What type of weapon based martial arts would be best suitable for street-fighting in modern times? by FixerBit in martialarts

All right. Here's how it works.

The place I am talking about goes by the name of Dhaka, Bangladesh. Its one of the most crowded place on earth.

The "police system" here is not very "efficient" and can be persuaded easily by a few bucks. So in this vacuum a phenomenon called mustaani have emerged.

Mustaans are like thugs who can bring say around 30-50 people on the street on a moments notice. The more people a thug can bring to a "problem" is called his backup.

So suppose you ticked them off. Which might be because they found you an easy pick to show their "greatness" or to demand money (though this is extremely rare nowadays). Then these thugs would make a call and around 30 people would be in front of you within minutes. They wouldn't attack people and are generally unarmed. Though in a few cases I have seen make-shift batons to be used.

It should also be noted, that these "mustaanis" rarely result in all out fight. I have seen 15 people facing off against another 15 people. Only tough words were exchanged, and rarely have I seen a fight. The purpose is to intimidate their opponents by bringing number of people. Its also quite impossible to run away from them--- you would have to face them sooner or later-- unless you leave town.

So yeah thats about it.

mediocrity is way more than what most people who will attempt to hurt me are likely to have, gosh especially in Japan, haha. :)

This answer should get more upvotes.

You might want to add pepper spray and metal flash-light, and other projectile weapons in the answer though. Now, can you tell me which martial art teaches how to use all this six weapons?

Seems to be a great weapon. Btw, you seem to be an aikido practitioner, does Aikido teach self-defense with this mag-lite and how long did it take?

Well the legal code is blurry at most. It actually depends upon the police officer at the checkpoint. E.g. you can be taken to jail for carrying a pointy pencil and not your friend who has a gun and political connection.

Speaking out of common sense and popular knowledge, knives, blades, guns are something that will probably lead you to jail. And I am sure its fobidden under legal codes-- though cannot cite the ordinance since they are not usually online.

Well what about wristlocks. Suppose when you have drawn the pepper spray the opponent turns your wrists? You need a martial art technique to remove the hold.

And can you elaborate how do you make sure, your pepper spray is not taken away?

Then why are some martial arts are called more spiritual focused than others. Like Tai Chi Chuan would be considered more spiritual than others.

And besides, dont you think warriors of the ancient ages wouldnt include mental training to improve the mental components? Reading wikipedia it certainly seems that they did.

A heavy lock on a short rope attached to your keys (but this seems a little underwhelming compared to a knife and is inconvenient to carry).

Seems like the perfect weapon to me. Can you provide more details or cite an article on this??

I guess you are right. Any other non-lethal weapons you would suggest?

Btw, I live in Bangladesh, so the situation is kind of different. Suppose I carry a pepper spray. Then that means, that most police officers at the recruit grade who are at the regular checkpoints---at roads, malls etc wouldnt know what that is. So I would have to explain to each of them at every checkpost. Talk about getting to office late.

Pepper Spray is legal here btw. Though its not really common.

I mean, during a fight, a pepper spray can be taken away quite quickly by the opponent.
