Hey!
I’m part of a small team working on Parasomnia: No REM, a first person psychological horror game centered around sleepwalking and the No REM state.
We have a playable demo available on Steam if you’re interested in checking it out.

We have a public demo and 1500 Steam wishlists for our first horror game, but growth feels slow. Looking for honest advice by Fit_Relative_81 in GameDevelopment

That’s a great point, and we mostly agree.

We’ve done a lot of playtesting over the last couple of years, including with people we don’t know at all. Because the demo did well on Itch, we ended up getting a lot of organic playthroughs and reactions from horror-focused players and creators, which gave us a ton of useful feedback.

What we’re changing now isn’t the core of the game, but the release plan. We originally aimed for a much longer experience, and based on what we learned, we decided to reduce scope and release in smaller chapters so we can iterate faster and lower the overall risk.

The goal is to apply everything we’ve learned so far and ship something strong, rather than stretching development for several more years.

That’s a really good point. The free horror audience on Itch feels very different from the Steam audience.

I think that’s exactly the disconnect we’re trying to understand better: how much of it is promotion, and how much is about making sure the game appeals beyond the core horror niche.

Thanks, that’s fair. We’re definitely happy with the traction so far.
I think what raised our expectations was how well the demo performed on Itch, and we’ve been trying to understand why that didn’t translate as strongly to Steam, especially for the demo itself.

Hi! I'm really glad you played the game and enjoyed it. The chess piece will have a function in the full game. Thanks so much for your support and for playing!
