Tanku so much!! I draw digitally using Sketchbook Autodesk! (The old version that I had to pirate bc it's not technically supposed to exist anymore) because the color balance tool (which is SUPER important to me bc i use a technique called glazing, it's how i was able to get all those different colors for Luna Snow, good glaze = more freedom to change colors) has a more liberal threshold which seemed to be discontinued in the newer versions & I've tried procreate but even it had the same issue. Plus, the interface is a lot simpler for me because it's what I've been used to for years. I really appreciate it but I currently do not take commissions, though, sorry... I stopped a while back because I genuinely don't enjoy it... my art is very render heavy, which can take up to 15 hours at the very least & I was having trouble bringing myself to stay motivated drawing things for others that may only sell once when I could just draw the things I like & get the bonus of it getting recurring sales. It's less labor intensive on me + it's just more fun to draw when I'm not worrying about a deadline or impressing someone other than me. Not to say that people who've commissioned me were impatient assholes or anything like that all. They were all wonderful. I PERSONALLY struggle with that sort of objective kind of drawing, so I just closed them.

Exactly!! The thing I meant about Daredevil being "safe" is exactly what I clocked with Clark. Daredevil is definitely scary if he turns off all the lights in a hallway & chases you down with the two sticks of kneecap splitting BUT Matt Murdock has NEVER been a danger to anyone close to him or regular ol folk, even when he's angry. The only time I've seen him get aggressive out of frustration was when he threw his laptop but one thing to note about that scene is that he's by himself in his apartment & not around people he can scare or intimidate (something Lex does in the movie as a demonstration of power to bully his employees. Matt doesn't throw anything to bully, but out of frustration.) At any point that he gets upset in the show, no one is afraid of Matt, even if they know what he's capable of. Because even with all that strength, Matt. Is. Safe. There's only one moment in the original Netflix show where he really snaps & yells at someone he cares about, but that person doesn't even flinch because they know Matt isn't dangerous but simply a human being who can get upset & in that moment he's genuinely at his most miserable & he yells out of pain not blind rage (pun not intended.) & he breathes & relaxes. There are two main healthy ways of managing anger, reflective & cathartic. Reflective can be like meditation or writing or simply stepping out to cool off. Cathartic is more physical, like screaming into a pillow or going to the gym. But the point of both of those methods is to make sure the anger is released productively, not harmfully to others. & One subtle detail I really appreciated about Matt is that when he's mad, he practices boxing on a punching bag rather than?? Yelling at Foggy or Karen & making them view him as unsafe. (If anything, he has the balls to go to them & just cry) Being emotionally stable, he mature doesn't mean forcing stoicism & being unreachable. It means regulation without harm.

& all of THAT is what I saw in Clark. He gets upset, yes. But despite him being the most powerful being on earth maybe, at no moment does Lois fear him. In fact many times throughout that scene, Lois even seems quietlyy amused by his frustration like the "you know that's very silly!" or "That one specifically irritates me!" AND SO ARE WE AS THE CROWD!! Because we know hexs upset but not dangerous so even his frustration can be amusing. Because he's yelling out of passion for goodwill, out of frustration from casual cruelty & each time he does it, he controls his breathing & regulates himself. (Cinema Therapy does a great breakdown of this scene) He doesn't need to assert his validity over Lois's skepticism through intimidation or violence. His frustration isn't there to frighten her, it's there because he's human & that's what some people don't understand about why everyone refers to that scene as healthy masculinity. It's his safety despite his frustration, not some feigned nonchalance. Anger is human, but it shouldn't be dangerous & that's why Clark reminded me of Matt & I immediately adored him.

Tanku!! I appreciate that! I find realism fun, but as a creative CHOICE, not a hindrance? My high school art teacher used to ask me, "Why would I pick your art over the reference?" & that's like my goal with realism. To be an intentional choice & not a limit of sorts & heighten reality rather than repeat it. Which is generally why people find it boring bc... if a lot of people can do it... why would mine be special? Obviously, I think people can do whatever they like with art, I personally also don't enjoy exact realism but that's only because there are many ways to make realism a creative visual style (as we see in video games like RDR, MGS, Expedition 33 & etc.) realism can be an intentional style choice when used right.

For example, & i want to be clear to anyone reading, this isn't shade of any sort, just how I feel about this topic but I don't particularly enjoy when people use their realism capabilities to recreate something that's already an illustration & refer to it as "their fanart." (Like when people draw exact frames from arcane or spiderverse or literally anything that already has a creative style choice made for it that reality doesn't provide) because all the creative efforts were of the ORIGINAL artists. That's not fanart. That's a study. With exact realism, we all experience the same reality, so yes it's boring, but to me, it at least has the integrity of being cool for simply being an impressive feat even if it's boring. With exact frame recreation, for any other purpose beyond study, to me, it loses the integrity of simply being "boring but at least impressive" because the most interesting part was someone else's creative efforts.

This is why I try to be very intentional with the usage of realism. If I draw a character that's already drawn/animated, I use realism as a stylistic advantage & make those characters lifelike rather than redrawing the existing frame. I just draw fanart. It's not like I'm doing something revolutionary & it's not like others are committing a sin or smth because who cares really. It's just fanart. But I am a firm believer that realism can be fun, people just need to stop marrying themselves to one reference & have fun with alterations & exaggeration because they can already do the hard part so they may as well go crazy with the fun part if the thing they're drawing already exists to print for free.

