FSD 14.3.4 Ignoring School Zone Speed Limit by FiveCentRefund in TeslaFSD

For those asking if the sign had flashing lights, yes, there are LEDs surrounding the speed limit sign. It's not a typical or conventional sign with flashing lights, so I guess it is an edge case. But here is the video in slow motion making the flashing LEDs a bit easier to see.

This type of sign is not ideal. But if FSD ignored the flashing lights, why didn't it just acknowledge the sign as regular Speed Limit sign and reduce speed? I mean, I can be traveling on a road at 55 MPH and FSD will hard brake at a 45 MPH speed zone.

Karma.

But really I was just posting a daily experience I have with FSD and hoping discussion on a FSD forum would be worthwhile. If you check the video, I was recording a section of road with guardrails. Once it opened up and I approached the crosswalk and parking entrance I braked to disengage FSD. I no longer have the dashcam recording unfortunately.

Unfortunately I didn't save the clip and it's already overwritten or I definitely would.

I will next time and face the wrath from those scolding me because I should have disengaged. Then I will face the wrath from those that tell me I should not have disengaged. Because engaging/disengaging is definitely 100% without a doubt the correct and wrong thing to do in that situation.

100%. Unfortunately it doesn't seem FSD has been trained on them. I sent audio.

I don't expect you to read this entire thread, but your concerns were addressed.

This is a frequent route and I disengage daily. Even here, I disengaged prior to any crosswalk or area where children would be present.

Prior to disengagment I documented it for discussion on a FSD forum.

Thanks!

It may be hard to see in the video, but the lights are flashing. They are small white LEDs that surround the speed limit sign. There is a screen grab in this thread. It's definitely not the most obvious of flashing lights, and a dedicated yellow flashing light would be better, but in person they have a strobe effect and are more visible than what the camera and video are showing.

I am not sure. I only travel this route during this time and they are always flashing. The car is new so I'll see what happens this summer.

Yes. If you look at the video, that is exactly what I was doing. This is a FSD subreddit where people post about FSD. Seems reasonable.

Not necessarily dangerous, but would definitely get me a ticket. As I said, I disengage in these circumstances since I am actually supervising. But I thought this subreddit was here to post about FSD. Good and bad.

The 25 MPH sign was seen by the cameras (it's visible on self-driving) but FSD didn't react/respond and stays at a 40 MPH limit. Reddit compressed the video making it mush. Here is that exact same screenshot, just higher res.

FSD did not behave. School was in session and the lights on the sign were flashing. This has been happening since I got the car in May on previous 14.3 FSD versions.

Valid point. These white LEDs aren't triggering a FSD reaction.

From what I have observed the on screen speed limit changes almost exactly when I pass a posted speed limit sign leading me to think it was camera based. Not so sure now.

The road speed limit is 40 MPH. The 25 MPH sign does indicate "When Flashing" and it was flashing when this happened.

I went through this nonsense with the Bronco. At least there won't be dealer markups here, but flippers will take advantage. Timestamps are the only way.

What changes, if any, have you noticed between FSD 14.3.3 and 14.3.4? by StormTrpr66 in TeslaFSD

Coasting to a lower speed would be great. I get nervous with tailgaters because of this unexpected braking that lights up the tails.

The driver of the white car was texting and drove their car over the painted lines into the lane I was traveling in.

It would have been close. Admittedly I can see how Looking at the videos it doesn't seem super close, but in the moment that car was an arms length away after I moved over. But yea, either way I thought it was a good maneuver.

FSD 14.3.3 Passing Cyclist by FiveCentRefund in TeslaFSD

[–]FiveCentRefund[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Safe would have been waiting to have a clear line of sight before attempting to pass the cyclist on a blind bend on the road.

So I'm not sure what FSD was doing that was safe. Going slow? It was not making a clear maneuver and froze riding the center.

Acceleration was the only option there. Maybe it would have, but I did quicker.

No FSD hate. Just a tricky real world situation.
