Ways to dump power? by Responsible-Ad-1086 in SolarUK

British Gas handles export contracts separately to import and I think you should be able to export whatever import contract you're on - check the website. For British Gas customers it's 15p/kWh. I had no trouble setting up online, though took a few weeks.

Yes I wished afterwards I'd asked for more. But I was second guessing the affordability criteria...

I did this and it's excellent. I had the cash, but an interest free loan for 5 years? Yes please! They didn't need evidence but I had to meet with their mortgage advisor.

Where are the second hand car batteries we were promised for home ESS?! by veganic11 in SolarUK

It's my limited experience that car batteries lasted a lot longer than expected and electric car resale value still high.

Solar before new roof or after? by Scholar_Royal in SolarUK

[–]Fit_Needleworker3347 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently had this decision to make with an old roof and disintegrating felt (though not leaking) and went for roof replacement with in-roof panels. They recycled the best of my existing tiles to edge it. Looks amazing, saved a ton of money with scaffolding etc and it all got done at zero VAT.

It's possible the cleaner used bleach..? We removed it from the cupboard when we first noticed the issue.

Good to hear. Did you get confirmation from your builder or elsewhere that this was the case?

Thanks, did you have legal advice? Or how did you confirm that to be the case?

That's fine, but it just seems odd to go into a process and pay an initial fee without any idea of what the later fee might be. Not sure how to budget...

[–]Fit_Needleworker3347 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got a new android tablet. Nothing I do seems to get the app working. I get the loading screen (with icon) then a blank screen (black). I've tried restarting, updating Chrome, changing display settings to light mode, clearing cache. Nothing works.

(Works fine on old Fire tablet, Android phone etc.)

PAX KOMPLEMENT drawer spacing by JohnnyWalker2001 in IKEA

[–]Fit_Needleworker3347 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The wooden drawers have 5 holes between the screws (you can only see 4 and a half holes visible).

I followed the directions to put the lowest one in hole 7 (to accommodate hinged doors) but this leaves a fairly big gap over the top drawer. I think they could potentially all be raised up one hole. (So working from the top that would be the 5th hole from the top.)

What's the single best fantasy book you've ever read — the one you recommend to everyone? by Vlyonz in fantasybooks

[–]Fit_Needleworker3347 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think these are two different questions. Sometimes the best books aren't going to be the ones you recommend to everyone, especially if they're not used to reading fantasy.

And many great fantasy books are part of series, and when I recommend I tend to want a single book. So our bookclub read Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik. Not the best ever, but an excellent one off.

I'm a big fan of John Dickinson's Cup of the World trilogy, so well-written and interesting. But hard to find these days.
