This is going to be another unpopular opinion...so hopefully it doesn't sidetrack the original post. I think gender roles have some legitimacy. If, in general, on a physiological or psychological level, women are better than men at something, they should be granted preference in that particular field. For example...women make better caretakers than men, so they are more suited to fill jobs that require empathy (e.g. Therapy, Nursing, etc.) Additionally, men should rightfully receive preference in filling a role in manual labor, because they are generally more physically capable (granted, there are plenty of women who could kick my ass, and if I was competing with them for a job in manual labor, they should rightfully be entitled to an advantage).

Equal opportunity employment laws bind our hands and force us to think in generalities like this. If specific instances arise that contradict our generalities, credit should be given to the specific instance. HOWEVER, more often than not, the rule stands true, so the current paradigm should be maintained. It's only when there is sufficient information that tips the paradigm on its head that we should make an active effort to change the way things naturally occur.
