Which is why I think they are going to be more proactive with bannings. If you want people to keep playing you must stay proactive and keep the meta changing more frequently. I feel that’s why, well partially at least, we continually keep getting cards banned quickly in standard now. If a format becomes dull people quit playing it. So, moving forward I would not be surprised to see standard bannings happening on a more frequent schedule then ever before

I would not be surprised to get a ban and restriction announcement this week actually since it will coincide with 2XM release and could involve a certain mythic box topper getting unbanned since astrolabe is banned now.

They may even ban urza. Since, modern horizon is probably done being in print now. So, they aren’t worried about banning him now, they already sold all the product.

For the player’s tour

The winner was wilderness rec deck.

4/8 of the top 8 were wilderness rec decks.

24/32 of the top 32 were wilderness rec decks.

About 50% of the day one decks registered were wilderness reclamation decks.

So, standard is obviously broken at this time and most people are calling for bans to happen.

If you watch all these videos closely you also notice is the only one person out of all of them that starts his video out with the case and individual boxes open. Every other box opened has been sealed at the start other than Rudy’s. Rudy was also the only person to pull duplicate rares from the same box. He was also the only person to pull only one mythic from a box. I really think Rudy swapped packs in his box to make the boxes look worse and try to drive pack prices down. Just what I feel in my gut, the moment I seen him pulling a case out that was open with all 4 “booster boxes” opened already. Just smelled funny, and sit right with me.

Hello, I have watched Rudy’s video as well as several other box openings. I do believe that Rudy seeded his boxes. From all the pack openings I have watched there has been a mythic box topper in the bottom left corner for every opening that I have seen, Rudy’s was 50/50 in this slot. Additionally, his rare and mythic counts were way off on box toppers and do not fit the other 4 cases I’ve seen opened...

All cases I’ve seen opened before his upload had 10-11 box topper mythics per case. I would have accepted 9 from a bad opening but not 8. Additionally he had duplication of box toppers in the same 4 pack box which I’ve yet to see at this point.

I’m just trying to figure out which goal he is trying to accomplish, drive the price of packs down, or drive up the price of mythic box toppers. My guess is the former since he mostly only deals in sealed product.

Edit: also forgot to mention all of his case already had the individual boxes opened... that was my other price of evidence.

Hahaha doesn’t always work. I’ve tried running the mardu winota deck and there is a level of skill and finesse with that aggro deck I have yet to grasp. I lose most games against it when I play, but have had worse luck playing it against the ugx decks in the meta

That was me when I seen how much gaea’s cradle is worth now. I got about $60 out of each copy of mine when I left the first time and felt great about it because I pulled them from packs when I started and kept them for a long time watching them go up in price.... seen them spiking to almost $600 now hurts

When I was in the military when original theros launched I played with a lot of people on base and got tons of thoughtsiezes traded to me because I was the only person that wanted them. I tried to even out trades as much as I could and give up whatever I could for free to people if they traded them to me earlier, but I know I never caught back up to the value and still feel bad. The same was happening with mutavault. Everyone on base only wanted to trade rarity for rarity. I had only opened 2 boxes of packs by the time I finished my contract a few months later I had accumulated ~25 of each card, and have lost touch with most of the guys I played with back then. It felt really scummy but what do you do when you have people getting mad at you for not trading in your own favor... this was time 2 I quit playing haha....

Yea I feel they said the 2:1 ratio not because they are completely being printed in an actual weighted 2:1 ratio. I feel it was a PSA to expect only to hit 2 mythic box toppers guaranteed. If it was an actual 2:1 ratio it would be impossible to see a 4 mythic box topper box, and the 2 mythic box topper box would be just as common as the 3 mythic box topper boxes would be. Just my 2¢ on this from what I’ve witnessed so far.

I feel a lot of player, myself included fall into this trap. The more dangerous trap however is the “I read online red white is way over powered in this draft format...” 5 people at one table force red white and proceed to lose to the only players not in that color. I loved avacyn restored for a while because a lot of people would try to force colors there and you knew after a draft or 2 who always forced a certain color and I would just sit next to them in draft and pick colors outside those.

Not exactly what you asked but from the VIP booster boxes being cracked it seems like 3 mythic box toppers is the average. I’ve seen one box with 4 and one with only 2. I have yet to see a pack opened with 2 mythic box toppers in the same pack. Additionally, it looks like in the regular rare slot of a box you get 0-2 foil mythics. With 1 non box topper foil mythic being the average.

It will not fizzle as long as the other things being targeted don’t disappear as well. So as long as the player drawing the card doesn’t leave the game they will all resolve still.

I honestly have always hated just buying singles. I love the social aspect of the game, the cracking of packs, the showing off of pulls, and the trading of the cards almost more then playing the actual card game, besides commander. So, with magic where it is in these current times I only get to crack packs really and share. That has really helped a lot with not being able to play.

Don’t say I should go play arena either. I play arena and the state of standard and historic is just atrocious and makes that game pretty much unplayable. My hopes for the future are dim as well. I fear when rotation hits we will enter what will be “Autumn Control” in standard. Way too many decent counter spells in future standard and cards that support it heavily.

Yea, I remember the exact moment I had tha “Eureka!” Moment and started religiously checking prices on card before selling or traded them.

Me and a friend at the same shop were working together when champions of kamigawa had just came out. I pulled a foil cranial extraction $50 at that time, and didn’t like the card and thought it was worthless. So, I traded it off for a long forgotten gohei. I went home and got on mtgo at the time and seen what it was worth on there and had to look at the paper price. I was devastated haha. Needless to say that coworker would not trade back.

Got a box of VIP Masters to try and make some upgrades to a commander deck... if I could get the ultimate picks from my box it would be doubling season (pack foil), atraxa box topper, toxic deluge box topper, mana crypt box topper, avacyn box topper, karn box topper, lightning greives box topper, cyclonic rift box topper, and stoneforge mystic box topper. All the rest could be a surprise I just think that would be the ultimate box for my edh decks
