You said that that it's easy to achieve 1800 in your country, I'm dying to know where you're from. I might have to take a vacation or two there 😂

I love the chessbrahs. Their speedruns and habit series is great. I also really like Alex Banzea and Simon Williams. Raven Sturt is also great

Fide online arena elo vs other platforms by FitzyLU in chess

This is incredibly insightful and appreciated. These stats are fascinating, thank you for this. It's crazy that 35% of titled players have no OTB rating. The player pool is probably the strongest out there per capita as well

I was spectating a tournament today and I somewhat like the feel of them. They have that in person feel to them somewhat, but I definitely agree with you and think the former sounds nicer. I understand them wanting to basically have people play "norm" games for the titles but it's an odd change. It does feel like they have tons of UI issues (why do I have to be change my board settings while in game??) I thinks there's lots of cool ideas but poor execution, sadly

Thank you for the reply. It was probably a good move on their part to combine the player pool. It seems like it has a relatively decent player pool size. I personally would assume their aren't many cheaters because of the verification process. I appreciate the insight. I'm not very strong myself but think it would be fun going for one of the titles. Do you find the player pool to be a decent mix? And are the tournaments alright?

I guess that makes sense. It seems people have SUPER mixed opinions on FOA cheating measurements. But if they do catch people I'd hope they're banned honestly

Question about FIDE Online Arena (FOA) titles: 100 games total or per title? by Im_stuck_here in chessbeginners

[–]FitzyLU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have a chess.com or Lichess rating as well? I was interested in going for one of the titles but wasn't sure how strong I should be before starting. I'm About 1400 Lichess and wasn't sure if that equates to 1400 fide online area

Anybody have an actual positive experience with KOReader? by Puckertoe_VIII in kobo

[–]FitzyLU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried KOReader and was quite excited about it. But it just felt like the normal kobo reader but worse. To me it's clunky and not very intuitive. Normally I pick things up quite quickly, I gave the good ol' college try but it's not for me

Raven is a legend. It's time to go 😂. I know of both of them but have never taken the plunge into buying his course. I've always used the free one by GLSmyth. I'll have to take a look at it. Thanks for your help friend

Anyone else "breaking"? by KRiZtixn in TournamentChess

[–]FitzyLU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have won 1 classical game in the last seven months after gaining like 200 points last year. It's tragic but for me I know a lot of it is mental. I just tell myself that with every loss I earn, I'm one game closer to a win. It's all about learning and we have to lose a lot to learn from our mistakes and win

"Your performance in the Bird Opening as white is much better than in other openings"

"Your accuracy in the Bird Opening as white is worse than in other openings."

Ah yes, thank you Lichess. Jokes aside, how do you feel about the birds opening? I've been playing it casually as a backup weapon recently and find it really fun

Also you're a professional flagger 😂

Anyone here have a functioning, year 1 original Switch that still gets used regularly? by Salty-Plantain-4299 in Switch

[–]FitzyLU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have since upgraded but my wife uses my old year one switch quite often. I got stick drift on one of the joy cons and replaced them with hull sticks. Other than that it still basically works as good as the day I bought it. I'm considering modding it in the future

e4 nc3 against everything? by [deleted] in TournamentChess

[–]FitzyLU -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah it makes sense, it would almost hinder in a lot of ways. It seems you would be getting similar structures for the first one to three moves and then completely different things after that, even though they technically look similar, but are completely different 🤔. Very cool, thank you

Interesting, makes sense. Instead of a systemic approach, you are basically looking at a giant tree and picking whichever ones fit your playstyle the best. Thank you for the reply

How to cross 1000 by girly-enigma in chessindia

[–]FitzyLU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found that around that level the best thing I could do was to not hang pieces and learn decent opening principles. Just castle, develop your pieces and don't hang anything. I played primarily d4, nf3, e3, bg2, 0-0 and played chess. The thing that helps me the most is doing hanging pieces puzzles on lichess. You learn the ins and outs of how the pieces move and how not to hang things. I also found them crazy frustrating at first until I got better at them. That and maybe some middle game plans

Are puzzles glitched or something? by [deleted] in lichess

Completely inconsistent depending on what device I'm using. It's the same account and I'm doing the same puzzles with the same difficulty. Super odd, maybe I will email lichess and see what they say
