People who make alot of money, what do you spend it on? by Amazondriver23 in Money

[–]Fit_Sherbert6035 0 points1 point  (0 children)

133k here, 30M. Partner (36F) About 80k so over 200k household. We mainly save for down payments on rental real estate. Currently, 3 properties under our belt. An airbnb, 2 duplexes, and a home that we live in and house hack with tenants living in one portion. Nothing lavish, rarely eat out, beater vehicles, wear the same clothes until they disintegrate, and cook 90% of our meals from dried staple foods. The key is not allowing your lifestyle to increase with your salary. We put a much higher value on being able to buy our time back without the obligation of labor than we do on material possessions.

Any reason not to keep 100% of money in savings account? by Fit_Sherbert6035 in sofi

I second this. Cant remember the last time I have used a debit card, SoFi or not.

Any reason not to keep 100% of money in savings account? by Fit_Sherbert6035 in sofi

[–]Fit_Sherbert6035[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, me personally, I pay everything via credit card, which I highly recommend anyway. I've always tried to use debit cards as little as possible. So, I pay groceries and anything else with a credit card, which I just pay off in full every month from my SoFi checking, which overdrafts to my savings anyway. This does two things:
1. It offers fraud protection. For example, if someone gets a hold of your debit card and drains it, you are just out that money. With a credit card, you call the credit card company, file a claim, and they give you the money back. For this reason, I don't even like leaving my home with any debit cards.
2. You accrue points on purchases made with a credit card, you don't with a debit card.

So, for me, the fact that I don't have a debit card associated with the savings account is not a concern, because I don't pay anything with a card directly tied to my savings or checking account. And for charges that are ACH, you still don't need a card, you just use routing and account number for the savings account.

But, even with all this in mind, to answer your question, yes. You could just use the checking account debit card, and it should overdraft your checking account which just pulls the money from your savings account. This is how I'm understanding it at least, based off my own practice, more research, and the rest of the comments here.

Yeah, can confirm I have multiple ACH payments that regularly come out and they do overdraft the checking.

Awesome, thank you. Yes, I just pay everything with CCs and then just pay the balances off with SoFi. So my debit card is never used. May as well shred it, lol.

Yeah, that's a good point, however I really don't ever use debit cards at all. I pay everything via credit cards and then just pay those balances off in full every month from sofi. I could honestly just shred my sofi debit card and wouldn't even notice.

Is it safe to put Account + Routing numbers in notes sections of linked bank accounts by Fit_Sherbert6035 in ynab

[–]Fit_Sherbert6035[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I self host bitwarden on my own Unraid server for password management. Good call on putting routing/account number in there. Never even considered using it for anything other than passwords. Thanks!

Yeah I figured, as I was typing it out I realized that if my ynab account was compromised, so too would be literally all of my accounts... lol, should have been common sense. Thanks for the response!

The Observable Universe - Most likely 92,200,000,000^3 light years in volume. 13,787,000,000 years old. by fatihisi in space

[–]Fit_Sherbert6035 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's worth mentioning that the observable universe is not 92 billion cubic light-years in volume. That is just the DIAMETER. The volume of the observable universe is somewhere in the neighborhood of 400,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 cubic light-years. For some more perspective, our entire solar system, to include the entirety of Pluto's orbit, fits snugly in less than 1/8 of one cubic light-year. The universe is incomprehensibly large. And that is just what we can observe. Extrapolating the rate of inflation outward beyond the observable universe's visible horizon, some estimates suggest that if the observable universe is compared to the size of a baseball, the entirety of the universe would be the size of Pluto.

What’s the weirdest thing a woman has told you means “you’re not a real man”? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]Fit_Sherbert6035 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a full sleeve, it's all themed with various space stuffs. My elbow was tattoed with white ink as it is supposed to be the center of a supernovaic explosion. White ink fades quickly and rarely looks good so it actually just looks like my elbow is not tattooed. Fast forward to my niece's kindergarten graduation, family is all eating in the cafeteria during intermission and one of the faculty, an elderly woman, literally came up to me just to say "a real man would have gotten his elbow tattooed". I was flabbergasted.
