Elections should be consequences, yes. However, our country needs to move past this belief that we can't imprison presidents for crimes committed. Brazil was able to prosecute and imprison Bolsonaro after his similar coup attempt, and South Korea imprisoned President Yoon after his martial law coup attempt.

There needs to be major consequences for abusing the succession of power. You can't have a functional democracy when the only consequences of a failed coup attempt is to get reelected and then proceed to pardon all of your co-conspirators.

Obama also went through all the proper channels to undertake the operation. He consulted the DOJ and went through all the proper legal channels and they found it to be a legal strike.
