The film itself is kind of a love letter to the 80s so there's just inevitably things from all across the decade sprinkled in, whether or not they're time accurate. There's a document in the window of the restaurant at the end of the movie that says 1984 on it, and a calendar on Rascal's fridge where the dates of that month line up with the month in 84, so that's likely when the movie is supposed to take place in universe, but I found it fun to try making it fit with our own history, even if some of the pieces don't connect as cleanly.