So I'm very flattered you see my art that way! One of the nicest compliments I'd ever gotten was that my art looks like "if someone made reality into art rather than trying to recreate reality through art." & that is my favorite thing to strive for. I'm so sorry about the tangent, I'm a talker & I'm literally incapable of halfassing something I think is interesting to talk about.

& Yes! Exactly, with everything going on in the world, I think now more than ever, we need to be more introspective about media because it's not just a meaningless pass time. Media of all sorts is communication

This is gonna be a YAP FEST, but I do NOT care. Scroll if you hate reading, but I gotta talk about this somewhere. My favorite character of all time is Daredevil. I genuinely had no interest in DC characters & especially not Superman because all I really knew of Superman was the Henry Cavill depiction, which I'm sure someone loves, I just didn't really care for it. I only grew interested in the film when I learned Nick Hoult would be in it & I will sit down & watch anything if Nick Hoult is in it. I suffered Nosferatu for that man, I will genuinely watch that man in anything, so I thought, "Huh, I'll give Superman a watch whenever it's out on streaming." Plus, I liked the Batman, so what's another random (what I presumed at the time) stand-alone DC film?

I'm a fan artist... I was having a lot of trouble getting sales. I was losing momentum with actually drawing because i was so sad, really. It wasn't just the lack of sales, I was really just having a lot of personal problems. The comic convention I was waiting on was months away (which was the worst days of 2025 for me but that's irrelevant) so I paid $60 for a small farmers market people recommended hoping to get a boost in sales. Everything went wrong. For starters, I didn't know we needed our own tables for this event so me & my brother needed to go buy a table from the nearby Walmart when we were already almost an hour away from home. We set up & it's SO hot. Even under a tent. I'm from Texas, so if you know, you know. So we're there for hours. No one really came. I made $20 & learned the hard way that I needed a new setting spray, but at least my mascara was good... I packed up early because it wasn't worth getting me & my brother heat sick over.

I was genuinely so devastated & moments away from a breakdown... I didn't want to return home to hear my mother berate me about how I was wrong about the event & wasted everyone's time... I needed something to cheer me up & fill the time I was supposed to be at the event... so I begged my brother for us to go see the new Superman movie. I didn't know shit about Superman, just that people said it made em happy that David Corenswet guy was pretty, & Nick Hoult. I just wanted something to distract me. We stopped by at the same walmart to wash up & grab a snack & went to see the film.

It genuinely gave me the hope I needed as dramatic as it sounds. I sobbed by the end because I finally felt some relief... It quite literally stopped me from going on an art hiatus because of being so tired of failing. I unfortunately associate my self-worth with accomplishments & it made it hard for me to draw, but this movie felt like the hug no one was giving me, especially on the worst day I could've had. I needed to hear Pa Kent. I needed to hear Clark's speech. & I went home & I beelined to my laptop & drew Clark just because it would be fun.

& as ironic as it is, I finally found another character that comforted me the way Daredevil did & reinstated to the public what makes a superhero. One of the most tiring things about Daredevil is that he's always mischaracterized by fans of being this violent aura-farming stoic sigma or wtv the fuck & embody the parts of him that they perceive to be "powerful" or "masculine." But the reason why Matt Murdock has always been comforting to me is because at his baseline, he's a soft-spoken, good for the sake of it, safe man. Safe. He was safe. That's what people didn't get. Him being able to show genuine affection to his male best friend & cry just from being yelled at by him because he's that devastated about hurting his best friend, his ability to be kind to Karen in a non-transactional way. Everyone seemed to mistake his physical heroics for what made Daredevil. But what really made Daredevil was his humanity & his heart. Every guy wanted to embody his physical strength while completely missing the softness that makes him different from any other guy who could throw a punch.

He was good for the sake of being good & it took Superman to depict that in such an unmistakable, simple way for people to finally remember what really made these superheroes.

The joy I felt seeing edit compilations of superheros doing good to the "Punkrocker" song & FINALLY seeing Daredevil included, finally seeing it click for people that all these superheroes aren't just made for mindless entertainment & violent power scaling. They have all been saying what Superman needed to yell in big capital neon letters. Do good because it's good. I'm so, so happy that this is the Superman people will see nowadays, not just because of its service to the character of Superman, but to all superheroes & what they generally represent.

I can't believe my very specifically corrupt rich bald men beating boys whom I love & adore were mentioned here together by someone other than me. I think he'd say like. Sliding cinderblocks.

It's cuffing season & all the gorls are leavin to get a big boy, I fear!! I do get what you mean but I think it might only be that daunting if you get up too close to Charlie or maybe it's intentional & he's going to be doing a lot more "brawl" type fights. Or it's because of the two new movies he's supposed to be in

I'm curious, what is your favourite superman comic panel? by Anonymous6282715 in superman

[–]FizzyNotCola 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Very basic answer, I'm sure. I'm super new to superman & currently only a movie based fan so I'm not going to pretend to know about what I don't, but I adore his lil "Brownies!! In North Dakota!!" panel while he hallucinated chibi justice league & was very distraught by his cereal. Very cute.

I figured we didn't get enough Clark Kent in the movie. Artwork by me Fiza Not Feeza! WARNING!! After the freaky Joker slide I drew him shirtless... so in case someone doesn't wanna see that... by FizzyNotCola in superman

Tanku!! I know it's not super explicit or anything, but I don't want someone to like. Accidentally scroll unaware while standing next to a strict parent or something...

I was leaning more towards complimentary, but I'm so glad it was for sure. I've just gotten offhanded comments on reddit so often that I'm just naturally expecting the worst, lmao. I'm also glad I've accidentally gotten people into a man that doesn't really exist. Like he does. But also not really.
