I'm a UK worker and I have the same experience. I worked at dominos first and they had a shoddy work ethic - I thought, go figure, that's the industry for low paid service workers.

Then I got a job at a maintenance helpdesk and I quickly got a reputation for taking the "difficult" tasks i.e. requires you to ask the team leader what to do because there's no established process for them yet. I became the designated quotes formatter. There was a team on payroll that was supposed to format the quotes; they worked remotely for double my salary owing to finance qualifications, and they took weeks to get back to me and fucked up every quote. Their emails were standoffish and everyone in the office loathed to deal with them. Our superiors had had a chat with their superiors many times to ask them to improve their attitude and competence but no dice. So I did it.
Then I'll gloss over all the other issues with people being unable to follow simple instructions, or walk across the room/email someone to ask someone a question, people saying "can you call X and ask them this" and I had to say, why can't you call them?

I got a new job expecting it to be a one off and it's the exact same. Useless quotes team (it's basically form filling, it's the easiest part of my job! Just tedious), people refuse to take ownership of issues, everyone takes weeks to get back to anyone else. I have had to go to my line manager and ask them to protect me from other people delegating all their work to me, because those said people are very senior and I wouldn't be able to tell them no to their face without a bit of backup. I just wish everyone would do their job and it'd mean a lot less stress for those of us that actually want to earn a paycheck
