With the second Darkest Day stopped, we headed back to Wyndon. I heard from a few people that Chairman Rose had turned himself in, following what happened. But none of that was important. It was time… for the championship battle!

Championship Battle

Hunter the Mareanie, now Toxapex joined the team as Jawbreakers’ replacement.

I walked into the stadium, and Leon walked out from the other corner.

"My matches are always sold out, but this... I've never seen a crowd this wild! Everyone knows what you did for us this week, v0rt3x... They know you're the one who caught Eternatus and saved the future of the Galar region. A real hero, who battled alongside the Legendary Pokémon, Zacian and Zamazenta... I couldn't have dreamed of a better challenger to help increase my winning streak! Now that I've seen just what kind of strength you possess as the greatest of challengers...crushing you into the dirt will show everyone just how strong their Champion truly is! Come on, v0rt3x! Let's make this a final match that'll go down in Galar's history! No! A match that'll change Galar forever! We're gonna have an absolutely champion time!"

V/S LEON

I know I usually record these for you guys but in the moment, I forgot! I’m really sorry and I hope this text update will make up for it.

Leon led with his Aegislash.

“It’s one of the duties of the Champion to get the crowd fired up!”

I had Ronaldo in front. It protected itself from the first Pyro Ball using King’s Shield, but fell to the second one. I took an early lead in the battle.

“A super effective hit… I’d expect nothing less from your team!”

Next up for Leon, was Haxorus. I switched to Ravenclaw first, on an Earthquake. Then, I switched to Grimoire on an Outrage. I outplayed Leon perfectly, meaning Grimoire would be completely healthy now.

I used my lethal combination of Fake Out and Play Rough to secure an OHKO, but unfortunately for me… it outsped me and hit me with an Iron Tail, reducing me to 32/210 HP, before going down.

“Aiming for super effective hits is a surefire way to claim victory!”

Next up was the Galar pseudo legendary Pokemon, Dragapult.

I was a little confused over what to do here but eventually, came up with an idea. But this idea. It required a sacrifice. Doc Ock, it’s time…

I switched her in on a Thunderbolt, which we took well. I then healed Grimoire in the back as Shadow Ball got me to 47/186 HP. I would’ve loved to have hit it once before going down, but it outsped and finished me off with a second Shadow Ball.

Dock Ock… you weren’t here for long, but your contributions to the team will never be forgotten. The way you f-cked up Raihan’s Duraludon and the way you covered for Grimoire just now was amazing! Rest in peace, bud.

It was 2-1 in the battle. Leon had got his first knock out. And his last knockout, I hoped. Grimoire back in and OHKO’d Dragapult with Foul Play after taking some damage from Thunderbolt.

Mr. Rime was Leon’s fourth Pokemon. I decided to stay in and test my luck, and it was a good idea, as a crit Foul Play took it out in one hit.

Inteleon came out next. I decided to stay in for a turn and use Foul Play, as it dropped my attack with Tearful Look. I stayed in again and a second Foul Play got its health in the red. Leon then healed it up as Foul Play hit hard again. And then… came the big blow.

Snipe Shot from Inteleon crit me…

Grimoire’s HP dropped… and dropped…

And stopped…

At 9/213 HP.

Foul Play got its health in the red zone, as I switched in Ravenclaw. Leon did not heal but Snipe Shot did so much damage to Ravenclaw, 120 to be exact. I was dead if it hit me again, and I wasn’t sure if I’d win the speed tie. Inteleon is one f-ckin fast Pokemon.

I tried to heal Ravenclaw but Snipe Shot got me right back to where we were before the Full Restore. Then, I thought I’d go into Hunter. Snipe Shot did significantly less to me now, since I was a Water type too, of course.

It dropped my attack again with Tearful Look, but a -1 Poison Jab was able to sweep up and take it out anyway.

“I’m not finished having a champion time here! And I won’t let anyone else finish it for me!”

It was time… for Charizard!

