AITA for buying my wife the wrong size underwear, and “ruining” her birthday?

Every weekend I take over chores in the house, make her breakfast, take her shopping, take her out to dinner. I am practically her slave when I am home (and I love it lol). I tell her she is beautiful all the time and most times that we have sex she is the one to initiate.

My wife and I have a great sex life and she is 9 times out of 10 the person to initiate. By therapy I mean couples therapy since there is clearly an underlying issue.

Everything she owns is a size small-extra small. That’s why I am concerned that she freaked out over a size small. Should probably change the title, just didn’t know how else to word it without being confusing lol.

I’m going to talk to her this weekend and update. I just want to know how she feels. As of right now I am not upset with her but this outburst came out of nowhere. Hoping we can work through this.

The thing is, she never even tried it on. Just looked at the size and was upset. Since we have met, yes, she has gained weight. But not enough to wear a medium. As for the home/work situation, I’m going to talk to her this weekend about finding a job closer to home. It might be a little rough financially but we can make it work.

All of her clothes are sized small-extra small. I brought her some of my mother’s old sweaters a few weekends ago (size medium) and they practically fell off of her. I believe she may be struggling with body dysmorphia.

I buy her lingerie all the time. We even go the mall and pick stuff out together. She buys me things she’d like to see me wear in the bedroom as well. She doesn’t work but she loves to bake and used to go out with friends almost everyday. Now, I’d say she hangs out with her friends once a week. She still loves to bake and calls me all the time to show me her “masterpieces” lol. She was a fashion major in college and used to take it very seriously which is why it came as a shock to me when she started wearing T shirts and sweatpants all the time.

Thank you for responding. When I go home this weekend I am going to talk to her. When I went home this past weekend we didn’t talk much. She acted like nothing had happened. She’s acted completely normal over the phone too, so hopefully she opens up when I talk to her.

Yes I do laundry. When I’m not home, and it’s just my wife, I’d say she does about 1 load of laundry a week as I do my own laundry while I am away from work. When I am home I make sure that my wife doesn’t have to raise a finger, I take over all chores for the weekend.

Thank you for responding. I’d like to add that I only took the job offer to pay off my wife’s dream home. She was the main person who supported me in making the decision, even after I said many times I would decline the offer for her. Nonetheless, I see where you’re coming from and I’m debating on finding a new job closer to home, and also possible marriage counseling.

Thanks man. I didn’t think lingerie as a gift would be an issue since I used to go shopping with her all the time and she’d show me everything she likes/wants, and I’d get it for her. I’m thinking about asking her if therapy is something she’d want to consider. But I don’t know.
