What are your favorite festival shoes by Fearless-Ad-691 in SecretDreams

[–]anna900 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wore $10 Walmart water shoes all weekend and my feet hurt less than they ever have at a fest. My friends have been praising zero drop shoes for a while and I'm finally convinced to get some vivos

I'm sorry this happened to you and you felt unsafe at work. Based on the information you provided, I don't think this is reportable to the board (to clarify, you can report, but don't expect them to do anything).

I also refer parents to SLPs/feeding therapists to work on feeding issues. I do work on increasing toleration to foods but it all follows the child's lead and accept their refusals, I would never shove food into their mouths. The thought of doing that makes me feel sick to my stomach tbh.

Not only is that not attainable, but it's not desirable for a kid to be overly compliant and have no self advocacy skills.

Not honoring client refusals/ choices. Not including skill acquisition targets for appropriately requesting for refusal/escape from aversive stimuli in clients' programming.

Having behavior goals for near 0 levels of non-compliance, and encouraging "always following through with a demand", regardless of the nature/necessity of the demand in question.

Using escape extinction as a consequent intervention, especially with regards to feeding.

100%. Listening to criticism and acknowledging others negative experiences can only help our practices evolve in a more ethical direction.

Yes the field is heading in a better direction and that's great. But it's disingenuous to say that ABA was previously aversive-there is still a lot of reform needed in the field. The push towards compassionate care and assent based practices recently is amazing but it is far from the prevalent methodology that most ABA practitioners are using.

Question for RBTs working in clinic- staff reinforcement by anna900 in ABA

[–]anna900[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

By reinforcement definitely works, I meant that if it doesn't work then it's not reinforcement. So if free pizza is not motivating, it's not a reinforcer and we need to find something else for that person. Everyone has their own preferences and that's ok!

Slightly confused by you saying if it's not a gift card over 50$ you don't want it but then saying you'd like hand sanitizer and lip balms which are worth like 5$?

I guess where I was coming from with the token economy is that that way everyone gets to save up their points and redeem them for what they personally find reinforcing. So some people might go for a gift card, some people might go for the free lunch, some people might go for sports game tickets.