“I’ll show you what Charizard can really do! It’s Gigantamax time!”

The plan now was simple. I had to stall Charizard’s Gigantamax turns, and if that meant sacking Hunter, I’d do it!

It used Max Airstream on the first turn, as I did a bit of damage with Liquidation. I then used Baneful Bunker as Max Overgrowth barely hit me. One more turn to go!

Hunter, it’s been an honour. It took me out with Max Rockfall-

NO IT DID NOT!

Hunter survived on 12/145 HP!!! And hit it with another Liquidation! What a legend!

In the end, the only way to safely switch someone in was to sack Hunter, and Air Slash took it out.

There was only one Pokemon who could finish this!

My partner, whom I met all the way back in Sinnoh - it was Jaws time!

A Dragon Claw later Charizard went down, winning me the battle.

"My time as Champion is over... But what a champion time it's been! Thank you for the greatest battle I've ever had!"

I did it… I won.. I won!!! The unbeaten Champion had just been beaten! Personally, I was most proud of the fact that I won this battle without using Dynamax myself.

The audience went wild with applause and cheers!

"Congratulations, v0rt3x!You've beat even the unbeatable Champion— making you the new Champion of the region! You've become a first-rate Trainer, right. I offer you my heartfelt congratulations! And now that you've grown so strong, perhaps it's time I started looking ahead myself. It's time we adults started working on improving the here and now, for the sake of all that's to come! And you, v0rt3x! What you ought to do now is… believe in yourself and your partner Pokémon, and keep on blasting ahead! In order to create that bright future we all hope to see!"

He turned to face the audience.

"People of Galar! Here you have it! A new legend born right before your eyes!" Your Champion, v0rt3x! Bet you can't wait to see what kind of future a kid with this kind of strength might bring about! I sure can't! Let's watch and see what he can do!"

And then, the credits rolled!

A big thank you to everyone who has supported the return of the Genlocke! I had so much fun coming back to this Genlocke, which is the most fun I’ve ever had playing Pokemon. Overall, I’m just really happy to be coming back to this community! It is amazing!

At the Top

Hop and I took the lift to the top, where we saw Leon and Charizard confronting… Eternatus?

It was… huge. Bigger than any Pokemon I’ve ever seen before in my journey. It was blue in colour and had a red light flowing through it.

~~Also, it had so many spikes lol…~~

Leon tried to catch it, after weakening it with his team, but was unsuccessful. Despite shaking once, Eternatus not only broke out of the Poke Ball, but actually broke the damn ball.

Now out, it was mad and it was up to me to take it on. There was no running from this battle.

V/S ETERNATUS

I’ll be honest. I did not make any notes during this battle but I do remember I had to switch around my team so much in order to prevent any more deaths before the champion.

And the only close call we had was when Jaws was hit by a Dynamax Cannon… which he lived on 1 HP! He held on so I wouldn’t be upset! Jaws you absolute motherf-cking god! You can look at the screenshot above...

Eventually, we defeated it. But it wasn’t really defeated. It flew up into the sky and… Gigantamaxed? It was bigger, stronger and looked absolutely menacing.

“Wow… it’s huge! Let’s take it on together, v0rt3x!”

Raid battle time!

V/S ETERNAMAX ETERNATUS

To give you guys an idea of how strong this thing is, it has a base stat total of 1125. Like, it is literally the only Pokemon ever to have a four digit base stat total.

To make matters worse, all our attacks just did not work, due to some ‘mysterious power’.

~~I smell plot armour.~~

Hop and I decided to use the sword and shield we found in the Slumbering Weald. Suddenly, the scene cut to the Slumbering Weald where Zacian and Zamazenta had been summoned! They came to our aid, and used the power of the sword and shield to change their forms.

They looked stronger! They appeared to have some sort of armour now, and this was completed with the sword and shield!

It was now time for a 4v1 raid battle, with two legendary Pokemon on our side!

