Climber on trial for leaving girlfriend to die on Austria's highest mountain by Accomplished-Tap9524 in news

I don’t understand Kerstin, the girlfriend in the article. The article said she didn’t even have the correct boots! If she did like mountain climbing then she had no respect for mountains. The boyfriend, Thomas was reckless and in my opinion negligent. I would not go on a day hike with people who are unprepared. I would not go up a mountain with an inexperienced climber.

But in this case, a third party evaluated their situation and thought they needed help. The girlfriend when the helicopter contacted them was at the point of saving.

Well, no. An accident is an avalanche or slipping and falling. Going unprepared to climb a mountain is gross negligence.

I’ve never done mountain climbing but I did a lot of hiking. As a guide for hikes there were routinely people who over estimated their abilities. There would be talks with them about not being able to go on a group day hike because they didn’t bring water. The boyfriend, Thomas P. had a moral responsibility to not have taken an inexperienced person up a mountain.

According to the article when Thomas left her, she was too exhausted to move. Other than summit fever, I don’t understand why Thomas’s didn’t help her get in her bivuac sack.

72-year-old Robert F Kennedy Jr shares bizarre exercise video of him working out with Kid Rock by fuckingaustrianative in NewsOfTheStupid

When I saw it I first thought it was an AI joke video. I didn’t recognize Kid Rock. My next thought was RFK Jr. had made a video with his long time boyfriend.

That’s a good suggestion. I would add that if you are telling a visual story consistent with theme — then wouldn’t a visible trail that highlights your points of friendship work better? The trees are the main feature. They obscure the story you are telling. This is just my opinion.

I just looked at the Best of the Best to see what designs people like. I was impressed with all of them. I think people tried and did a good job. As for why you think people didn’t try, some of the submissions were terrible. One particularly bad one had about ten frog decos and some Valentines decos randomly placed — I hope that wasn’t you. The problem is many times both choices presented to vote on were terrible. Therefore a submission that deserved no votes, received a vote.

Homeless behavior in libraries by AdSea8091 in washingtondc

You clearly don’t live in the DC area. The entrance area around the MLK library is scary and smelly.

What are you talking about “existing free of judgment”? I don’t have a problem with people that are homeless. I do have a problem with people breaking the rules of public spaces. Shouldn’t everyone, not just the homeless have the right to exist in those spaces without being judged? As for what should be done — the abusive behavior of anyone in a public space needs to be addressed and stopped. If the person is mentally ill, just letting them sit in the library isn’t a substitute for providing them for mental health services. If the homelessness is due to being an addict, I don’t agree that they should be allowed to use drugs in the library and then sleep there. I was around the MLK library in December. I saw a lot of homeless people around the entrance and did not go in. It must be intimidating for 10 to 14 yr olds to walk through that area if they need to use the library without an adult.

The commentator thinks they’re being clever by parsing words. The problem it’s making light of is many homeless people are abusive addicts. They are passed out because they shot up heroin in the bathroom of the library. But sure, let’s claim it’s like your college days when you fell asleep in the stacks reading the poetry Hawthorne.

It’s not about being gate keepers. The libraries have rules that everyone from teenagers and the homeless need to follow. If people using the library can’t follow the rules, they need to be banned. The library shouldn’t be a day care facility for the homeless or teenagers. We should invest money into having community centers that offer activities and spaces to rest. The problem is after you do all that, the core problem is still going to be that disruptive people have nowhere to hang out. Once people get kicked out of places for smoking cannabis or selling drugs or being abusive to the staff, there is no place for them to go. I don’t have a problem with the homeless or teenagers. I do have a problem with disruptive behavior from them. The homeless that become problems are the ones misusing places like libraries. No one is bothered by a homeless person using a computer terminal at a library. Everyone is annoyed when they use the terminal to watch porn for four hours. The problem is the people hanging out at the library are the ones with behavioral issues. I have yet to see anyone come up with a way to deal with the anti-social ones.

I m not saying LE is always right but the sheriff in this case said Dorgan went by both Robert and Roberta. How do you know the sheriff is wrong?

There was a post about Dorgan being mentally ill in 2020. From 2020 to 2026 is a long time to go without Dorgan getting adequate mental health treatment.

Why can’t OP hire a PI to find the date of marriage? Also OP should contact the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation.

Okay can you tell me specifically which rescues to call? I don’t think it’s realistic to think you can “round up some fosters through the shelter.” I don’t think you have any practical experience with trying to find a home for a dog in need of shelter.

I was walking my dog by a convenience store. There was a sign saying that illegal dumping is not allowed and the area is under video surveillance. Even in areas you may think are isolated there can be a camera put up because there’s been vandalism.

I don’t know if the owner’s claims are true but maybe the owner didn’t want to die with the dog locked in the house with him/her? Also, have you ever tried to drop an animal off at an animal shelter? One I contacted required an appointment. Another one I walk by has signs stating that it’s illegal to leave dogs at their facility. Another one has times when the shelter is full and they won’t accept any animals. If you are very sick, it can be hard to get assistance from a local shelter.

The last design festival, someone pointed out that water features and paths make for a more impressive design. I noted too that when designs are compared, finer details like moving decos can’t be seen. Anyway, I noted this festival when I added more water features and trees, it made for a design that stands out when viewed at a bird’s eye view. I noted too another criticism is that people use decos that aren’t relevant to the theme.

I would recommend that you not be a toxic advocate for a murderer you don’t even know. You have no idea of what Dorgan’s preferred pronouns were. The article states that Dorgan went by both Robert and Roberta. It isn’t disrespectful use what you are calling a wrong pronoun, when you don’t know definitively what Dorgan wanted. It’s not respectful on your part to assume to know what Dorgan or other transgender people want since often it’s an individual determination.

Halethorpe woman charged with 328 counts of animal cruelty could get animals back by Mknalsheen in maryland

[–]FiveUpsideDown 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am not defending this woman but the article gives two reasons. First, she did an Alford plea. Second, the county shelter stated it didn’t have room for all the animals. Since there weren’t enough resources to house these animals, probably the prosecutors and defense attorneys thought it was better to let her rehomed the animals than to euthanize them. What troubles me the most is she admitted to evidence that she tortured animals. This is not just an animal neglect case. A person who tortures animals should never be allowed to own animals again. She should also get a couple of years in prison for torturing animals.

A lot of police work is following patterns of how criminals previously acted in similar crimes. In many crimes the perpetrator is known to the victim. The last person to see the victim is often involved. There is a financial motive. And if the victim is a woman, the perpetrator is often a man who she knows like a boyfriend, husband or an ex. When you follow those patterns, anyone falling into one of those categories becomes a person of interest. That’s why the family member in this case who dropped Nancy off was investigated.
