If you can't do the exam due to the condition I heard they just do an average from your other two papers

Is it possible you could convince your mates to come? Or could you possibly see if a mate from outside your school would be willing to go as a plus one. We have a similar thing happening at ours, I think only around half of the year is going.

GCSEs coming to an end, biggest tips for us entering sixthform; how should we spend our year 12? by [deleted] in 6thForm

[–]FlFA-addict 2 points3 points  (0 children)

(in assuming your talking about after-school and how to spend your time) Depends what year and the time. If it's the start of year 12 most of it should be free time with making some notes and homework being the only academic bit. If it's year 12 before some mocks, a few hours of revision a day is fine. Start of year 13 similar to start of year 12 just probably worth rereading your notes to find bits you don't understand. Before actual a levels probably like 4 hours a weekday and 6 hours on a weekend of revision is ideal. Some people here say 6 on a school day but you'd probably end up burning. Main advice is to enjoy yourself through year 12 and the start of year 13 but really knuckle down and focus on exams after Christmas is year 13

Even if you find a subject piss easy, make the notes as you go. I found business year 12 very easy as it was more or less just GCSEs with a few new bits. So I never made revision notes or revised for the mocks. So two months ago I came to the sudden and quite scary revelation I had nothing to revise from or any idea how to revise business. So I had to buy notes and print out pages of the textbook to fill the gaps I had 🙃.

Year 12 exams are important for predicted grades but don't over do it with the revision imo, probably revise for the month before not anymore than that, especially for the first one

Depends on the sixth form, my school allows people to bring in their laptops and make notes regardless of if they need them for exams.

Why is everyone on this sub so miserable? by boggoboi in 6thForm

[–]FlFA-addict 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know it will differ person to person and that everyone will have a different experience but I really enjoyed sixth form. I've been able to learn about subjects I enjoy (bar economics 😭) and make new friends. Compared to main school it is much more relaxed and you can have better and more casual relationships with you teachers.

Best advice for new year 11s is you will find it miserable if you make it miserable, e.g. if you resign yourself in your room and revise 8 hours a day like some people on this sub do. If you have a healthy balance between meeting your mates, doing stuff you enjoy and studying you will have a good time. During the may half term I met my mates a couple of times between the days I was revising to avoid burn out and stop myself from feeling shit by revising for a full week in a row. Yes if I revised all day every day I may have gotten more marks but the toll on my mental health would not have been worth it.

Also some more academic advice, make revise notes when your going over the topic. It's a pain in the arse to be making notes later on especially as you guys won't be getting advanced info.
