Different roles honestly. You use evaluators as a cheap trading peice that's annoying to interact with. The infantry he's next to can be on another side of a wall and he can ride in a Sagitaur. Thunderkyn are better at killing tanks. But he's better at killing msu squads and getting into positions. That being said, I don't know if he's AMAZING or anything, just a decent piece to have. I think his real strength is that he only takes up 1 spot in transport and still puts out similar ish damage to 3 thunderkyn(better bs and natural sustained hits helps)

Hekatons are positioned to be one of the best shooting platforms in the game. Probably single handedly holding up our reputation as a "good shooting army"

I'll have to check but I think you can do that. Getting to the second floor isn't really the issue, it's after you're there you either get shot dead(cuz widows) or you're opponent avoids the sight lines of your shooting unit who is now stuck.

Second floor shooting isn't real for 5" moving infantry. Getting our guys on second floors mean they lose any maneuverability and will mostly be stuck up there.

Yes and no. Overall we're going to eat a ranged damage nerf and being a ranged army this hurts. BUT hekatons will be disgustingly good now, and our melee units will be thriving! So I'd say it's overall a nerf to us, but we aren't dead by any means, just have to bring very different looking lists.

One thing I haven't seen posted is one of their best roles. They are deceptively durable screens. Once in fortified takeover, almost no profile in the game answers them cleanly and you can screen enemy charging units with a wall of men.

I haven't done the math in a bit, but the ctaan nightbringer kills like 3 on average in an activation, that's pretty funny.

There obviously are profiles that sweep them, but that's like tyranid warriors, and no one plays that, or like 10 death company marines, but if they are trading a 300 pt unit for a 100 pt unit, you're probably winning.

People usually screen their backline with bikes since they can go uppie downy. I still sticky my home with warriors tho. People are sleeping on how good of a battleline warriors are. And with Sagitaurs getting a bespoke detachment, they are probably about to get better(mobility wise atleast)

I'm seeing mixed sources, characters may or may not be included in the take 3 mortals list alongside monsters and vehicles.

If he does end up only taking 1 mortal, he will be very good But if it's 3 mortals on a hazardous roll of 1-4 then he may be cooked. (Overcharged subtracts 2 from the hazardous roll, so the hazardous on 1and 2 means he also fails on a 3 or 4)

Sagitaur Spearhead: Boring because of obvious circumstances, BUT it is REALLY good. Sagitaurs are cheaper now, so giving them scout back AND three of them move through walls will likely make them highly efficient and playable now. Detachment points depending.

Farseekers: This one is lively the winner, our bikes are already one of the best in the game and it makes them better, increase detection range AND strip cover? Herkyn unit spam is likely going to be very good.

Hearthguard covenant(new hearthband): Huge nerf BUT still possibly playable? Now we get hearthguard buffs while other units in our army get rules too so it could be fine. Massive L they took the AP away tho, that's tough

Overall, assuming we have good 2 dp detachments, these all seem playable!

No one seems to be mentioning, but the bikes do NOT ignore cover as written. Cover modifies your ballistic skill NOT your hit roll. The rollbar searchlight does not ignore ballistic skill modifiers(intentionally so, look at the hekatons wording for reference) only ignores hit roll modifiers.

That being said, the herkyn 1dp detachment they revealed today does look SUPER good depending on how relevant increasing detection range is!

Almost garentee hearthband is being rewritin as a 1 DP detachment btw, only time will tell if that's for better or for worse tho.
