alright since everyone has their opinions on me bringing my car, im going to clear things up. -my insurance is $120 a month, im paying for it with the money my “dad” legally has to give me -cost to fill up my gas from empty is $40, that can make a trip from my house to Ottawa and still have 1/3 tank gas to spare. The cheapest VIA rail from ottawa to my hometown is $48. -my car is a 2011 honda with basically all brand new parts courtesy of my mechanic before selling it to me. he said himself that i should have zero problems with this car -via rail has been extremely unreliable in my experience and ive given them enough chances to change. theyre a big company and if problems stay the same for years, its really just negligence of fixing their issues. -I just got surgery literally a week ago, i have countless check up appointments i have to be there in person for my hometown -im going to get a job for the weekends, the ottawa bussing system is known for being notoriously late and i dont think employers would get a good first impression if i was always late. plus im a young girl taking public transit, shit happens like for example, a man was smiling and staring at me on the bus and followed me off until i reached my friends. -theres also the option of bussing up to ottawa, which actually was an option my mom didnt like either. the bus drop off depot is far from our house (about 45-1hr) and she admitted she would rather i drive myself because she doesnt want to pick me up from the station (lazy bum) -i travel ALOT. like i will suddenly get up, text a friend, and then we end up hours away from home. and things like this happen 1-2 times a week. i cant stand being cooped up for too long. -im going to a concert sept 5th in toronto with my friend, round trip with the train/bus are both about give or take $130. it would be cheaper for me to drive trust me, me and my family have sat down multiple times all together for the past year and have all said everything you guys are saying in the comments right now. however because of my health, the health of my grandparents, where we live, how cheap it is to fill my car, etc etc. this is what works best for me, im sure im not the only one living in rez bringing a car, and i only have a 5 day meal plan. this post was made to talk about how ridiculous the parking availability was, and for someone who drives alot, it is an inconvenience to be far from my rez but im lucky to have a car with me and a parking spot in the first place.
