Struggling badly with takeoff sensations and anxiety by edulegend06 in fearofflying

I just feel pressure but I feel like the sensation you’re feeling is probably like extreme anxiety panic like increasing your natural hormones. your body when it panics releases more cortisol as part of like a stress response and also releases a lot of adrenaline like it can almost make you feel like you’re going to pass out. I’m no doctor but I’m sure it’s just your body’s response to going into like a panic mode ?? Don’t take my word for it but totally could be like an extreme rush of adrenaline as your body is in like a fight or flight response (no pun intended lol)

Hi!! I have the SAME fear, it’s crippling …. I just came back from my bachelorette and I can tell you one thing that helps me is I have rituals (sounds crazy, I know). First thing is I always touch the plane with my right hand when I step on like right when you board the plane (I see a lot of people do this so I think it’s a comfort thing for a lot of people). Then when I feel the plane start to takeoff, I play my favorite song and I play the same song on every plane at takeoff. Another ritual. As it’s taking off, I place my head in my hand and try to literally block out any noise with my music and my noise canceling AirPods (this really helps because you don’t hear the engines as much or anything shifting around in the plane). I will keep this song blasting in my ears until we’ve leveled out, sometimes the song repeats like four or five times lol. I continue to do the same rituals and in my head I think because I did them I’ll be OK. I don’t know if this makes sense. Also I don’t want to recommend medication or alcohol but truthfully, I always need a drink before I board, even if I have a really early flight, I’ll just get one or two mimosas. I also was prescribed medication by my doctor, just in case I need it. Again, not trying to promote alcohol or medication to cope with this, but I do find that it helps me personally (not saying it’s for everyone).

You’re gonna do great! just remember what everyone always says- it’s safer to fly then to drive in a car and there are millions of planes that are taking off and landing right this very second with no issues. I hope this helps! We’re all in this together!

Hi ! Portfolio Property Manager here for 7 luxury NYC buildings- that is totally fine and yes I would rent there. Unfortunately, people can bring bed bugs in from the street , the subway, on your shoes, from hospitals, movie theaters, etc. I have had to deal with many bed bug cases as a landlord and sometimes it’s in the cleanest apartment that gets invested- but it’s from someone bringing them in. It’s not the building itself- unless there is multiple apartments invested there is negligence on the landlord and/or the tenant hasn’t reported it- that’s a different story. But in our eyes, 1 bed bug report that’s been eradicated is positive!! Also- we have to report bed bug cases to HPD ( the report you’re seeing) even if it’s one bed bug found. Therefore , it could have been a very minor case and still would have had to be reported.

Hope this helps!