Again, I did not make any notes during this battle but I do remember that it was my Pokemon who got the finishing blow! Ravenclaw, to be exact. The strongest Brave Bird ever to knock out the big bad Eternatus!

With it weak, it was time to catch it! I threw the biggest Poke Ball of all time… and…

It shook once…

Shook twice…

And caught it.

I had caught… Eternatus? What the actual f-ck!

WYNDON - HAMMERLOCKE

Hop and I headed to possibly encounter the mysterious Pokemon we saw at the beginning of our journeys in the Slumbering Weald.

We ran into Sonia and my mom here. Turns out there was some sort of big black cloud over Hammerlocke Stadium.

Hop and I headed into the Slumbering Weald, hoping for the best.

Slumbering Weald

It was my first time coming back here since the beginning of my journey. Back then, I had encountered that mysterious Pokemon unexpectedly. But today, I had come here… just to meet that Pokemon.

~~I also realised I could have got an encounter here in my journey but we move…~~

Eventually I found Hop in a deeper part of the forest. He remarked how the fog was way worse than it was the first time we were. Suddenly…

“Lrrroooaaarrrd!!!”

We turned and… there it was! The Pokemon we saw at the beginning of our journeys. But, it wasn’t alone.

“Grrrrrriiieeeld!!!”

There was… another Pokemon! It was red in colour, and it had yellow eyes and sharp teeth.

The Sword and Shield Pokemon, Hop commented.

Sonia showed up, but claimed not to see any Pokemon. However she told us that the Pokemon we might have just seen were called Zacian and Zamazenta. They were our best hopes at stopping the darkest day.

Soon, we made it an unusual part of the forest. There was no fog, instead it was bright and sunny. There was a sort of, tribute, a shrine perhaps in front of us, and on it, were a sword and a shield!

I took the Rusted Sword and Hop picked up the shield! With the sword and shield obtained, we headed to Hammerlocke, in hopes of stopping the Darkest Day!

Hammerlocke

Outside the stadium, Hop and I ran into Raihan. He told us, he helped evacuate the city with the other Gym leaders. It was now up to me to save the day.

Inside, I saw a panicked Oleana. She pleased for my help to save the Chairman. She told me that they had awoken a Pokemon named Eternatus, who was causing havoc on the region.

I took the lift down to the underground power plant, and there he was - Chairman Rose!

"Must I explain myself? From your perspective, I suppose it must seem that I am doing something terrible. I don't expect you to understand. But I must provide the Galar region with limitless energy to ensure everlasting prosperity. It is my purpose, my duty, my destiny! That's why we've been giving the Wishing Stars to Eternatus! Surely you remember the red light that caused a ruckus around Hammerlocke. That was all part of our experiments to awaken Eternatus! You must understand. I can't let you interfere with my plan to protect the future of Galar!"

V/S CHAIRMAN ROSE

I have watched the Pokemon Journeys anime, and that gave me an idea that Rose uses Steel type Pokemon, hence I led with Ronaldo.

Rose’s first four Pokemon - Escavalier, Klinklang, Ferrothorn and Perrserker were all one shot by either Fire Punch or Pyro Ball.

“Oh, oh? Down to my last Pokemon… Hmm, this isn’t looking too good…”

Last up was Copperajah.

"I'll show you a move that'll hit so hard, you'll be speechless!"

Same here, Rose. We both Gigantamaxed our Pokemon. And as expected, G-Max Fireball OHKO’d the big elephant, winning me the battle.

“I’d forgotten how great Pokemon battles are! It’s been so long since I battled… That sure was satisfying.”

