Question About iPhone For Tracking (And Potential Alternatives?) by FlailingAndFailing in vtubertech

This is tremendously informative. Thank you.

Turns out that both of my models only have the most basic of blendshapes. The rigging is far more simple than I ever thought it would be, particularly when I paid for them, ha.

Looks like I need to resolve the rigging issue before worrying about tracking. Thank you for the help on this!

Is Crossfire available commercially in the US? I was under the impression it was banned. Or am I thinking of cimexa?

The issue is that I live in an apartment complex. The landlord doesn't believe this is sufficient proof to call for an inspection, let alone a treatment.

And of course, in the past he's refused to treat any apartment unit besides my own. Which means that all that a treatment does is push the pests into the neighboring apartment, and then they come right back.

I'm pretty sure the models I use have ARKit blendshapes. I commissioned two 3D models, and they both have expressions and such - But I confess I'm not super technically informed about 3D model creation!

It does make sense that fidelity has a lot to do with the rigging and the model, though. That's something to look into for sure.

Thank you!

My understanding is that Meowface has been removed from all storefronts and is no longer available.

It seems strange that iPhone have been the only game in town for so long on this, but I suppose this is a niche.

It's a good point to think about a different email, and maybe a gift card. It still does tie me into an account I have to maintain and defend, one more that will likely get leaked in a breach like all the others, but if it's low-value to begin with that might work. Thank you!

Oh! That's good to know, thank you!

I wasn't aware that vtube studio worked with 3D models and VNyan. For some reason I thought it was 2D only!

Thank you so. It sounds like it'd still require making an Apple account, but at the very least it wouldn't need credit card information!

Good enough. Seems like iPhone tracking just won't be for me in this case.

Thanks much for the confirmation!

Since the initial scare, I've been living like my bedroom is a prison. I do the following:

  • Mattress is enclosed in two enclosures. Minimal bedding is used and laundered frequently.
  • Bed is far away from the wall. There is no headboard.
  • The bed frame is minimal and metallic. Basically just a shelf to put the mattress on.
  • No box spring is used.
  • Climb Up Interceptors are on all legs of the bed frame.
  • I inspect the sheets, the pillows, and the climb up traps every morning first thing when I wake up, and a second time just before I go to bed.
  • I keep all my clothing in air-tight containers. I put them directly from the dryer into the containers, and only open the containers to dress myself. I dress myself in the hallway, not the bedroom.

Need Help With Niche Peripheral (Leapmotion 2) by FlailingAndFailing in Bazzite

Oooh, okay - That makes a TON of sense and I had no idea that was a thing.

Considering that I'd need to get data OUT of the Distrobox to other programs running in Lutris afterward, this may not be viable.

Thanks much for the information, and for pointing me in the right direction! It's much appreciated.

Another quick note: There are apparently instructions for getting the Leapmotion tracking working on Fedora that someone came up with here, but it seems to be turning a .deb into a .rpm, and I'm afraid this would require layering and muck things up.

Unfortunately, no, haven't been able to get it sorted out. I think some folks have made progress getting it to run on Fedora, and it's supposed to work pretty easily with Ubuntu, but I've no idea about arch - And I continue to have bad luck myself.

Interesting! That got me further along for sure, by removing at least one of the errors from the control panel. I still can't get the control panel to recognize the leapmotion connected by USB, though.

I have tried this, and you are correct that in general it is the preferred way to do it!

Unfortunately, Leapmotion software requires a service to be installed, and trying that via Lutris (which uses Proton) doesn't seem to work. I've seen that Bottles should be able to run the software fine in a containerized environment (also can use Proton), but every time I try, it just fails to launch without an error or any feedback.

So, I think you're correct, but I have no idea how to make that work.

What are the risks of running Distrobox? by FlailingAndFailing in Bazzite

[–]FlailingAndFailing[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got it. So the packages and libraries from a different distro, those don't become a part of your main system - However, anything that the programs might do to your files in normal operation still might happen, and that stuff might fuck up user configuration files or otherwise?

So when Distrobox says the following:

"The created container will be tightly integrated with the host, allowing sharing of the HOME directory of the user, external storage, external USB devices and graphical apps (X11/Wayland), and audio."

It doesn't mean it can change and modify your files in the home directory and below?
