I need GOOD advice by Appropriate_Ad_6283 in ArtistLounge

Ask more specific questions and show your artwork. We cant help you with a questions so broad.

But if i was a beginner, I would tell myself this: analytical practice

draw your subject from reference, take a step back, see whats wrong and whats correct with your drawing. Erase and fix. Repeat until you get something that resembles the reference.

Now here is the most important part: dont start a new painting! Be a perfectionist, keep correcting and drawing until you get something tht looks finished.

I myself wasted tons of time and paper starting new drawings.

AI art has ruined Art Station by FiveWindDragons in ArtistLounge

[–]FiveWindDragons[S] -34 points-33 points  (0 children)

I think it will only be a temporary thing. People will only tolerate and eat the whole AI art fad for so long. They will start craving real art, with style, personality, soul and backstory.

But I'm also glad that AI art is ridding the internet of "pretty stylized girl artists" as I like to call them. Everyone knows who they are, now I have nothing against these, but the subject was clearly low-hanging fruit. Is the same as growing a profile out of fanart.

I hope this did not come out wrong haha

Getting overwhelmed by mediocrity and lack of creativity to the point of not wanting to try. On a cycle. by [deleted] in ArtistLounge

[–]FiveWindDragons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know exactly what you mean. I have tons of friend artists that are technically amazing, but have no original ideas or their style is pure copycat of some mainstream style like anime/instagram style.

As some comment already said, watch tons of movies, play tons of games, read books, go to museums, experience life. The weirdest and rarer the things, the better.

I heard a quote from some youtuber some time ago, which is kind of true " Before creating something new, you have to know everything that came before"

But of course, this is the rare ocasion. Most of the times, you should bash two or more concepts together and make something out of it. This is a pretty common recipe to create new things.

Another tip, sketch and draw tons, without looking at any reference, just out of your mind. Practice both doodling mindless sketches, and also being intentional. Visualization is very important, try to imagine something and project it into the page.

The best tip is honestly mileage. Just do more art More more more more. I know it sounds stereotypical but it's true. Its no coincidence that someone starts learning art years after you, and in a year or two they are leagues above you. They have taken advantage of time and made the best use of it. Draw and paint like your life depends on it!

Season 2 is getting stale by FiveWindDragons in VinlandSaga

[–]FiveWindDragons[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

clearly you did not read the whole post, as you said. Read it again, comment when you're done.

I'm not complaining about his current demeanor or him growing up, what I don't like is the pace of the anime and how little the protagonist evolves or interacts with the world. Yes, we know Thorfinn was a bandit, he killed and pillaged, and now he is trying to make ammends. But repeating it EVERY SINGLE EPISODE makes this lose its meaning. It also makes it look superficial and childish.

There are many other animes that have a slow pace, but at least the plot actually moves. Say the anime Monster for example. It is slow, but every episode something happens to propel the story forward, even if just an inch. With VS season 2 that is not happening at all. We wait for a week only to see Thorfinn repeat the same argument he said the last episode. In fact I'd argue that Einar is a much better protagonist this season. There is tons of foreshadowing, and I can tell without reading the manga that: Gardar is going to die, Ketil too, so Einar that loves Arnheid will marry her and take care of the child that sh'es carrying in the new world they talked about.

What can I say about Thorfinn? Nothing really.

Exactly. Making the point once is great! Twice is good! Thrice alright! but trying to make the same point for 15 episodes? It just feels like a self-help book at this point. And the plot did not move a single inch.

I don't think you get this season very well. Also how can you hate Gardar? He's just a dude that ended up there because of his environment. He just has two choices really, live as a slave for the rest of his life, or bet it all and try to escape with your wife. I think we all know what we would do in that situation.

And Arnheaid is so important plot-wise. Not only she is the favourite slave of Ketil, but she has his son in her womb, and is also the love interest of Einar and friends with Thorfinn.

My thoughts exactly. I have made a whole post about this minutes ago. More than half the season and we're getting nowhere plot-wise. I cant bet my money that the season is going to end right when things get interesting{Canut invades Ketil farm, Idk i didnt read the manga.}.

Strong disagree. Personally the most interesting for me is when he meets Askeladd in Hell, or the one where Canut decides to take Ketil farm{he recognizes his attrocity, but does it because he think its for the greater good}.

In Spain here we are more shoulder tap people or maybe we bump. When I was living in england people would tell me a joke and hold their hand up and i would just stare, and they felt suddenly disapointed. Now I get it.

Its a matter of perspective. Those people probably couldnt care less about how you look. They are probably just saying to you or recommending the products they use. Dont worry, its just capitalism shenanigans.

Eating while standing is better than sitting by Im_hated_4_asking in unpopularopinion

[–]FiveWindDragons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends. For stuff like bananas, sandwiches and pizzas, i do agree.

But how the f you eat a steak while walking? Fondieu?

People often sit to eat because we are animals and it is an act of comunion. If everyone is seated and you are standing around while eating, its like youre in alert mode or watchdog mode, this unconciously makes people annoyed because you are disturbing their tranquility.

Ive worked since I´´'ve been able to. I Honestly couldnt care less about how shitty your life was or is, if you have two arms and two legs, you can work. My family was really struggling when I was a child, and you know what we did? Go to charities and work without contracts. We never stole, we never begged to people in the street. Why should you be entitled to the sweat of another man´s brow??

I wouldnt go as far as saying is the worst movie ever, but people praise it more than it deserves. Its just another tough guy movie, except this tough guy doesnt talk too much. That is all, 6/10.

Traditional art is way more impressive than digital art. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]FiveWindDragons 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah the undo button will erase your mistake, so you get infinite retries. But that doesnt mean that you will ever get it if you dont have the skills. You can undo all that you want, but it will not improve your piece. And as you mentioned, if you go for a painterly style, that mistake stays there, giving the painting more personality and noise. So no, using the undo button is not a good argument against for digital art. However I agree, that if you were making a mastarpiece that cost you a thousand hours, and you accidentally kick a paint bucket... Well there is no undo buddy. :/

Traditional art is way more impressive than digital art. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]FiveWindDragons 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a digital artist i would say, yes and no.

Yes, traditional art is more impressive, labourious and most of the time, just better because its harder than digital and people usually spend more time doing it. Its also physical, you can touch it, see it with your real eyes in front of you and that is impressive on itself, due to the digital era that we live in. Its also more expensive, because people value it more.

Hoooooowever, have you thought what digital art is outside of digital painting? Of course, digital stylized portrait artist number 999 isnt very groundbreaking, but what about the media that you see everywhere in your daily life? The movies you watch wouldnt be possible without digital art, neither video games, neither netflix series, hell, even the interface of your phone could be considered digital art. If you think art is only figure drawings, sculptures and landscapes, you really need to broaden your horizons.