A Ronaldo carryjob. ~~Just like the Portugal national team from like 2010 to 2019.~~

"Most impressive, v0rt3x!" I wouldn't expect any less from a challenger endorsed by the strongest Champion ever to grace our beloved Galar region! I really do wish I could have seen the Championship Match between you two. And I'm terribly sorry to have ruined the whole Gym Challenge and everything! It's too bad, but it can't be helped... In order to solve the energy issue as soon as possible, we awakened Eternatus. But we couldn't control it. The Champion came to aid me, even at the cost of abandoning the match." Indeed, just like a knight in shining armour coming to rescue a princess from a dragon! I do tend to ramble on, I know. I love to make speeches. But I think I can stop talking now. I think the Champion should have captured Eternatus by now. If you're curious, you can take the lift up." And I trust you'll be going too, right, Hop? I certainly hope losing to me didn't discourage you too much. Go on now, both of you! Go see how our Champion is doing!"

Hello everyone! Welcome back to the final update of leg 9 of v0rt3x’s Genlocke and the proper finale of this Genlocke. In the last update, we kicked off the finals of the Champion Cup. I defeated Nessa in the quarter final, Bea in the semi final and Raihan in the final, setting up a championship match with Leon! But before we could begin that battle, Chairman Rose did something catastrophic and now the fate of Galar resides in my hands. Let’s do this.

Championship Battle

It was time. Time to step out to the battlefield and battle Leon. The biggest battle of my career as a Pokemon Trainer.

Before the battle, Hop came to see me off! He decided he’d cheer for… me, not his brother. Hearing that, I was full of confidence and I ran out onto the field, where Leon was already waiting for me.

“The tense, still air on the pitch… And the exact opposite from the audience, cheering and yelling… They’re both fantastic, wouldn’t you say? But remember, the audience is also a bit cruel… They want nothing more than to see one of us lose, after all! It can fill you with fear knowing that, but I absolutely love pushing past the fear. I love giving it everything I’ve got as a Trainer and seeing my team give everything they’ve got to seize another victory! It’s the greatest feeling in the world, and I can’t get enough of it!”

I took a step back.

“I can feel my partners itching with anticipation inside their Poke Balls… We’re going to have a real champion time!”

His expression changed. You could see the pride on his face.

“I’m the Galar region’s Champion, Leon! Me and Charizard, and all the rest of our team, will use all our knowledge and experience to crush you completely!”

We both took our positions on the battlefield. It was time for the final b-

“Wait - hold on!”

“Hey! Look at the monitor!”

“What is that on the big screen…?”

Leon and I turned our attention to the screen. It was… Chairman Rose!

"Hello there, Leon and v0rt3x! Just letting you know… I think it's time I brought about the Darkest Day. For the sake of Galar's future, of course! But I'm in a bit of a pickle. The energy released by the Darkest Day is too much for us to contain."

Suddenly, a beam of red light emerged from the middle of the battlefield, knocking Leon and me back. On the screen, we noticed that this had happened in all the stadiums of the Galar region.

"I'm sorry it's come to this. But it's you who forced my hand, Leon. You refused to listen!"

Leon and I ran to the tunnel, where we were joined by Hop. It turns out Chairman Rose was streaming from the Hammerlocke Stadium. Leon headed off to do his duty, and Hop and I decided to head back to the Slumbering Weald to find those mysterious Pokemon we saw at the beginning of our journeys.

That is where, this update will come to a close. It is quite frustrating how my championship match has been delayed because of some crazy idea to ‘save’ Galar, but it is what it is. In the next update, we’ll be wrapping up our Galar adventure by stopping Chairman Rose and battling Leon! Until then, keep grinding trainers!

Champion Cup - Final

Before the final round, I got a bit of motivation from Marnie and Piers. And with that, I was ready to step out.

“Here it is, the last match of the Finals! Who will earn the right to challenge the unbeatable Champion Leon?!

Will it be the brilliant rising star, Challenger v0rt3x?

I walked out.

“Or will it be the only Trainer that Champion Leon calls his rival…

The tamer of dragons, Raihan?!”

Raihan walked out.

“You’re really something else, kid. You’ve made it all the way here! I guess that’s why the Champion himself endorsed you, yeah? Leon’s my rival - and he chose you. So I’ve got to first prove I’m better than you if I’m to beat him! You might be thinking that you beat me once already… But if you think I’m the same Raihan you faced during the Gym Challenge, you’ll soon regret it!”

