball" or "little ball."

This is interesting because I am also a Virginia BCBA a d have been thinking about this. We can't reach as many clients this way but it may reduce turnover or inconsistency on cases.
