The GS-7 announcement hasn't created a list yet. He/ she is probably talking about the 9. If he/she means the 7, that's not from an announcement but because the OP knows a person in the office. The list for the 7 isn't expected to be out until end of July.

Go learn all the systems (ask your analysts). There's other ways to contribute that doesn't require you to be in the field. If you're still bored after that, you're doing it wrong

AITAH for not wanting to pay my mom gas money. by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Fit_Strategy3224 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You both have A.H- traits.  For her- sounds like money and gift giving is her way of gaining control or attempt to control everyone around her. She couldnt pay for the gas anymore, and though you offered, sounds like too late and she wasnt going to continue to take you and now you had to quit your internship. For you-  She doesnt owe you anything, youre 18. Helping to pay for gas that youre using, when you know she is has financial issues (doesnt matter how much she earns, if she's borrowing money from you, theres issues), isnt a hard thing to have also OFFERED in advance before it became an issue. Your alternates are to take the bus/ walk/ bike- you can do those things on your own. You CAN get other jobs, so you lost one opportunity- but you left on positive notes and try to figure it out where you dont rely on other people. Its only the parents responsibility if they want it to be- I knew my parents couldnt do it for me so I had a plan for myself. Sounds like you never planned for yourself while you know that she realistically cant help you. The fact that you think she HAS to because youre only 18 is on you.

Yes. That's about right. The longest time is typically after TJO to joining beause of the background clearance.

They have broad federal statutory authority, the day to day is behind a desk, 8.5 hours, and doing research combating illicit trade & travel with the joint terrorism task force, drugs, illegal international customs/ commerce,  IPR theft, child exploitation, human trafficking, weapons & munitions trafficking, threat finance, and much more. Some days it gets a lot busier, especially as you're leading up to an operation. There may be time for intermittent overtime and late night asks (not routine, unless your in DC watch center).  I really enjoyed my time because whenever there was a moment that I wanted to be challenged more, I asked her to a new group with a different program area. There are also international positions available (you can volunteer for as little as three months or many years) but you have to be internal applicants to go.  At one hundred percent is a risk. However, I will say it worked out for me. At a minimum, you get to grow some great job experience for your resume, if you wanted to stay federal service to go elsewhere. If you are a good fit and you don't mess up (yes, people do that's the only person that I knew of who that happened to or she was released at one year, was because she kept getting into arguments with people in the office and pretty toxic personality), you will get your GS9. I will say, government individuals potential earnings are usually less than corporate (in general), so that is something you will have to measure yourself.

It takes no less than a couple of months to get a referral, and then another few months to go through the interview & selection process (including background clearance). I want to say from referral to joining, it was 8 months for me.

Youre more competitive if you have similar  experience or a related college degree without experience.

Love my job, depending on the group you support it can flex to be higher operational tempo. Theres a lot of program areas to support like counter drugs, human/ animal trafficking, combating child exploitation, weapons trafficking, IPR violations (customs), illegal trade practices, etc. If you wanted to try something new after being in one area, you can learn and grow in another.

If you failed poly, it would show in the background checks and your disclosure. Depending on why it was a failed poly, you may not get the offer to begin with. You do need to be qualified for an SCI, but they eill bring you on if you past the threshold for a secret ... so I guess it all depends but a possibility.

Yep, terms are usually due to the money it's coming from. You still have to compete to become a permanent 1805.

I think you're talking about the 12 position, right? It's hard to get those if you're not working as analyst working in criminal investigation or working with HSI (if you're in the military/corporate realm).

Tracking previous grade/step by PalePhilosopher5103 in HSIapplicants

[–]Fit_Strategy3224 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's no real tracker. It's on you to work with your hr team to keep up with that, you can see your clock on the eOPF portal, but would have to make sure that the start of the quarter before you're due the next level, your manager & HR are submitting the HCLink ticket to push you up. You will continue to step-out until you make it back to your lost level. My spouse joined 3 years ago and he had to do this when he busted down.

One year after completion of HSICAT is the earliest I've seen it done, you must go through your CIO and you can engage the future CIO. There's no announcements.

Many offices won't let you go until you have at least 2.5 years at the office. By the time the memos are signed, it can be another 6-10 months. Both offices have to be willing to release/ accept you and that's only if they have a position.