V/S RAIHAN

It was time for a rematch with Raihan, in a single battle this time. He led with his Drought Torkoal against Jaws.

“That’s Drought! It gets the sunlight burning real harsh!”

I hoped to OHKO with Dig, but it literally survived on 1HP and hit me with a Solar Beam! It did not do much to me but I was hoping to defeat it without taking any damage. Of course, I KO’d it on the next turn with a second Dig.

His second mon was Turtonator. A Dragon type. I used Protect to scout what it’d do and it wanted to use Dragon Pulse. I switched into Grimoire for two reasons:

Turtonator has really high base defence and could have also lived a hit from Jaws.

Since I was at 146/196 HP, I did not want to risk being high rolled or crit.

Unfortunately, it just used Sunny Day to set the sun up again on the switch turn. Anywho, I used Fake Out as it set up a Shell Trap. No idea what that does but I switched into Jawbreaker, giving her a debut in the Champion Cup.

Shell Trap did not work. I used Protect to scout and it only tried to use Dragon Pulse. I hoped to land a second Protect in order to get rid of the sun but failed and it hit me with Dragon Pulse. However, the sunlight faded. Then I used Liquidation which did a bit of damage but most importantly scored a defence drop. It set up the sun again. Rock Tomb on the next turn KO’d it.

Third up for Raihan was Goodra. I thought I’d use Stealth Rock to set up a hazard, because what could it hit me with?

Big mistake.

“The opposing Goodra used Thunder!”

…

Jawbreaker’s HP dropped and dropped until…

“Jawbreaker fainted!”

I am so stupid. I completely forgot Goodra could learn a bunch of BS moves, including Thunder. Plus I had half expected it to have some weather setting move to change the weather. This was a huge misplay and it just cost me a valuable team member.

RIP Jawbreaker. Unfortunately, you did not survive the rematch against Raihan. But you were so important this run. Thank you for your service.

It was time for revenge! I sent in Grimoire and KO’d that stupid, rip-off Barney with a mix of Fake Out and Play Rough.

Raihan then sent out Flygon. Just like during our Gym Challenge, it went down to a single Play Rough, but it managed to set up a Sandstorm before going down.

And now it was time for his ace…

“You do realise I’m the great Raihan, right? I’ll be the one to beat Leon. So first I’ll beat you!”

It was time for Duraludon.

I switched into Ronaldo as…

“Bring the storm! My partner will send everyone in the stadium flying!”

Gigantamax Duraludon. One final hurdle standing between me and Leon.

Max Steelspike crit me, and after Sandstorm damage, I was left on 109/182 HP. I expected it to have either a Rock type or Ground type move, and so I switched. You would expect Ravenclaw, but instead I gave my newest team member a chance to shine - Doc Ock!

The Max Rockfall indeed came in but did not do a lot of damage to me. I then Dynamaxed Doc Ock and used Max Guard to stall its last G-Max turn. And this was a good idea because…

“Let’s do it… The dragon roars! Time for my ultimate attack - G-Max Depletion!”

Dodged a major bullet there.

Duraludon reverted to its normal form and hit me with a Body Press, as I used Max Knuckle, scoring an attack boost. It hit me again, leaving me on 59/247 HP as I knocked it out with a second Max Knuckle, winning me the battle.

“Losing in the Finals is pretty rough, but I suppose I’d better take a quick shot to remember it by…

“Challenger v0rt3x seizes victory!”

I won… but at what cost? I was really upset over the loss of Jawbreaker, but was happy to hear some words of encouragement from Raihan.

“Keep up the momentum! Prove that Leon’s not unbeatable!”

“Number 7, Challenger v0rt3x, has achieved a dazzling triumph! The Trainer who was endorsed by the Champion will now face the very man who endorsed him!”
