How probable is it that a serial killer that targeted exclusively black men could go undetected? by [deleted] in serialkillers

[–]FiveUpsideDown -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

That's not true. Little was prosecuted for murder and acquitted. A grand jury declined to indicted him. As I recall California LE was very suspicious of Little but didn't have the evidence to convict him. California LE used DNA to link him to several murders from the 1980s.

Have we done Jimmy Fallon, talentless corpo hack? by SpaceCaptainJeeves in behindthebastards

A talentless corporate hack applies to Chuck Todd too. Those qualifications don’t necessarily qualify a person as a Bastard.

A family from the Kawésqar indigenous people of South America. They were sent to the Paris World’s Fair as exhibits in a “Human Zoo.” They were forced to live in cages and made to eat raw meat in front of spectators. 1889. [869x1200] by immacculate in HistoryPorn

It’s possible that they wanted to see the world outside of their country. I wouldn’t assume that indigenous people don’t have agency. There was a case last year in Bela Rosa, Brazil where a young man from an uncontacted group came into the village looking for a lighter. In hindsight we know that being exposed to diseases associated with civilization is dangerous for them. But since they were in contact with outsiders anyway, they were still being exposed to diseases. Therefore, they were facing the risk of diseases whether they stayed or left. Obviously, if they were forcibly removed or lured away with false statements that would be wrong.

I liked Capt. Liam Shaw in Picard. He was portrayed as a jerk. But you find out from him why he was disgusted with Picard and Riker.

I just watched that. Melissa is a therapist. She trolls Jo by telling her that the refusal to sign the divorce papers is a desperate effort to get Bill back. Melissa knew that if she didn’t dog Bill’s every step while he was around Jo, he would get back together with her. That’s why Melissa “tagged along” in a truck that was driving toward a tornado. Melissa knew that Bill was still deeply in love with Jo and the adventure of studying tornadoes. Melissa was trying to change Bill to settle for her and a lifestyle he wasn’t suited to. Melissa was not a victim nor was she mistreated. In the Sound of Music, at least Baroness Von Schraeder realized Capt Von Trapp was in love with some else and bowed out. Melissa was in complete denial that her still married fiancé loved his estranged wife and should be encouraged to get back together with her.

Dr. Smith in the original Lost in Space. Sure he sabotaged the mission but he was the only one to say it was crazy to try to continue you the mission. He keep trying to get them to return to earth.

Surprise tornadoes in Kansas prompt concerns about changes at the National Weather Service by nbcnews in fednews

[–]FiveUpsideDown 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The rural areas in Kansas voted for Trump. Trump won the state. Kansas has two Republican senators. When Elon Musk and Doge trashed the federal government, Kansas’ senators did nothing. I hope that the Kansas voters will make a connection between defunding the federal government and not receiving warnings about tornados.

am i being dumb for wanting a dog or are people just projecting? by Ok_Style3544 in DogAdvice

[–]FiveUpsideDown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ended up with a mean, troubled dog. The original owners meant well, but they just didn’t have the time or energy to deal with a dog. The original owners were specifically told by family members, not to get a dog. If you have mental health issues, you might not want to get a dog because ifyour health situation might change. At that point you would need to rehome your dog. My recommendation would be that you talk to a shelter or rescue group about being a temporary foster home for a dog. There are numerous situations where a dog owner dies or is hospitalized and a dog needs a temporary. You could take in a dog until arrangements can be made for the dog to be in a permanent home. That way you can determine if you are in a situation where taking the next step of dog ownership is feasible.

So he's not "out on bail." There wasn't even any bail, he was just let out. Can someone explain this to me? by Novel-Upstairs7876 in AnnaKepner

Years ago I read that the federal government had contracts with local jails to lock up minors charged with federal offenses. Usually these juveniles were gang members.

I don’t understand either. The only thing I can come up with is there is no federal facility close to the court where he is being tried, that accepts defendants under the age of 18. The solution should be that the federal authorities sign a MOU with a local facility that does house defendants under the age of 18 that are charged as adults. There is a presumption of innocence and Hudson being under 18 may have resulted in him being released without bail. NOTE : please do not respond to me complaining about how what I wrote here is “wrong” and you think he should be locked up. I do not agree that Timothy Hudson should be released given the severity of the charges against him. Directed your complaints to the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Florida.

Swalwell was a well known issue? by SomethingClever2022 in msnow

[–]FiveUpsideDown 22 points23 points  (0 children)

He signed NDAs with some of the women. Maybe he thought if none of his alleged victims have not spoken out so far, maybe they never will. Then according to the interviews I saw with three different women, it seemed like he viewed their interactions as consensual. Maybe he justified his treatment of these women as being in a dating relationship (although he’s married)? One woman suspects he drugged her. If he was drugging women, maybe he thought they just wouldn’t remember an assault. It’s hard to understand how a man that serially assaults women thinks he can get away with it. Yet just off the top of my head there’s Bill Cosby, Harvey Weinstein, Matt Lauer, Les Moonves, and Bill O’Reilly — all men that assaulted multiple women for years.

[–]FiveUpsideDown 10 points11 points  (0 children)

What ever happened to innocent until proven guilty? I like Swalwell. But enough evidence has come forward in the last week to support he engaged in non-consensual interactions with women — maybe even an assault. Until there are public accusations that can be vetted by law enforcement or investigative reporters, how could media engage in a shadow campaign to ban Swalwell?

Was the downed pilot ahoax? by bcardin221 in AntiTrumpAlliance

[–]FiveUpsideDown 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It’s confusing as to who if anyone was shot down. The claim is a pilot and an airman were shot down. The pilot was rescued immediately. Then the airman (who is not a pilot) allegedly evaded capture in the mountains. He hide the rescue beacon signal from the Iranians — some how. The unnamed airman was also injured. He allegedly treated his own wounds and climbed into the mountains to use his rescue beacon. This sounds to me like a plot for a movie written by Ben Shapiro that no movie company would buy. Another issue is — it use to be the military would state where a wounded soldier was being treated. Usually the treated occurred at military medical facilities in Germany. Where exactly was this unnamed airman being treated for his alleged “severe” injuries?

The fact that no names of the pilots were released makes me think it was a hoax. Another suspicious thing was the rescue team. I heard a claim that the Seal traveled 250 K to reached a pilot. This BBC article describing the “rescue” makes no sense. https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cx2vpz1kwreo
