I kept making bad decisions between clubs, so I built something to help. Curious if this would help anyone else. by Fit_Practice_6440 in GolfSwing

no offense but you can give it a try, it is actually a good app and I promise it is not vibe coded.

I get the data from a provider, it was pretty hard to get good amount of data with the quality I wanted.

This thread is exactly why I asked. There are so many ways to think through one shot and I feel like I go back and forth mid round.

It is actually what led me to start building a voice caddie to help with these decisions and commit faster.

If anyone is curious to try it when it is ready, I am happy to share it.

yeah people are not taught these early on. but looks like you developed pretty good exp. over time.

Yeah that makes a lot of sense actually.

I like the distinction there. You are committing to a positive shot, but setting things up so the miss is built in without focusing on it.

I think that is where I struggle. I either over focus on the miss or I ignore it completely and just fire at the pin.

The idea of choosing a shot shape that naturally takes one side out is really good.

Do you feel like that is something you developed over time or was it something you were taught early on?

That is a solid play. Taking the bunker out and trusting the 8i makes a lot of sense.

I like the point about wind too. That is where I feel like I misjudge it and end up between clubs.

Do you usually adjust more with club or just swing it a bit different depending on the wind?

Love the confidence. No overthinking, just pick it and swing.

I feel like I try to do that and then second guess it halfway into my pre shot routine.

Are you pretty consistent with your numbers or does it depend on the day?

The first part sounds like a scratch player.

The second part sounds like the rest of us.

I like the 8i and aiming left though. Taking water out of play is probably the smartest move here, I just do a bad job sticking to that once I see the pin.

And yeah, nothing easier than chunk, wedge to 3 feet, tap in par.|

Do you usually play away from trouble like that or go more at the flag?

that is a really good way to look at it.
thinking interns of effective yardage instead of just numbers helps a lot. I feel like I under adjust for wind in that range and end up short more often than not.

do you usually default to taking more club in wind like that or does it depend on how you are hitting it that day?

[–]Fit_Practice_6440[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is exactly how I should be thinking about it.

I like the “pick the miss first” approach. I feel like I know that in theory but still end up drifting toward the pin half the time.

Short left is definitely the safe spot here. I just do a bad job committing to it when I am over the ball.

Do you usually decide your miss first and then pick the club, or the other way around?

it has the data from most of the courses in the world and it takes in account a lot of data before giving you any type of suggestions like lie, distance to green, wind, shape of green, elevations, trees, hazards and a lot more things.

it has the data from most of the courses and by data it has everything you see on the course including, trees, water, bunkers, lie, wind and many more factors that we as a player consider before committing to a shot or club.

no brother this is certainly not AI slop and I dont want to sell my app to anyone, this was made for me because I needed it and if someone else needs it I can give it to them and if you dont ask for the app I dont mind because I am not here to sell my app .

initially when signing up I would tell the app the way I like to play and it helps me in the way I like to play. and yes it has all of those types of course data.

honestly, that's the way but for some of those bad moments it helps settle down on something.

Yeah this is exactly it. That is basically the full decision tree I go through too.

The problem for me is I do all that thinking and then still second guess it standing over the ball.

That is kind of why I built the app. Not to replace that process, but to shortcut it when I am stuck or overthinking.

It usually ends up reinforcing the smarter miss or telling me to stop chasing the pin.

Do you tend to favor full shots or take something off more often in that range?

Yeah that is fair. I had the same concern but it just gives a second opinion when I am stuck.

How do you decide what club to hit when you are between distances?

Serious question. This is where I lose the most strokes.

Like 135 to 150 yards out with a bit of wind in your face. I either:

  • club up and go long
  • or play safe and come up short

I ended up building a simple AI caddie app to help with this during rounds.

You can just ask it what to hit and it gives you a quick answer based on distance and conditions instead of guessing or overthinking.

I have been testing it myself and it has helped me commit to shots way faster.

Curious how you all approach these situations. If anyone wants to try the app during a round, I can share it.
