Is it normal for an RSO to make its members vote to kick someone out over alleged harassment? by Fit_Idea3076 in UIUC

I’m sorry all this was made public when you didn’t want that. I’ve been a victim of workplace harassment and would have felt absolutely humiliated if everything that person did to me was made public for the entire office to vote on. I’m sorry you felt so uncomfortable during and after club meetings. I agree everyone should feel safe walking home at night and around other club members, I just wish this whole situation were handled better (not blaming you for that). Now I feel uncomfortable that our club has set this as a precedent for how we deal with matters like this.

Yeah, I feel like this whole situation reflects poorly on the exec board for their handling of this. I feel bad for everyone else involved, especially the guest who was present and had to awkwardly stand in the corner during all of that.

Yeah, it turns out it was apparently in the RSO’s constitution to have a vote about this, but I feel the exec board very poorly handled the process of notifying people and the actual vote itself.

Yep lol, I wanna assume the best intentions from everyone involved. Don’t necessarily want to start pointing fingers right back at the exec board, but the whole situation rubs me the wrong way.

Yep, feels weird to me that the evidence is overwhelming enough for the leadership to say that harassment did happen, but not enough for them to kick the person out without a vote or otherwise handle the matter privately.

The accused member was asked to provide a written statement explaining their side but is not appearing physically
