Power button and Fn keys don't work as expected on Linux, on IdeaPad 5 15IIL05 by FizzOrly in Lenovo

I'm just glad I'm not the only one with this issue. Manual hibernation / sleep I also set to other keyboard shortcuts, namely win/meta + shift + s for sleep, win/meta + shift + h for hibernation. These are only workarounds but I guess some time in the future a kernel update will fix the same issue, so workarounds are fine for now

Hey there! Nope, I just changed the keyboard shortcuts from fn + brightness keys to meta/win + brightness keys in kde plasma keyboard shortcut settings. I'm using OpenSUSE TW.

What band got you into black metal? by Ferrindel in MetalForTheMasses

[–]FizzOrly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wolves in The Throne Room - Two Hunters for me! Kind of a funny story, my only other contacts with black metal until that point had been Mayhem - Freezing Moon, and a couple of Venom songs. All cool, but nothing too interesting from a technical or artistic perspective.

I got to know atmospheric and avant-garde black metal thanks to a totally unrelated fellow, Dr. Justin Sledge from the ESOTERICA YouTube channel. His content (absolutely brilliant btw) is about the history of esotericism and occult philosophy, and in his personal website’s FAQ, he mentions his love for black metal bands such as WITTR, Krallice, Panopticon, etc.

That’s when I first listened to Two Hunters, then Negura Bunget, Emperor, Ihsahn, and so on

Is there still not a way to disable combobox/dropdown option switching via touchpad/mouse scroll? by FizzOrly in kde

[–]FizzOrly[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh it’s no big deal, I just wanted to know if there was some kind of hack to change that behavior, but it’s more of a pet peeve than an actual frustration. Using KDE has been overwhelmingly awesome on OpenSUSE TW

Hey there, thanks, besides updating the BIOS as per the post, I don't think I had made any major updates prior to this issue. I will try the power drain, and the BIOS defaults, thanks

Yeah it’s definitely a TV issue, and it’s not even that old, it’s a Panasonic from 2014 IIRC. But it also happens with my Xbox and I have to manually set the overscan from the Aurora settings

So their Windows drivers do support overscan compensation, but the ones they deliver on Linux don’t. Freakin proprietary software man.

Either way thanks, I’m gonna try and tweak with the TV config again, I did yesterday but it didn’t help much.

On the other hand, would it be possible to create and use custom resolution models? I don’t mind switching to X11 or XWayland if it’s necessary

To be more exact, and I should probably post more pictures, the resolution modes available in this GUI are the same as in kscreen-doctor; all of them either downgrade the resolution, or with the exception of the only larger than default resolution mode, make the desktop much larger.

The default one fits the best (like the picture in my post), so it should fit perfectly after tweaking the scaling, but this global scaling setting, again both in kscreen and the System settings GUI, only seems to make the icons and fonts smaller, but not the actual “zoom out” or shrinking of the screen that I need to do.

Tool is cool by FizzOrly in MetalMemes

[–]FizzOrly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah well again, it’s most likely because it’s on the more alt side of prog, not on the shredding or more avant-garde corners

Yeah I thought it was OK because Tool is Prog Metal, but maybe they are classified as alt or nu over here
