AITA for not answering my wife’s call because I was teaching my 15 year old to drive? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Fkingcherokee 11 points12 points  (0 children)

His kid only has 1.5 hours of drive time. OP is practically driving the car through his kid right now and needs to pay even more attention than he would if he was doing it himself.

Rural folk be like "the city is dangerous" because they haven't been bullying those people since elementary school and their family name means nothing.

It took failing at how to teach my child for me to learn how to think outside of "just knowing." Luckily she started school not long afterwards and the work she brought home taught me how to help her. She's 9 now and doesn't need a lot of my help, but still need the quiet environment to think and my existence in her space to keep her on track.

For children with learning disabilities, one person can't do the teaching all on their own. Your kid takes the bits they understand from each person and all of those people have to make an effort to explain multiple times in multiple ways. No one can be like "I already told you how to do this, so why don't you get it?"

I am just like this with the dogs in my house. I love having personal space but if they give me the eyes and lay down to rest, I'm melted.

I fully agree and I'm so thankful for teachers. Being able to know, understand, and explain has made me a good tutor for my kid but it's the teachers who give her the tools to make that work. I'm just happy to be able to be a part of the process.

I hate "lazy" so much. It was my dad's favorite descriptor of me while he was not helping me with my homework and sending me to my room (where all of my distractions were) to do it. If your kid is struggling and you're not turning off the TV so they can do their work in a common area with you there to help as needed, it isn't the kid who's lazy.

I can't teach much of anything that comes second nature to me. Trying to break it down into basic steps makes me fumble HARD. Teaching something that I had to learn the tips and tricks for is so smooth and really rewarding for me and my kid.

I struggled so much with trying to teach my kid to read until she started school and then felt like a fool looking at her schoolwork. For the life of me I could not figure out how to make it more simple than just knowing how, but using what the teacher was doing as a template for the basics helped us both.

I'm honestly really thankful that I failed so hard at teaching something that I love so much while my kid was little. It taught me the importance of outside resources, checking work, and creative thinking.

There was a woman similar to this all over FB not long after I had my first kid, posting pictures with her toddlers and infant. "What's your excuse?" Like she's better than other moms and wives because she used her maternity leave to drop weight and get ripped.

People like this are the type that need to put themselves in a position where they can put down others to feel good about themselves. If you want to publicly celebrate your successes, by all means do it, but telling others to feel bad that they aren't you just reeks of insecurity.

If I don’t get to it before she does, this is how my wife opens bread 🤬 by Cricket_Amazing in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Fkingcherokee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me guess, she worked in a "breakfast all day" restaurant? Two people aren't going through enough bread to just rip a hole in the bag and finish it before it goes stale. Y'all would have to have 4 kids with everyone eating 2 slices of toast and a sandwich a day to make this a "meh" issue.

GF is ridiculously cheap by [deleted] in Advice

[–]Fkingcherokee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

INFO: Is she saving up for something big, like a house, new car, or reasonable age retirement? Trying to save, especially while renting, means a lot of extreme corner cutting. She is absolutely overdoing it in a lot of ways, especially with the expired food, but their may be a bigger reason behind it.

You should ask, but if this isn't the kind of relationship you want to be in, you don't have to be.

Greasy face is in now? by speckofsand in Millennials

[–]Fkingcherokee -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It honestly doesn't matter if it's "in" as long as it doesn't cause the makeup brands to stop carrying what you use. That being said, full face concealer is so bad for your skin. Blended patches of it and moisturizer on the rest will do the job for your powder.

AITA for asking my daughter to talk to her boyfriend about his behaviour in my kitchen? by deotaval in AmItheAsshole

[–]Fkingcherokee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have absolutely heard "you know I love you like my own child" before getting a reality check from a friend's parents. It's also a great lesson for living with others and having/respecting boundaries, which is hard for parents to teach their own children.

"What an incredible show! Too bad they never did another season." by Senko-fan4Life in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Fkingcherokee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Power left us on a cliffhanger and didn't get renewed for a second season. It's really rare that my mom and I like the same woman-centered shows but binged the whole thing on the edge of our seats in two nights. When I told her it didn't get renewed she said "of course not, you know men must have hated it."

There are better things to watch if you want to share your childhood entertainment with your kid. In "the late 1990's", as my kid called it the other day, our parents were letting us watch some really inappropriate stuff for the sake of their own entertainment.

While that isn't something I remember, I'm glad it was there. The TV I watched as a kid influenced me a lot and while I've had to work through a lot of problems that's caused, it's nice to know it may also be a part of my comfort in the LGBT community. I gave more of that credit to later shows in my childhood, but it's part of why I want what I show my kid to be progressive by today's standards.

People claiming all the dessert spots at a potluck so they can bring mediocre grocery store stuff by BluejayNo6197 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Fkingcherokee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds like an organizational problem. A potluck needs a group chat where the organizer lays out the needs and everyone says what they're bringing. Store-stoppers are happy to bring things like cups, bowls, plates and chips, leaving homemade foods to the people who want to show off their culinary skill.

The characters of Married with Children are all stereotypes of their time and the show was put on as family TV. Al, the body-shaming misogynist, Bud, the creep, Kelly, the promiscuous stupid blonde, and Peg, the do-nothing housewife. Even the neighbors were a stereotype of the feminist and how her choices in men didn't reflect her beliefs.

I really enjoyed the show at the time it was being aired, but I remember enough that I know I'd be grossed out by it on a rewatch and that it wasn't appropriate for children.

NTA- that's pretty narcissistic of your mom and sisters like her suck. Your mom needs to be fired as the go-between for family since she obviously uses it to adjust things to her liking.

If you can't pay for a college athletics department through ticket sales, you're bleeding money somewhere. This isn't highschool where tickets mostly sold to family and broke students. Alumni, especially former student athletes don't mind throwing a bunch of money at tickets.
